Trac Lok (the bearings on it are newish but gonna be tossed)
2 bottles Mobil1 75/90 gear oil
Ford friction modifier
pumpkin gasket
purple VSS gear
carrier bearings
inner/outer pinion bearings
axle bearings/seals
new pinion nut
pinion seal
crush sleeve
various shims
marking compound
dirve shaft
new ring bolts
Please tell me thats it.
And yes this is a large pic but thats so you can see if I am missing anything.

Icarus February 5th, 2010, 10:30 PM Some locktite, and maybe a new seal for the trans output if your changing the DS too.
The gasket for the cover ususally isn't ever used, rtv will work better.
Maybe an extra crush sleeve in case it's needed...
LaserSVT February 5th, 2010, 10:50 PM Locktite they will have at the shop. New output seal is a good idea though and I will buy one tomorrow.
IDK about the RTV though. My understanding is it needs to sit for 24 hours before putting fluid in. If thats true then he cant do it as he needs his lift. If it requires less time and I was just mis informed then please let me know. I will buy whatever kind is needed, just let me know.
Thank you for the help. :)
LaserSVT February 5th, 2010, 10:51 PM Oh yeah! How much of that FM should he use? The whole bottle?
1bad4.6l February 5th, 2010, 10:56 PM have never had a problem with putting a diff cover on taking a short break [3-5 min] and then filling and driving. The best rtv made is called "The right STUFF" not kidding either. google it. It comes in an aerosol can and is easy to lay the perfect bead. It aint cheap either though.
Icarus February 5th, 2010, 11:18 PM I'll usually put the cover on and have lunch or dinner, then fill it up and go...
You'll need the whole bottle of FM (4oz./118mL)
LaserSVT February 5th, 2010, 11:25 PM Having some trouble locating the output shaft seal at the parts places. Ive tried "trans seal" and "shaft seal" but it only seems to show the front seal and some selector shaft seal.
1bad4.6l February 5th, 2010, 11:29 PM Try slip seal, tailshaft seal, yolk seal, rear seal.
Chris_Murder February 5th, 2010, 11:46 PM X2 on "the right stuff" it's the best rtv by far! Made by permatex. I swear by it and so do many dealerships/mechanics.
1bad4.6l February 5th, 2010, 11:49 PM I am a mechanics.
LaserSVT February 6th, 2010, 01:12 AM So what? Autozone? Oreilies? Who sells it?
1bad4.6l February 6th, 2010, 01:20 AM Try slowreilys first thats where I go.
Chris_Murder February 6th, 2010, 09:27 AM Vatozone has it too
LaserSVT February 6th, 2010, 10:41 AM This what I want?

MediumD February 7th, 2010, 03:42 AM That's definitely the best for making oil sealing gaskets.
Frogman February 7th, 2010, 04:30 AM You forgot the purple crayons... Or, did you already eated them?
LaserSVT February 7th, 2010, 10:05 AM All crayons taste like purple.
ASMBLYLINE February 7th, 2010, 07:35 PM This might be a dumb question but i dont see the cross shaft in your carrier housing. That is a track loc right. Your gonna need that for sure. And the special long bolt that holds the shaft in place.
CobraStar_LS8 February 7th, 2010, 08:01 PM or he can send his parts over to one of us to inspect and make sure he got everything he needs:D
LaserSVT February 7th, 2010, 08:34 PM Special bolt that holds the shaft in place?
And the pin will come out of the open carrier in the car to go in the trac lok.
Icarus February 7th, 2010, 08:38 PM or he can send his parts over to one of us to inspect and make sure he got everything he needs:D
Good catch, it doesn't look like there's one there (#8 & 9 in the attached photo.) You have it somewhere Laser?
LaserSVT February 7th, 2010, 08:46 PM Oh, yeah that bolt and pin will both be comming off the open diff in the car.
When I bought the trac lok everyone on here told me that I will just re use the old ones.
Icarus February 7th, 2010, 09:03 PM k, it should slide in pretty snug without any play fwiw...
ford nut February 8th, 2010, 09:47 AM Your missing a real gear set.
3.73 is for pussies.
4.10 or deeper, go big or go home. :D
LaserSVT February 8th, 2010, 10:39 AM Yeah yeah yeah. I drive over 100 miles every day with a good portion of that doing over 80. 4.10s were not even on the table for me and really wanted 3.55s
Dont matter, car is in the shop right now and the old gears are already on the ground. :D
ford nut February 8th, 2010, 11:08 AM I drive 80 miles.
90% of it freeway.
I love the 4.10s.
3.55s, might as well stay stock.
jona571 January 12th, 2011, 03:52 AM I went with the 373 and Im very happy and if I need a little more gear Ill just throw a set of 225/55/16 on my baby
Dave 88 LSC January 12th, 2011, 06:18 AM Hey guys how much would a job like that set me back. Just labor to install say 3.55 gears and add a Trac loc. new bearings and all.
Is it as easy as dealing with the old 8.8 rears, or does the the whole rear suspension come down?
Estimate on price.
ONEBADMK8 January 12th, 2011, 10:32 AM You forgot a carrier stud kit man.
