NoLimit95 Black Interior Swap Progress

NoLimit95
April 14th, 2010, 04:42 PM
I'm not done yet with everything but I have a good start and not much left to do. I'm not mind set yet on a two tone or exactly how I want it but I'm good with how it is right now.

I have a black console that's in excellent shape but it's from the 94 and some people may not know this but 94 consoles do not fit in 95's. I tried and tried to make it work and even had to cut the plug off the 95 console to splice onto the 94 because the plugs were both female plugs but either way, the 94 console doesn't go all the way up and meet the 95 dash like I thought it would.

I kinda like the graphite console and it's in just as good of shape as the black one I have, if not better......and it fits lol. I have some pics below that show where I stand right now on the interior. Not sure where I'm going with it next but I have every piece that I need to do a complete swap to black but I doubt I'll go that far with it.

I'm sure I can have them packed up tonight and off to you tomorrow Bill. I'll go out in the garage in just a little bit and round them up from the pile. I guess I need to make sure I have both of them complete but I don't remember anything missing from them. I'll get back to you before the night is out and let you know for sure. I still have your address on file also.

I asked you after you said that last time. You said you would look cause you were sure you had a box full of them and then get back to me..... sometime around when you were supposed to send me the cross brace...... and license plate light. Then you got all pissy and said you were busy and something about my mother and a donkey...... :p

Terry, yeah thats what I needed. Like the license plate light you came through for me again. Should show Jamie how you do that. :D

Dan, I have two steering wheels, a console but it's for 93 and 94 only and rear side panels from the black 93. I really don't know what all I have or will have left but I can keep you updated as I go. I'm not going to put it off because I want to be done before the 90's start rolling through. Right now I'm dealing with high 70's and low 80's.

Black door panels by chance?

Black door panels by chance?

I have four of those but one of them (drivers side) has some singed carpet on the bottom of it from the fire when I blew up the 94. You can't see it unless you're looking for it but you can feel it. Has a rough feel to it and I am pretty sure I'm swapping door panels out because they are still making it too grey inside.

I'm thinking about just having the dash as is and the console to blend in with the dash and maybe adding some two tone to the dash, like vents and the front upper piece next to the windshield. I only have one of those because the one in the 94 melted a little.

billcu

That looks great!

I did a similar thing to my 94 Green Mark VIII with Opal Grey interior. It's already got a half black dash and strips on the door and quarter trim from the factory.

I don't have the rear quarter trim peices, but I do have a black console.

I thought the black console would look bad connected to the grey dash, so I just used the small black peices of carpet from the console, and put them on the grey console.

Bill, you just gave me an idea I never thought about with the console carpet. Looks like I have a project for tomorrow. I also like the way the center of the dash is blacked out. I think I have two consoles. I'll have to go up in the attic and check for the 2nd one. I do like the console look though. I will do that tomorrow and maybe use some black pieces for the door panels to help start the blend going into the dash or swap out panels and use some grey parts to blend into. Console carpet is happening for sure. Thanks for showing me that.

billcu
April 15th, 2010, 05:11 AM
Thanks, I'm glad you like the idea.

The carpet comes off easily, it's held on with soft sticky glue. Just start by pulling it back a little and cut the glue with a razor blade as you pull the carpet.

It's still sticky, so I didn't even need to add anymore glue, it sticks to itself again.

Ya, you won't have to apply new glue, just stick the new stuff on.

Well, I got the console carpet swapped over from the other console I had in black. Thanks to billcu, it made a big difference IMO. You were right, it don't need any additional glue. The black stuck right on there with no problem and doesn't even act like it wants to come back off unless pulled off. I took some pics of course. ;)

I'll get the door panels done tomorrow morning. I had too much other stuff going on this evening to get involved with them. I'm most likely going to go with a black wheel. I did get the upper dash piece swapped out too out of the 93. It was in mint condition and went right in the 95 without a problem. I put in black vents too just to get an idea for now.

Personally, out of all of the swaps I've seen, you struck Black Gold!! That looks GREAT!!! I noticed you didn't put a black center console lid on it. I think it looks odd when people put a different color lid on, It just doesn't look right. That's just my opinion though, Again nice job!!!

PS I think the vents could go either way, the Black looks good though.

DieselDan

Its too bad that they way that the dash flows from dash to door panels. If you put in the black door panels, it wont match the dash. But if you leave it the way it is, the door panels don't match the quarter trim. I think it looks awesome as is, but I guess it all will all be black in the end. I think it would look funny black door panels mated to a white dash...

NoLimit95
April 16th, 2010, 06:58 AM
I might have to two tone the door panels. Maybe change the carpet on the bottom so that it's black or put the black ones in and add some grey pieces. I'll have to play with it today and just see what looks best. Either way, the panels have to come off for modifications for the door speakers.

The strip across the front of the dash is also being changed out to the darker charcoal grey, which matches the strip on the black door panels and rear quarters. Air bag has to be changed too. Luckily I have the one I need in my closet.

I'm going to figure out something. I thought about going with the black panels and adding grey speaker grilles and switches and door handle cup. Either way, I'm down to the simple stuff now, I just need to figure out what I want to go with. Decisions decisions lol

If I had more black and grey picture ideas, it would help.

Sorry to hijack Terry, I dont like it because the dash only matches when the door panels are covered in that greasy armor-all stuff. On top of that when my wife was driving it i would sit on the passanger side and my knees rubbed off the dye next to the door and radio. Its held up well but i want all the black in my car to be one shade of black.

I know, if it was a double DIN id be there tomorrow. I had a black 94 dash and console from the first Mark 8 i parted out (i got everything in black but the back seat from it) and decided then i didnt like the look of it. I tryed to give it away but no one wanted it to it went in the trash!!

NoLimit95
April 16th, 2010, 10:09 PM
Anyway, I'm starting to feel the two tone look. I didn't have time today to mess with it but tomorrow I'll see what I can do to make up a good blend into the dash. I'm not about to pull out two dashes and install one. It's just not worth it to me and I don't mind the single din because I have an adapter for a single din stereo. I have the same Kenwood eXcelon that Jamie has but it's been in the trunk now for months.

I guess I like it because it's different and not what everyone else has, if that makes sense and to me, it looks good but better in person.

It's kinda hard to go wrong when you're dealing with grey and black but I just have to figure out the right blend from the rear and into the door panel and then into the dash. Maybe the rear panels need only the grey speaker grilles in and then black door panels with grey switches and grilles.

I think that looks great!:)

I've been gradually changing my interior, first the seats, then the shifter (the original was grey with a black button) then the carpet, console carpet and the package tray.

My black winter car has a great interior that I can get the rest of the parts from if I want. They are too nice to be in a winter car anyway.

I've still got the grey rear quarter trim and door pads on the green car, as well as the dash and headliner.

Some people might not like the way the grey rear quarters look, but I like it for now.
I'll try to get a photo of the back seat tomorrow.

Yes, the quarter trim is a bit of a pain to change, but those center rear seat belts are a real pane in the glass.:)

I took a photo but the flash makes the grey look lighter than it really is. Opal grey is really much darker than graphite. It might actually look closer to graphite in my photos (including my front seat photo).

Laser, too bad you don't live in Michigan, I've got a black gen 2 Dash, doorpads, quarter trim, headliner, and rear seats, in my spare room (for sale but they are not mine).

Here's my back seat:

I'm going to try one and see how it looks chicken. KC96LSC also liked the idea too but I'm going to try a black door panel with grey grilles and grey window switches but leave the door lock switches black. I just don't want to go too far with grey additions to the black panel. The rear panels are staying black. I might swap out grilles in the back but that's it.

I still haven't messed with this anymore yet. I'm in the middle of another Mark VIII buy and I'm getting it tomorrow at 1:00 during the lady's lunch break lol. 96 LSC with lite graphite interior. Has mint chrome 10 spokes on it and I mean no curb rash at all and no pitting anywhere. Pics of it tomorrow with a real camera. The car is whatever that red color is, hell, idk. Interior needs a little help but luckily I just pulled that color out of the 95.

Other than that, the car looks damn good. Always been in Alabama too and we don't have salt here. $2200.00 cash, I had to get it. Has 160K on the clock though but it has been taken care of.

I backed out of that sale today. I found another LSC but this one is a 95 and is the same color as my current 95. It also only has right at 68K on the clock. Going to see if I can make this sale happen tomorrow or hopefully this week. If not, I am on the hunt for any Gen LSC but I only want black or white and I don't want a POS. If it's 6K, then ok but it needs to be worth 6K. Looking to stay in the 4K to 5K range and the 95 I'm looking at tomorrow is around $3500 but I think I can get it lowered. He was asking 4K for it and I got him to $3500 over the phone.

Hey NOLIMIT... I love the new look man! I know you've wanted this or a while & you finally achieved it. Especially since this isn't just another black interior. It's THE black interior!

Yes, it's "The Black" interior. I have always loved my seats and the condition they are in compared to most I have seen. They aren't new but I would rate my seats 8.5 out of 10.

After I go and swap my insurance over to a local State Farm agency tomorrow, I'm most likely going to get on the door panels and get that done. I have a system I really need to get off my ass and put in. The stereo is NIB and in my trunk lol and I haven't even taken it out of the box to be honest. Jamie has the same head unit but he's already put his in and says it matches the dash / interior lighting to a tee. Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X993

I still have the three 10" sub box setting in my room with new 10's in it, ready to go in and my amps are in my room boxed up still.

But you're right, I do like black on black better but my 2nd choice has always been white on black and I'm slowly getting it there but with a reminder of what I once had lol. So really, I'll always have my 94 with me or should I say, I'll be setting on it.....

The 98 transmission is being pulled from the 94 this week or next and then that car is being hauled away from here for good. I have taken all I need off of it.

No, not yet. I drove all the way to Carrollton, GA. or w/e it is and looked at another Mark. He wanted 3400.00 but i got him down to 2900.00and I still left there without it. The air didn't work and yes, I could have fixed it but don't make me drive nearly 4 hours and tell me everything works fine and looks good inside.

The only good thing i can say about it is that the headlight housings looked less than a year old and it had good tires on it. Had a big ass cone filter by K&N without a heat shield. 154K on the clock and over spray on the paint. I learned a big lesson from this.

Driving home tonight, I had more bugs plastered to the front but got them washed off by high pressure before I came home. I'll look for a car later when someone has something worth looking at. It's stereo time now and I'll get to the door panels during that process. Doing rear shocks tomorrow too.
