sbcaprice305 January 19th, 2010, 06:18 PM i've made a thread about this before....seeing if anyone has any more insight. no cel's. getting 12mpg's. o2's are reading within spec, new copper plugs, cops have no cracks, iac is working( replaced), maf is cleaned, seafoamed, imrc's were stuck closed but i re-opened them and the problem remained......WTF!!!!

Seriously though, I would replace the COP's and boots anyway. Just because they are not cracked does not mean that one or more is not bad.

lol, my 94 after playing with the injectors.

i want to cry but, lol. atleast you got a sweet car out of it.jamies aka yours is very nice!
blacklsc1 January 19th, 2010, 07:19 PM have you checked the cats? a clogged cat would kill mileage. Does the car make good power? is anything coming out of the exhaust? do any of the manifolds glow?
marked8 January 19th, 2010, 07:23 PM Was the mileage loss before or after the Seafoam?
sbcaprice305 January 19th, 2010, 07:48 PM have you checked the cats? a clogged cat would kill mileage. Does the car make good power? is anything coming out of the exhaust? do any of the manifolds glow?
cats and the manifolds dont glow. but i do get a :q:q:q:qy smell sometimes wot. like eggs wich would mean cats.
sbcaprice305 January 19th, 2010, 07:52 PM Was the mileage loss before or after the Seafoam?
i've sf'd the thing many a time so that has nothing to do with it, but there was no mpg loss each time i did it.. i just listed it to let everyone know whats been done.
brentalan January 19th, 2010, 07:54 PM Nah, that's because you are dumping raw fuel in the exhaust because one cylinder is not firing.
and your misfire is most likely a bad coil. The boots don't need to tear for them to go bad.
I've had this happen 3 times. 5 more to go.
htrdlincoln98 January 19th, 2010, 07:56 PM Ok what do all the plugs look like. Go pull them out and post pics.

You can kill the O2's if something breaks off and fouls them which is exactly what happened to my 94 and why I asked if the loss was before or after. At least you can rule that part out. But as said before, my money is a bad COP or boot.

how do i go about fixing "the" coil... do i just buy one and keep replacing it on each cyl till the prob is fixed?
i was def thinking a bad coil or injector...was hoping for something easier though.
sbcaprice305 January 19th, 2010, 08:09 PM Ok what do all the plugs look like. Go pull them out and post pics.
Havent taken them out. just got the darn thing running again, lol. the new autolite 764's coppers only have maybe 500 miles on em'. i'll do the coil situation before i take the plugs out again, cant risk stripping the threads...
NoLimit95 January 19th, 2010, 08:17 PM One of the plugs could be fowled, if you put in Bosch 02's, that could be a problem, I also get that smell after a wot run. Kinda normal for most. Since the 764's are only $20 or under for 8 of them, I'd go ahead and change them again. One could be cracked. It could also be a coil, just leave those injectors alone lol. Please!
htrdlincoln98 January 19th, 2010, 08:22 PM DUDE check The F@#$ing plugs. You will see which Coils is bad. Reading spark plugs is to see what fuel mixture you have. If you're skeered of that then get your neighbors kid to do it for you.
Rather than go do a free check you want to play cyber guess what.

i know how to read sparkplugs, i'm not a fu/cking moron. thanks for the help di/ck. i just got the dam thing running and was looking for some helpfull advice.
shiryu0 January 19th, 2010, 09:11 PM scan for codes, a misfire will throw a code and not light up the CEL, seen it happen...............

i have checked and still nothing,, i think i'm going to get a new coil and switch it between all 8 plugs to see wich one is bad.
htrdlincoln98 January 20th, 2010, 06:20 AM If I remember right this is the advise you got last time. AND STILL YOU HAVEN'T LOOKED AT THE PLUGS. What I am wondering is if you cann't remove the plugs for fear you will screw-up the threads, then what are you able to do. As far fixing the car. Pulling spark plugs when they are easily accessible is one of the most basic auto repair/maintance tasks.
1) you have a mis fire. Check your plugs see if one is damaged, fouled, MISSING
2)You get SH!TTY gas mileage. Check your plugs see if one is damaged, fouled,MISSING.
Without looking you cann't be sure. At first maybe it was the coil. Now you changed that well what do you know it still has a mis fire cause the plug is fouled and still wont spark. Even tho the first cause has been fixed the problem continues its Possible. I'm done with this. So good luck:lol:

You can see which cylinder isn't firing correctly by checking plugs. Voila-change that COP!

i understand. i'm lazy at times reguarding the easy things (plugs).... lets put the b.s aside.. you seem like a good guy..
anywho, i'll do some investigating and let yall know.

their new thats why i havnt gone that route. guess i got that to do along with my rear spring conversion today. fun, fun, fun!
poniesviii January 20th, 2010, 07:36 AM I was going to ask you about that, you don't know how to get around the check air ride message when you spring the front and leave the rear eh?
It would be nice sometimes to just spring the front. Definately wouldn't want to spring the rear.
sbcaprice305 January 20th, 2010, 08:05 AM i got the check a/r everytime i started it up w/ the front only conv.. but one day the rear just deflated upon startup. luckily it was going into storage so it didnt matter much.
sbcaprice305 January 20th, 2010, 08:09 AM p.s ...i know about the wire.
ford nut January 20th, 2010, 08:40 AM Plug should be wet, stink of gas on the hole thats missing.
If your super lazy or worried you will strip a spark plug hole, I guess you could get one new coil and boot and keep trying to find which one is bad by swapping it one hole at a time.
But honestly pulling one plug at a time and looking for the wet one would take you less time.
brentalan January 20th, 2010, 12:22 PM In my case the misfire didn't happen all the time so the plug wasn't wet.
Personally I just moved my replacement coil until it stopped misfiring. I got it on the 3rd try!!!
Try the one closest to the driver on the driver's side first. That one seems to be more problematic if stuff gets in under the COP cover back there.

thanks for the advice. it's just hard at this point in my life to go out taking risks w/o a job.

Ya I bet, but at 12 MPG you will pay for the new coil on gas saving over time.
Plus the car will be more enjoyable to drive when your knocking on doors trying to find a job.
Good luck.
If its not a coil the next guess would be a vac. leak
sbcaprice305 January 20th, 2010, 01:32 PM well just went out and started her up. seems the passenger sides exhuast is lacking alot more then the drivers side.. So that would be a cat correct?

understandable, but its not my dd so i kinda put it off. i fixed the 1 vac leak i could find. (top of manifold) And it didnt help.
ford nut January 20th, 2010, 01:37 PM No.....your bad coil is on the passenger side, one hole not firing...less exhaust.
NoLimit95 January 20th, 2010, 01:40 PM Just drop the exhaust and see if you still have the miss. It's loud lol. I done mine in the garage and it sounded like Nascar in there. I don't think it's a cat. If one side is low on compression, due to a bad coil or fowled plug, it means it's gonna be a tad low on exhaust pressure too.
htrdlincoln98 January 20th, 2010, 05:07 PM You cannt tell Sh!t from looking at the exhaust tips. Both banks come together in the third cat and mix together then split again.....
