BodyByAAS August 4th, 2010, 09:10 AM Just my luck - I move her out of the garage today to see a small puddle (probably 2 tablespoons worth) and a couple drips as I backed up of oil. Under the hood gave off the slight smell of burning oil... Now what :(
Wahhhhhhhhh!!
Im going to take her to Ford for the CC recall, and get an estimate on the Front end, and Oil leak - then see what I can do myself, or have a friend do.
Im thinking it might be best to sell her since I can probably get atleast my 2k back, and maybe some more, then buy a black on black
philly0420 August 4th, 2010, 09:11 AM I would sell it and buy an LS
Green Machine August 4th, 2010, 09:47 AM Everyone has a black one. dare to be different. Green is Good.
all the little things that are wrong with your car are minor things that require a little bit of TLC. you have a Great looking car.
it seems like nothing major is wrong with your Mark.
just my 2 cents worth.
1bad4.6l August 4th, 2010, 09:51 AM It maybe his best option though. Due to the fact most of these repairs are going to be expensive through a mechanic. Cheap if you do them all youself. From his prior posts I think he's not the most mechanically inclined person. Just my 2 cents.

See this is my thought initially - but Minor to everyone else is a hassle to me.. I mean, id love to learn to be handy enough to fix this :q:q:q:q myself.. just dont even know where to begin :(
Id ideally keep the green, and do a black interior since thats what I really want :)

This LOL
Well, Im very smart, and when I mess with stuff I figure it out pretty easily, but Im slightly Intimated by pulling apart a car u know?
Sapperfire August 4th, 2010, 09:56 AM If he takes his time, and has a working brain, and some tools....and thumbs...what can't he learn on here?
Green Machine August 4th, 2010, 10:01 AM rule of thumb #1: never go to a dealer for work unless its a last resort. or a recall...
find a local mechanic at a service station you trust to do some of this work for you. buy quality parts from any place other than the stealership unless OEM parts are the best option. they WILL rape you on prices for labor and parts, and wont even give you any vaseline.
1bad4.6l August 4th, 2010, 10:06 AM Speaking of stealership. My buddy has a 660 raptor and brove the swing arm bolt. It was something like 60 bucks. When I asked if it came with lube at that price? he replied Maybe thats why the original broke I should lube it!:slam I guess it went over his head.
If you have the motivation keep it.
BodyByAAS August 4th, 2010, 10:07 AM If he takes his time, and has a working brain, and some tools....and thumbs...what can't he learn on here?
I got time, a 153 IQ, thumbs... well, I can pick up some tools LOL.
I was going to do an oil change this week along with change the plugs, since the oil although Mileage wise is "young" its def a few years old (sitting in a garage and only driven ocassionally). So I guess instead Ill lift the car up and go hunting with a flashlight - What are the most likely places to leak? Im guessing this happened from bringing it up around 6500 too many times :(
My Great 8 August 4th, 2010, 10:15 AM Why would you bring it up to 6500 RPM even one time? The car has probably been babied by its previous owner and never saw 6500 RPM. It's a stock 13 year old engine. Not a race car. Be nice to it and it should be nice to you.:D
Sapperfire August 4th, 2010, 10:15 AM Front main seal and the majorly common one is the oil/coolant gasket behind the power steering pump...use search keyword "Sapperfires" and you'll see a pic in there of the gasket, it's kinda a pain to get to for a beginner, but it's all just angles of wrench and size of bolts
1bad4.6l August 4th, 2010, 10:17 AM The oil filter adapter gasket. The pan, the rear main. If it's the oil filter adapter prepare to learn new dirty words. ;)
Daviddc114 August 4th, 2010, 10:20 AM I would sell it and buy an LS
BOOO!!!
Marks are only about a million times sexier than an LS!!!

Yeah... Kinda retarded... Was used to driving a 5.0 so I expected it to shift when I wanted it to.. not have it stop, put down its coffee, then shift :(

The drip does look like its more towards the front of the engine rather then the back
Im guessing you mean this?

1bad4.6l August 4th, 2010, 10:36 AM Also a cheap alternative is that it could be the pressure switch in that same area. If you do the gasket do the switch at the same time and get the fomoco on not the cheapy.

If someone can snag some hi-res pics like Sapperfire had of the places I should be checking that would kick A**!!!
I am still going to bring it in Saturday for the recall and inspection - hopefully they tell me exactly whats wrong and I can handle it myself.
LaserSVT August 4th, 2010, 03:36 PM You may or may not have an oil leak but you definatly have a power steering leak. Teflon bushing is prolly shot. Man that car is nasty grimey under neath. :(
Markviiiedrea August 4th, 2010, 04:01 PM Oil filter Adapter is an easy job, if you can change the oil and have a few extensions you can do it yourself. Fly me down there, I'll do it for free! :-D
Dont sell it unless it's a lemon. Those are all problems your going to see on every mark (eventually) just do it your self and know that it wont have to be done again for a vary long time.

Yeah, true - just need to figure out the HOW.. I got the "will", but lost on the "way"

Hahah No, 4.6 said it was something near the oil filter and to check sapps for a photo - so I asked if this was it - so when I get under there I have a clue.
Question, how the FUGG am I supposed to do any of this without a car lift!??!?!
NoLimit95 August 4th, 2010, 04:32 PM I'd spray the grime away and then keep a check on it and see exactly where it's coming from but it sorta looks like the oil filter adapter gasket needs to be changed and then again, it does look kinda like PS fluid. Wash it off under there and inspect every few hours until you find it.
That offer up above is a good one. He might even swap the wheels for you too.

Floor jack!
Green Machine August 4th, 2010, 04:34 PM jack stands. a good floor jack helps a lot too. get a stump or cinder blocks for safety. dont forget to shut off your air ride switch.

BAD97LSC August 4th, 2010, 05:47 PM i'll trade you my 93 for it, all my 93 needs to be 100% roadworthy is a fuel pump, the car still runs and drives fine my wife drives it everyday, but when it gets down to a 1/4 tank or less it will randomly stall, it fires right back up everytime, fuel pressure test showed when it does this pressure drops to zero. i think the pump has been messed with previously and either the wrong one is in it, or it wasnt put back in correctly, but the car is driven daily, runs awesome, shifts awesome, coil spring converted, cold ac, hot heat, silver with black interior, entire front suspension is brand new, so are the brake rotors and pads front and rear, new rear shocks, brand new steering rack, chrome 10 spokes, newer tires, true lsc dual exhaust.

That's a great offer Jamie but I love the 2nd gens.
As for my leak - I came out after work and saw the new drips - there are 6 or 7 of them all arranged in like a clock circle position -
I'm guessing the seal around the oil pan went :(
kingairpilot August 4th, 2010, 07:57 PM Jamie,
how much for your mk?
1bad4.6l August 4th, 2010, 08:03 PM It very well could be the pan but you need to determine for sure first. Go to the carwash and degrease it then start it and lay there with a flashlight till you see the exact location of leak. Just because it's a circle doesn't mean pan When you're driving and it's leaking it's blowing back and getting on everthing then you stop and it drips. Make sense. Find the exact location before you give up on it it could be a 13 dollar oil pressure switch.
DieselDan August 4th, 2010, 08:18 PM Quit speculating and wasting time, just go out there and put your eye balls on it and see where its leaking from!

Im dropping her off at Ford on Sat. for the recall - hopefully they do a full inspection and figure out my power drain, squeeky front end, and my oil leak.. then when they hand me an insane bill, I get to know how much i saved by buying a ratchet set at wal-mart and watching youtube repair videos :)
(I know a ton of you just put your face in your hand and shook when you read the ratchet comment... LOL)
DieselDan August 5th, 2010, 01:36 PM well, you atleast got the correct tool in mind, some people think you loosen bolts with a home demo tool... :D

Ripped Camel?? LOLOL
BodyByAAS August 6th, 2010, 09:33 AM so im bringing her tomorrow to the dealership for an estimate of what she needs overall - but I did manage to spot where the leak is coming from (I think)
There is some oil on the front end, right under the oil filter..
My guess is, when I nailed one of these fugging divider things on the highway, it came back up and hit the filter, and ruined the seal, or some assembly in that area. Other then that the rest was clear.. Now a leak here didnt explain how oil got all over the place and dripped in a circle, but its all I could find
2002WRXSTi August 6th, 2010, 10:10 AM My 98 just started leaving small spots on my driveway. So I'm interested to see what they diagnose your car with?
Oh and my cooler filter gasket wet the bed at my work so I had to replace it there. Took 2 and a half hours but that was also on a lift so ;)

Ya I was gonna pick up a ratchet set and wrenchs, but so much argument over what is good and what isnt..
I mean, they are forged steel - how much can they differ??!?

ripped camel August 6th, 2010, 01:21 PM Jamie's car is real nice. I've seen it in person.
As for the leak it looks very similar to one I had. It was my power steering pump. It cost me $79 for the part and $150 for the installation from a mustang shop in the area. Be prepared to pay closer to $200 in Miami for the install. You'll be out about $300 for the whole thing.
You may need other gaskets done as well. My car needed oil filter gasket adapter, oil pan, both valve covers and the steering pump and hose done to fix the leaking issues.
Honestly Jamie's car would be an excellent option for you because he is meticulous with his cars as others will chime in to agree. 93's are also the fastest of all the marks so that's another plus. The color on his car is rare, or at least is to me as I haven't seen that color much on 93's. Definitely a good buy!

The black interior is appealing tho!! Maybe I can get him to work a deal on his black LSC.. that thing makes me drool :)

Yeah he'd probably want your car and an additional $5k for his car ;)
Sapperfire August 6th, 2010, 06:03 PM Near your oil filter or under it, I'm gonna say Oil/Coolant thingy gasket..it's under the oil filter ( and by under I mean, between the filter and the block) tucked up behind the PS pump, not terrible to do yourself..
When going to a shop for help, please keep in mind that most techs get paid by "flag hour" meaning when/if he/she fixes or diags your car then they get paid...so if there's no charge, and there's good info resulting from eyes-on, tips are nice! I only say this because, I'm a tech and I have to do "free visual inspections" in the heat, for $7.75 an hour...nobody tips anymore and it's just plain mean to make folks find problems for free
so before this turns into a rant...
Make sure you can find some freshly leaked fluid..after above stated cleaning has been done..degreaser and some high pressure wash, then you'll be able to see the area better, and the color of fluid will be a bigger give-away
as Ripped said he had a ps leak, but you said oil...
Which is it, red or black?
Daviddc114 August 6th, 2010, 06:35 PM Dude - I want that pay phone!!! is it hooked up like a house phone? LOL
yea, i got them from a job i did, i got about 10 of them, but i only got 2 of them working so far, one is just rewired to work as a regular phone, and 1 i actually got fully working, asks for money and all!! i put that near the pool so the guests have to drop a quarter for a call :D
ripped camel August 6th, 2010, 08:28 PM Yea ps fluid is red, oil is black however grime mixed with ps fluid will look black. Jamie completely degreased and cleaned my entire engine by hand and whole front end underside. The whole front end was spotless. The PS leak made the engine look caked up with black crap again just like your picture. So looks can be deceiving. The only telltale sign is the color of the drops on the ground, not the color of the stuff on the actual engine.
