I'm rollingon 255/50/17... I don't ever remember seeing 16's that wide, maybe for trucks?

I was just thinking because when I compare the heights of 225/60/16 vs. 245/50/16 the 245/50/16 are a little over one inch shorter the the stockers. And when comparing the 255/50/16 they are only a half inch shorter and say the rim sizes are 7-9 in so I though they would work. so no one has though of this? :feedback

This is a tricky tire size. I did this for you using the miata.net tire calc, note the first one is stock that's why it says 0% change.

Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/60-16 5.3in 13.3in 26.6in 83.7in 757 0.0%
255/45-16 4.5in 12.5in 25.0in 78.7in 806 -6.0%
255/50-16 5.0in 13.0in 26.0in 81.8in 775 -2.2%
255/55-16 5.5in 13.5in 27.0in 85.0in 746 1.6%

This all depends on a few things. Do you mind the extra sidewall? Do you put a lot of miles on your car? Do you mind it being slower off the line? Do you mind the speedo being off a bit? These are all choices you have to make.

I ran 245/50/16's for years on the Stock Octastar wheels. Loved them.

245/50-16 Nitto 555R Drag Radials here.

Would've went 255 no problems if they stocked 'em.
