Locked My Keys In My Car!!

I can't believe I did that. I locked the key in the 93 while I was working on the radio. I hit the lock button, got out to get a screwdriver and the door closed. Any ideas I can try before I give up and call a locksmith?:mad:

This myth came about when cell phones first came out. The old bag phones used to transmit up to 5 watts of power and were analog. That much power near a reciever can overload it and cause a spurious response by the rke module. In theory, with an analog transmitting and receiving phone, it might maybe somewhat kinda work. Now days, 99% of cell phones put out 0.01 watt or less and are of course digital.

Pop the window and replace it with the one from the parts car....beats the $60+ for a locksmith.

If you have a spare 1/4 glass, pop that one....that glass is so stupid easy to replace...you don't have to cut anything..once inside remove rear trim, remove several nuts from edge of glass, push old glass out, there's a very thin strip of tar, but it's not very adhesive

seriously break a window, you guys are fackin idiots!!!!!!

STOP....think, get a wedge of some sort...plastic something that is not gonna scratch paint...slide it into the door jam wedge top of window frame open, take a clothes hanger, or i prefer 1/4" steel tube IE: brake line, and go fishing...feed it in there and hit the door lock button...i do tons of lock outs this way...$60 for my trouble no more then a minute or 2 on site to get the vehicle unlocked

I will give that a try. I had a slim jim in my tool box, don't know how I got it, but I am clearly lacking in Grand Theft Auto skills. I have no idea what to do with that thing.

I saw on the Power Block the other weekend that Matco Tools has just the thing for this. It is an air bag that you slide in between the door and the jam and there is a small pump as in a bulb like a blood pressure cuff, just pump it up by hand and you can put in as much pressure as you want and slide that brake line in no muss no fuss no scratches!!

I thought it was a pretty neat idea and why someone had not come up with it before now.

I locked myself out of Whiner one day, and called the lock smith to come and get me into the car. They opened the trunk for me so that I could get the code off the door lock receiver, and made me a set of spare keys to keep in my wallet. Cheaper than a window.

The code consists of 5 digits. Each can be 1/2 or 3/4 or 5/6 or 7/8 or 9/0, this means 5 variants only. There are only 625 variants vailable, but you must not try 11111, 33333 etc. It takes only an hour to "hijack" the code...

fossten
July 9th, 2010, 01:52 PM
GMAN,

It's written on a sticker on the underside of your trunk lid.

Also, you can reprogram a new code. It won't delete the old code, but it will give you an opportunity to put in a code that you might remember better.

I often times lock my keys in my car... hidden in a super secret place of course

though I once left my parking lights on at the airport and had to have someone drive my spare keys 30 miles to my location :(

the code should be on the passenger side (RIGHT) tRUNK lid arm. you can also reprogram and additional personal code one easier to remenber for you. after punching the factory code then if iremenber right you punch 1/2 within 5 seconds then enter your own number consisting of 5 numbers this will only work if the battery is connected. also read the owners manuel for additional information. also when you wedge open the window don't over do it are you will have to have it realigned. locks keep honest people honest.jd

Put a wire coat hanger down and hit the unlock button. Ford cars are easy like that.

Haha, even Laser and I know each others codes...I've made it a habit to use ONLY the code to get in my car now..even my older kid knows how to unlock and relock the car by the code

I even use my code to pop my trunk, as I keep the button locked incase of a break in

if you have your owners manual, the code is in there as well

I've never has much luck with the coat hangers, if you're gonna fish for the lock button, I recommend a piece of fence runner wire ( that's the long straight one normally on the bottom of chain link fences), it's thin and MUCH stouter than a coat hanger

Guys, I know all the places where the code is. This does me no good however since I am on the outside, this car was not meant to be my primary car but a fix and sell, so I never remembered it.

Is this the one that caught on fire? Is the battery still hooked up? If not, then you'll have to pop a window..those windows are like $10 from salvage yards..it's not a stupid idea if you have no extra key nor power to the locks...

That's neat. I have to carry a spare key in my wallet for the '96 since my keypad quit working - someday I may take the door panel off and see what's wrong with it. Fortunately, the keypad on the '97 LSC works fine. The keypad on the door is one of the best ideas Ford has ever had. It may well be the best idea ever in the automotive industry!:) I'm glad Ford's still using it on most of their vehicles.

i love the keypad. 1 suggestion is to remove all the stickers with the entry code number that were located on the trunk hinge and drivers side door jam(97 fwiw).. i just took both off and put 1 in my wallet and another in another secret place.. ya never know..take your car in for service of any kind and next thing you know your car got "broken" into.

i love how so many kept saying where the code is in the trunk. if the car is locked, and the keys are inside the car, how the :q:q:q:q do you open the door to push the trunk release, and if you manage to push the trunk release, thats means you got the door opened, so you no longer need to even look in the trunk!!! some people i swear just skim over certain posts and read only a few words out of 20. gman what the hell is that around the rear window???????????

a while back i was cleaning my car out with my daughter in it, and i got to the other side of the car to open the door it was locked so i had to walk back around and the wind blew it shut.. luckily i had the sun roof open cuz i panicked and forgot the code so i had to run to the neighbors and get a broom and pop the unlock button throught the top of the sun roof.. but i use the keypad all the time when i go into the store ill leave the car running and lock the doors and use the pad to get back in

The coat hanger trick is hard to do because of the length of the door for one, and the fact that the door and the body are shaped to where they fit each other and keep the weather out... Talk about hard to get ANYTHING in there and still expect to hit your target once you make a zig zag out of a coathanger, lol

I locked my keys in my car once back when my drivers door handle was still broken. Talk about irony when the drivers door is unlocked and you have no way to open it!

I worked in repair shops and dealers for years and that's the first thing that they taught you to do when working on any car-lower the window, no matter what it is you are doing. It's a habit now.

off subject: you tagging along with the kid to wisc this weekend?

I planned on it but things got screwed up.

A group of us plan a yearly fishin trip, last year I missed the fishin trip and this meet because of the remodel of the house.
This year the only time we all could make it was the same as this meet.
So I had to make a choice, I went with the fishin.

Kid was on my ass.

I think loser is the term of endearment.

Reminds me of when I was installing an oil pressure gauge in my TBird. I installed the gauge and started it up, got out to check for leaks. As I'm looking the door closes, and for some reason the car locks, just as I notice it's gushing oil out of a fitting. So I'm locked out of a running car that has about 3 minutes before it spins a bearing due to oil starvation, and I'm standing there waking my neighbors kid up from his nap with my swearing (I got yelled at later for that)...

I did the first thing that came to mind, which was pull a battery cable, which of course didn't stop the engine. Then in a slight panic I painfully yank out 3 plug wires before it quits running...

Ok here is one for you and it is happening right now so any help would be appreciated.

My neighbour who has been living there for less than six months pulls in the driveway last night shuts of his car/truck, a Toyota Rav 4 and the brake lights stay on I figured that part out as I was sitting on my front porch. Well an hour later they are still on. I talk to him and say I don't know much about these new things and based on a Mark8 I know that they have sorts of new :q:q:q:q electrical in these things. Well it is finally decided that I will try to check things out and if I cannot figure it out I will disconnect the battery so it does not kill it so he can get it to the dealer to get it checked. The thing looks to be close to new so it is under warranty.

He decides that his wife can still drop him off at his buddys place and I will check when she gets back. 1/2 hour later she pulls into the drive way and I go about the business of checking. I even try the switch on the pedal, no luck. So id do the last part of the plan and disconnect the battery negative terminal, lights out and lock up all four doors. Good neighbor I am out there at 11:00 trying to fix the car.

This morning I am out on the porch having my coffee and I look over at thier car and it strikes me. There is no key lock on the passenger side so I jump up and run over and look on the drivers side, no lock..WTF!!! I locked all four doors manualy how am I going to get back into this thing to unlatch the hood to hook up the battery terminal again? I still have to check the rear hatch door, as I did not open it and hit a lock button on it I hope it is still open so I can crawl through this POS and unlock the door.

I have never noticed this before and I started looking around at the cars around in the area no freaking locks on the outside of them all electric. How do you get in these things if the battery goes dead after you lock them for the day or night?

Dude, I did this for a co-worker who locked her keys in her car awhile back. She only had one key, so there was no alternative and she didn't want to pay a locksmith. Told her I'd get her in her car. I work at a school so I grabbed one of their wooden door wedge blocks and a piece of stainless filler rod from the welding class.

She drives an Escape, I just pulled out the upper door frame corner and inserted the wedge to hold it, took the filler rod, inserted it to figure out how I needed to bend it, put it back in, pushed the unlock button and was in. Took me less than 5 minutes, you really need something stiffer than a coat hanger, the hanger is usually too flexible to get the job done.

You really need to get more in touch with the MacGyver within you!

LSC HUNTER
July 25th, 2010, 09:15 PM
Yeah that would be great but I had disconnected the battery as the brake lights will not turn off so not power at all.

Good thing though, when I checked for locks this morning I did miis the one and only on the drivers door but I had not locked the rear hatch. Dodged a bullet and all is good now except the brake lights still stay on. Off to the dealer tomorrow morning.

Sometimes, if you're lucky you can get ahold of the handle and pull it to open the door, if the doors work that way, if not, then you're stuck trying to trigger the lock manually or just call a locksmith.
