I have clunking noise from my front sway bar. My dealer told me I have to replace the whole sway bar. I asked if it was broken and he said it wasn't. I've had terrible luck believing anything my stealer has told me. Does anyone know if the sway bar mounting brackets can be replaced with new ones. Its on a 2001 LSV8 thanks. Doc

If it's not broken, why does it need to be replaced? Like getting medical advice, I'd get another opinion.

sway bars have links. links usally break. go somewhere else. most sway bar link kits sell for about 20 chips and maybe 35 for the install.

I have that clunking too. I haven't had time to fix that one yet. I can't believe you would have to replace the bar. It's probably the bushings and they are around $10.00 a piece. It could be the end-links too, and those are pretty easy to check. A lot of shops will check your front-end out for free, if you want a second opinion on it.

I had the same problem. Clunking noise over bumps. It was the sway bar bushings. Not expensive at all, covered under my warranty.

You might want to check out a TSB for the 01 v8.. Mine made clunks when going over bumps.... There is a TSB for that, the dealer took it in and fixed it free of charge..

The bushings need to be cut off and new ones that have a slit in them so they can slip over the bar. While your in there you may want to check into poly bushings if you're doing it yourself.

Glad you mentioned that. My manual doesn't say anything about that...or I am blind.

if you have the vehicle on stands it takes about an hour or so to change the bushings and links, dont forget to check lower ball joints. harsh roads beat the chit out of them, havent found anyone that offers just the joint.
