k9t8m July 22nd, 2010, 08:38 PM just buy a drillpress and drill them youself. I be you can get rotors from a junkyard tbird or something to practice on.

Dmaup July 22nd, 2010, 09:17 PM Cool setup he has and its much cheaper than buying new hubs...

driller July 23rd, 2010, 07:57 PM DON'T DO IT!
I have a pair that I got 2 years ago and they do not work! They aren't off by much but they are off enough the wheel/rotor does not fit properly!
Thanks for the link, I had forgotten all about contacting him for a refund. I doubt I'll get it but you never know.

Thats why I'm afraid to do them myself....If your off at all youll have fitment issues and even a wobble going down the road..

Luckily DLF had a spare pair of cobra hubs and the new bearings swapped over without a hitch.

If that's the same guy that did Driller's hubs, he hasn't a clue what he's doing, they weren't even close enough that you could put a Cobra rotor on the hub.
Not to mention that he doesn't even know how to properly press hubs into the knuckles.

I wasn't endorsing the guy, just passing the info. I prefer cobra hubs all along anyway.
What did he do wrong on the hub press ? Care to share ?
kustomizingkid July 23rd, 2010, 09:46 PM Just spned the money and get the right stuff!

The correct way to press in the hubs is to support the inner bearing race during the press.
The incorrect way is to just support the knuckle. The result is that the hub doesn't get pressed in all the way, it's sloppy, and it leads to bearing and/or hub failure.
When I got my hands on Driller's knuckles and hubs, there was a bunch of slop, I could actually wiggle the hub in the knuckle.
94m5 July 23rd, 2010, 10:48 PM Hey John,
If you would, get ahold of the guy an see what he has to say about messing them up, and what he will do about it. Let me know, because that will be one my deciding factors.
I am currently looking for a set of Used oem cobra hubs, but they can be difficult to find. I know I can go through max, but at over 300 bucks it's kinda offputting.

I need to check my records before I go after him, but I'm 99.9% confident it's the same guy 'cause the site looks familiar.
I'll let you know what I find out. I have a road trip this weekend but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
mrzeee July 26th, 2010, 02:19 PM Stu Spencer used to do them, now he buys the cobra hubs and brg from me. he can drill them for you if you want. 360-212-5292 or 360-883-2265 he is in washington state

The link posted earlier is to Stu's web site.....
driller July 26th, 2010, 08:00 PM And from what I can find out, Stu is not where I got mine from.

Thank God. He seemed pretty legit about the whole deal from the cobra kit car forums.

So now that Stu's reputation is restored, who do we avoid?
94m5 July 26th, 2010, 09:53 PM Awesome. This just may be the cheapest hub swap I have done to date. Now, I just need to find them darn centric rings for the rotors.
Icarus July 26th, 2010, 10:02 PM fast Ed (http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.php?t=37231) makes rings and sells the hubs if your interested.

He's been out of Cobra hubs for quite a while now.
98lincmk7lsc July 26th, 2010, 10:13 PM I think I got the last set of his hubs for $150. I think they're more expensive now.
Anyway, does anyone have the specs for the hub-centric rings? I'm pretty sure I can have them made cheap at work...
Icarus July 26th, 2010, 10:22 PM oh, that sucks. I'd double check with him and get the rings at least?

I emailed him and was told he made six sets and all were fine (but mine) but he doesn't make them anymore?
Ebay seller name was rrr46pwr. BTW he had a 100% feedback rating with over 1000 transactions at the time.
We're "negotiating".

Good grief, just buy some damn rotors. :p
94m5 July 27th, 2010, 12:27 AM Cobra rotors aren't the problem. I need the centric rings to center the Cobra rotor AND the mustang wheels on the redrilled hubs. Won't need them for the front, because I'm going with timken taper-roller bearing unit hubs in the front for a mustang.
FASTLLS July 27th, 2010, 12:40 AM Anyone care to share a better place to do redrilling?
mrzeee July 27th, 2010, 08:31 AM new ford racing hubs are 132.00 each LVC cost and then you still need the brgs for another 30.00 each. so the drilling and postage to Stu might be the less expensive way to go.
DLF I did not know that Stu had a site I always talked with him on the phone, thanks for the info for my files!!

This is why you just need to bite the bullet and use the Cobra parts.
If you're going to do it, then do it right.
94m5 July 27th, 2010, 10:23 AM Thanks but no thanks.
I'm not a standard newbie that doesn't know what he is doing. I'll weigh the options and buy accordingly. Thanks for the information John and Jeremi. This topic can now be closed.
