I'm going to go with the factory amp until she gives out. What's the ideal wire to tap into for the amp turn on?

G, when I bought the black 94, someone had done the same thing to that amp. I had to remove all of that junk out, including the entire amp rack to make room for the system install.

I wanna say that the wire they were using was red or red with a white line on it. It wasn't a blue wire like a normal remote wire would be. It was on the main harness going in the amp and I remember red or red and white. Put a tester on the harness while it's unplugged and see which one comes on with the radio being turned on.

GMAN, are you just trying to replace your factory radio with an aftermarket one? If so, you can purchase an adapter harness for around $15 that is color coded to your aftermarket radio wiring and will plug directly into your factory radio plugs. Dude, if you are using a Pioneer then bypass the amp or it will make horriable sounds when it turns on and off.
If you insist on using it then just get the adapter harness...... not the one with RCAs either unless its a deck with 5v or more RCA output.

I must've gotten lucky then. My Pioneer doesnt make any kinda noises when it turns on or off. I have the JBL system too. I am running the Scosche FAI-3A Gain Adjuster though.

Like said above if you are using the harness you buy at the store(I prefer getting them at Wal-Mart since they are only 8 bucks) just hook up the blue wire to the stereo's blue wire (NOT blue with white tracer). If I remember correctly there are two ground wires that need hooked up too. One for the radio, one for the amp. Just hook them to the same ground.

If I remember correctly there are two ground wires that need hooked up too. One for the radio, one for the amp. Just hook them to the same ground.
Its more their NAV decks that do it due to the LCD screen.

Also you DO NOT hook up the antena wire to the amp remote. You hook the amp turn on to the amp remote. If you hook antenna to it then the amp will shut off when you switch to CD.

Yeah I havent found the need to have a NAV or DVD deck in any of my cars yet so Im just using the normal ol CD Players.

I think G just wants to connect another amp up to the factory amp for power only for maybe a sub. That's how I was reading it but I could have it wrong.

IIRC the factory amp turn on signal is only 5v and wont trigger most after market amps

EDIT, wait, I have added aftermarket amps to them before and ....... actually I may have just used an ignition switched source...... cary on. :D

i tried it with mine, with a big fail checked the voltage it was only five

I got it all figured out. I just installed my X710BT,and I am going to use the factory amp for a little while longer. It was late last night, and I needed some sleep before I finished the job. It sounds great.

Took me 10 minutes to install the remote wire to the ignition wire in the harness that's plugged into the factory head unit...Why mess with the factory amp for remote???
