A while back I posted a question about climate control, thinking that what it was, I went ahead and order one, got it and put it in and the same result, it turn out not to be the control, now the next step it to get to the blend door -evillally- posted a link to an article. I'm hesitating to take my dash board apart because it look like a lot involve here. Now the question is it really hard to do, watching pictures and reading how to do it and acturely doing is two different things.
Paying $600 just to have air is a little to steep for me, the $600 price range is driving me to go ahead and do it my self even if it take me a week to do it, I red the part on blend door actuator arm reinforcement, what I want to know is what kind of wire to use to on the base of arm.
Is it really a good idea to do it myself.

I had to replace the old style blend door actuator in my 96, took about 4 hours to do. It's not difficult at all, just a little time consuming. If you have a shred of mechanical ability you can do this yourself.

What modle did the old stile came in if I need to change the atuator it self do I need to go to the dealer to get this part, or could I get it from some where else. You know the dealer like to charge dubble for what they selling, or is it good to repair it that if I can repair it, thank for the reply.

Up until 96. The dealer charged my $63 including tax for the part, was fairly simple to put in. In 97-98 the blend door arm goes bad, in earlier years the internal gears in the actuator motor (no arm) strip.

I have a 96, I'm thinking about doing it this weekend, so I will find out what the case may be abour the actuator, so eather I buy a new part or I fix the old one, I will make a post to let you know how it went..

There are 5 screws that hold the part in. If you remove the message center you can access 2 of them. If you have no heat it's the plastic gears that have stripped teeth. It's a fairly rare 1st gen problem, but seeing as 2 different 96's now have this problem (including mine), it might be a 96 thing. There is no blend door arm to mess with, just follow most of the disassembly instructions on the other site and the rest wil be easy. The dealer will know what part you are talking about. Good luck, it's not as hard as it looks.

It's the same deal, the gears in the unit break and the module can not move the door to the other position. Yours apparently is stuck on heat. Go to the dealer and order a blend door actuator motor. They will know what you are talking about.
