98LSC32V April 20th, 2010, 03:58 PM So looks like i'm not gonna be able to pass smog even with cats in the facist state of california. So regretably I might be forced to sell my car. I have anywhere between $10 and $15k (I lost track lol) in the car and it's a clean example of a gen 2. If i'm gonna sell it I would like to pass it on to a fellow Mark VIII enthusiast because they will appreciate it. Specs on the car:
1998 Black/Graphite LSC fully loaded with sunroof, heated seats, cd changer
108,000 miles
my ratings of the condition of the vehicle
exterior: 8/10, a few scratchs and small dings normal for a 12 year old car, rear bumper needs to be painted but overall the black paint is in excellent shape. It looks absolutely wicked when clean and sitting on the 19's. The driverside headlight assembly was replaced 2 years ago with one of the last OEM HID headlamp assemblys.
interior: 8/10, normal wear and tear for 12 year old car but overall very good, sunroof works perfectly, driver seat heated seat element doesn't work but I have a oem replacement sitting in the garage, one of the last in the country. The blend door needs to be fixed.
mechanically: tranny works perfectly, engine compression is good and even on all cylinders, no leaks of any kind. Traps 97mph on motor and 106-108mph on spray.
Suspension: in good shape no rust, under carriage perfect, slow leak in front air struts (front drops after a few days), new rear shocks.
The car has been garaged for the last 5 years. Modifications are in my sig.
This is a turn key low 14 second car, low 13 second car on spray, it will easily do 12's with traction. It is truly a pleasure to drive.

lincolnboy April 20th, 2010, 04:10 PM Lonnie had the same problem don't know if he moved out of state or fixed the car. He does have one sweet mark Ate.
Icarus April 20th, 2010, 04:25 PM Why won't it pass, especially with cats?
LaserSVT April 20th, 2010, 04:27 PM Is the reason it wont pass because the manifold is from an older year Cobra? Do you have the EGR hooked up? What are you looking to get?
XLRVIII April 20th, 2010, 04:51 PM Lonnie had the same problem don't know if he moved out of state or fixed the car. He does have one sweet mark Ate.
he moved

intake & exhaust
XLRVIII April 20th, 2010, 04:53 PM send me the cobra intake and i'll send you my stocker
its the least i can do
zmt325 April 20th, 2010, 04:57 PM move dude move or just regester it with a trusted friend out of state. i would kill for your car. if i was close i would offer up my address. just get your cell phone bill sent to an out of state address. (for proof of residence) get an out of state licence and register it there. and fuk em bet wheel taxes are cheaper out of state to.
98LSC32V April 20th, 2010, 04:59 PM It has no egr and imrcs. I have a tune for this but with the tune in place it stores a p1000 code emission test not ready, if I put the tune back to stock cel will come on so either way it will fail. Also technically the cobra manifold is not legal by itself because you have to use parts from same make model and year in ca but I can get past this part because I know a guy who will overlook the visual...
98LSC32V April 20th, 2010, 05:02 PM send me the cobra intake and i'll send you my stocker
its the least i can do
I have the full cobra fuel rail system and different fuel lines it's not an easy swap
Icarus April 20th, 2010, 05:54 PM If you put some kind of more proper intake tube from the mass air sensor foward back to the stock fender hole, you can't bs them for the intake and say you just polished it or something?
Do they have pictures as to how it's supposed to look, take it to a different test shop maybe?

The intake tube is fine, it's got a Carb number, read my post above...
kustomizingkid April 20th, 2010, 06:21 PM Hahahahahahaha.... what were you expecting??
Icarus April 20th, 2010, 06:23 PM Ah, sorry, I read what XLR said and missed what you did.
I thought the OBD2 stuff could be deleted/changed without issue in the tune, unlike the OBD1 which gives you a code 511(?I think it is) Check with your tuner and see maybe?

It certainly can with SCT, but who knows with Sniper....
kustomizingkid April 20th, 2010, 06:53 PM I'm tuned and have no stored P1000.... just checked with my xcal...
I'll trade you my CE for your car and that fancy TC you have.
BAD97LSC April 20th, 2010, 07:12 PM either move out of that state and keep the car, or load the stock program back in the car and remove the check engine light bulb and see what happens. i worked in an inspection station for years, they used to use one of their personal cars for the emmisions test to get our buddies to pass!! i know its not legal but w.g.a.f!!!! i had a truck years ago that was so street illegal in many ways and i used to give my buddy a $50 dollar bill for his pocket and got stickers anytime i needed one!!!

Don't listen to jamie. He CRAZY. My buddy told me he had a gun pulled in his face by swat team raided the shop he works at cause of a bad inspection sticker.

You also don't have EGR disabled in your tune. How many miles on your CE?
shiryu0 April 20th, 2010, 08:00 PM my coworker just brought his parents '00 F150 from New Mexico, had like 5 codes and needs a cat........got it "smogged" for $150.............then again were out in the middle of nowhere...................... :D
Screw-Rice April 20th, 2010, 08:19 PM I have a black 2nd gen LSC with same options, and similar mileage (113k). We could trade, and I am closer than Kid. All I have done so far is 4.10, T-lok, and a tune. :D
Edit: Hell I even have a nitrous kit you can have too that has been sitting in my garage.
Double edit. :q:q:q:q man we should trade.
My fornt bags have a leak, my blend door needs replace, and only the back portion of my driver seat heat element works. It would be damn near swapping for the same identical car...but mine will pass tech.

hahahahahahahaha your buddy sounds like he is full of :q:q:q:q. I think the swat team has better things to do than to worry about a sticker lmao. That was one of the best laughs I have had all day.
98LSC, what's the asking price? I might fly again for a Gen II like that.

What kind of tune do you have? If it's SCT do you have the Xcal2? I might consider this, although i'm not sure how to do an out of state trade...
ground_zero298 April 20th, 2010, 10:26 PM Hell, I'll register it in Michigan and send you a plate for it. Or if you want I'll just report my plate stolen have them send me another with a tag and mail it to you. Instant registered lincoln. Plus your so far away they couldn't run the plate if the wanted to.
My Mexican friend has been driving his truck with texas plates and tags for the last 3 years here, no problems. When he got pulled over they couldn't run the plate.
Screw-Rice April 20th, 2010, 10:27 PM Yeah mine is an Xcal 2 tune, with the tuner. I think you just put a trade on the title, or a really low amount...like $100. When I bought mine, I put that I paid $400 for it, despite paying way more, have done that with every car I have bought in 8 years.

Doubt that will work. Out here if the title isn't in your name, that you cant register or anything for the car. They check everything when you go to get your sticker.

Michigan plate with 2011 tab on it = no stickers, no inspections
When I was stationed in Texas I bought a truck and registered it in michigan to skip all that bs inspection and window sticker. Never got pulled over once, plus window tint laws no longer apply to you. :)
Just a idea like was mentioned before, go out of state, get a po box, say you just moved their, register your car.
Screw-Rice April 20th, 2010, 10:44 PM Oh, gotcha, was a little backwards on what I thought you meant. Just glad my area doesn't even bother with smog anymore. Even though everything is still intact, but nice to know if I decide to start an assault on the environment here, I wont have any speed bumps.
DLF April 20th, 2010, 10:49 PM If you can get past the visual, then I don't see why you just don't get a better tuner.
I've got both EGR off and IMRC deletes in my Cobra, and I've passed NJ inspections for years, which plug into the OBDII port also.
I can double-check on my LSC tomorrow by turning off both the EGR and IMRC's if you'd like.
98LSC32V April 20th, 2010, 11:32 PM This is what Sniper tells me when I asked if SCT can disable the P1000 code...
"The SCT tuners, like most scan tools including Recon, can clear the P1000 code however it will show up again as soon as the PCM realises that the various readiness tests have not been completed. This can take 5 minutes to 5 days depending on where and how you drive.
With Delta Force/Commando you can disable the tests, which may disable the throwing of the P1000 DTC, I don't know--however AFAIK that does not cause the OBD2 readiness (test complete) checks via PID 0101 to be set; it is likely (though it varies from state to state) this generic PID that is being tested to see if all tests have been completed."
I have cleared the P1000 code with the Sniper and it does come back right away. I don't have the delta force/commando so I can't disable the tests...

I'm not talking about clearing the code, I'm talking about telling the PCM that EGR and IMRC's are not installed. Therefore, they are not tested, and subsequently, cannot fail.
Looks like you have some choices:
Upgrade your tuner so you can really disable the EGR and IMRC. :shifty:
Switch to a SCT Pro-Racer Package. :D
Move. :(
Sell the car.
98LSC32V April 20th, 2010, 11:54 PM Please check tomorrow if you have time on your Mark VIII if you get the P1000 code when removing egr and imrcs. The IMRC's and EGR are removed from my tune... I don't just clear IMRC and EGR CEL codes... i'm still a little confused about this myself...
Screw-Rice April 20th, 2010, 11:56 PM DLF is usually right on the money about this stuff, so hopefully it works out.

As I said earlier, I've run a tune without EGR and IMRC's for years now on my Cobra, but I'd be happy to do the same on my LSC tomorrow and I'll let you know the results.
I've already created a test tune file to do this. ;)
98LSC32V April 21st, 2010, 12:09 AM Sniper says,
"You will get the P1000 code until all OBD2 tests (including EGR) are completed successfully, with EGR disabled in the tune the EGR readiness flag will never be set = P1000 = fail..."
maybe some states allow you to have the p1000 code as it does not set off the CEL...

Well, I've been doing some research also, and that may very well be true.
I see a flag in my Cobra tune file to disable the readiness test, but not in my LSC file.
I'll run some tests tomorrow, and we'll see.
kustomizingkid April 21st, 2010, 02:02 AM If you have the calibrator version of the software you get those options and more...
My CE has 111k on it.

Trade him stacks car :D

Well, unfortunately, I was wrong. :(
After loading the tune disabling the EGR, and driving the car a bit, I still have the P1000 DTC.
If you want to keep the car, consider installing the EGR. Since you already have the Cobra fuel rail, it shouldn't be that hard.
I haven't done it yet, but I will in the next couple of weeks, as I change over to a Cobra intake on my LSC.
Sorry to get your hopes up.
