Home diagnostics tool

Hello all,
I am looking to purchase a diagnostics tool so that I can go into my computer and view error codes and such. I've seen on tv (Trucks) that there is some kind of tool available that will allow me to read error codes and adjust some of the computer's settings like raising the speed limiter, and getting gains in hp. Now this was for a diesel truck, so I am wondering if there is something similar for the LS. I would just like to have this so that I don't have to go to the dealer and pay $80 bucks to have them tell me that something simple is wrong. Does anyone out there know where I could find such a product?

Thanks

I use ScanTool from AutoEnginuity http://autoenginuity.com/

I purchased the additional "Enhanced interface for Ford "

list of things I can monitor -> http://www.autoenginuity.com/Ford-Sensor-List.html
