BAD97LSC April 11th, 2010, 08:22 PM well, not really, just made my sub box. it isnt finished, its built, glued and screwed, sub holes not cut yet, and the carpet isnt on, but its done as far as building it. what i did is built it a hair bigger than minimum air space needed, it is sealed not ported, its 36" L x 13" H x 12" D with a divider smack dead in the center. its all 3/4 MDF that i pre-assembled with my pnuematic brad gun then went back and drilled and counter sunk coarse drywall screws. normally i make these fast and sloppy but i took my time and the box came out mint, all my cuts are dead straight, the joints are all tight as hell and i sealed the inside up with ALEX clear latex silicone caulk. the front panel is 1/4 inch MDF and will be covered in carpet, i have carpet to match the trunk carpet, the front panel is just a filler so i dont have an ugly basic box in the trunk, the filler is cut to fit the contour of the trunk inside, see pics, only the face of the box will be covered in carpet where the subs mount, then the filler panel will be covered in it too, and will attach to the front of the box with velcro strips, so it can be removed if need be. i still have to carpet it and cut the holes for the subs and wire the inside, i'll do that this week, i just did this today in between restoring more headlights. i am in no rush to get the system in the car so i am taking my time, i have everything to do it, i just need power and ground wire to finish the list, but i can get that anytime.
here are some pics.

GMAN April 11th, 2010, 08:53 PM Very nice man. The new sound will be well worth it. Where do you plan on mounting the amp?
BAD97LSC April 11th, 2010, 08:56 PM i'm not going into too much detail about my amp location until its done, but put it this way, the spare tire will never fit my car again with the cobra brakes, so hmmmmmmmm, wasted space?? you'll see!!

Can't you use a mustang cobra donut? That was what I was planning on doing until I read your post.
KC96LSC April 11th, 2010, 09:35 PM You will love those component infinity's. That's what I have in the front. They sound very clean and crisp! enjoy!!

no because i have a mark VIII bolt pattern!
BAD97LSC April 11th, 2010, 09:42 PM i love infinity's they crank
LaserSVT April 11th, 2010, 09:43 PM The Infinity Kappas are going up front right? Nice setup and great job on the box.
I dont have the tools or the willingness to do something like that so I figured in a couple months I was just going to have a fibreglass box made for mine also covered in factory carpet.
Looks like you will have a clean sounding setup.
BAD97LSC April 11th, 2010, 09:46 PM bill i bought two pairs of infinity components, i will have then in the doors and the rear quarters. the mids will go in the door in stock location, and the tweeters will go in the stock location also, in the rear the mids and tweets are going where the stock ones are as well. the plastic 6x8 plates you see in the pic, the black ones, are just to change from stock 6x8 speakers to my now round 6 1/2 mids.
i am gonna put the subs and carpet in the trunk tonight before i go to bed, and maybe if i am in the mood after work tomorrow i will cut the holes, mount the subs and carpet it so its done, wait till its finished and sitting in there it will look 1000 X better then it does raw wood. i need 2 full days alone so i can install everything, i am running it all like a factory harness, so the whole intereior is coming out minus the dash, so i need an entire weekend, which i cant see in the near future!!!

Yeah, I see two pairs but isnt one set Kappas and the other Refrence?
BAD97LSC April 11th, 2010, 10:06 PM nope they are both refference, one set is used and last years, infinity 6020's and the new ones in the package are 2010 infinity 6030's
LaserSVT April 12th, 2010, 09:17 AM Ah, my bad. Tough to keep up these days. I feel old. :(
I see they gave them a Kappa size voice coil this year..... or just a bigger dust cap.
Fuggin stuff, used to run the same thing for a few years and now its every 6 months a new design comes out.
Id still give my left nut for a mint condition pair of Infinity Beta components and two 8" Beta subs.
KC96LSC April 12th, 2010, 11:37 AM I basically started with a very similar set up. I'll share with you my experience, if any of it helps great, if not, no harm done.
I had 2 sets of the 6020's one in the front and the other in the back seat with no subs. It was all powered by the Rockford P450.4 Punch. I wasn't getting enough bass, so I went and bought a set of Pioneer 6x8 4 ways and put those in the back seat and it made a huge difference, it sounded real good.
Then I decided to hook up the factory JBL door speakers (The ones that are like 2 1/2" in the upper front door) to the mid frequency range on the cross overs and put the tweets on my dash. I was amazed by just hooking up the JBL's, how much fuller < is that a word:confused: the sound was. It definitely helped fill out the sound. Your set up should rock, because when I hooked up the subs last week, I've had to turn the bass down on the rear 6x8's and move the fade +1 to the front.
I've had many $1,000+ systems over my 30 years of driving. I gave one of my close friends, of 30 years, a ride up to NTW Saturday and he was blown away. He has had many nice set ups over the years and admitted it was the best he has EVER heard. I can honestly say this is the best overall set up I've ever had:headbang:
With all that said, I would recommend using the JBL's in the door and putting the tweet on the dash. I wasn't a fan of having the tweeters up there, but the way they bounce off the windshield and having that extra mid coming at ear level made it a very easy decision for me. For the subs, I'm running them with a infinity MRP-M500 Mono. I'm not sure any of this really helps you, but this is what I found was best for me. Everyone hears things differently than anyone else. Bottom line, get that sucker in and get to rock'in:headbang:
whiteshark April 12th, 2010, 02:26 PM I'm still waiting on the mirrored and clear Plexiglass. It will go under the amps and bottles, with the clear over the amps.
LaserSVT April 12th, 2010, 03:12 PM Rockford Power T1? Nice, those things really slam. Did a 12" in my 86 300Z and it way out pounded my friends 13W7 in an identical box.
RedLinCoupe May 18th, 2010, 12:31 PM Oooo, I gotta take some pics of mine. Two kicker CVX 12s, Planet audio BB2400 d class, alpine 5x7s, Boston acoustic 3way components and a Memphis PR4x50.
