Dukernc January 2nd, 2010, 09:19 PM Ok newbie here. I have a 02 LS V8. In the last two (2) days the heated seats have had an intermitting issue. Never had any problems before! Yesterday went to turn on both heated seats and both switches didn't turn on. Later that night (5+ hours later) turned both switches on, they light up and worked fine and the seats heated up with no issue. Today went out and switches worked fine. Later in the day they didn't work? They both didn't light up nor did the seats heat up. Now this evening the passenger switch and seat worked fine and mine did not? The drivers' switch didn't turn on and hence no heat? I tried using the search feature and didn't find anything that was helpful for this issue. Any suggestions for this intermitting problem? Thanks in advance.

Dukenc

joegr January 4th, 2010, 08:42 AM Do they fail only when it is very cold inside your car?
Andrizzle January 4th, 2010, 05:59 PM Not to thread hijack, but I just noticed a similar problem just this last couple days.
My passenger heated seat in my 2004 will sometimes not turn on when it is very cold like you asked, joe. What could cause this?
The 3 green indicators light for a split second when the button is pressed, but do not remain on like the drivers side.

The gen II seats are much more complicated animals. It could be lots of things. The first thing to try is to see if that seat works when no one is sitting there. (Note that once it shuts down, it won't work correctly again until you turn the key off and back on.) If it works okay with no on in the seat, then it is probably a crushed air duct in the seat cushion. Otherwise, take the panel off the back of the seat and see if the air duct that goes to the seat back is disconnected. There is a TSB out about checking these two things.
If its not what's listed above, then you'll need a Ford specific scan tool to find out what the seat thinks is wrong and go from there.

My thought on the gen I seats is that the elements may be going open circuit when they are cold due to contraction of the metal of the element wires.

Hey Joegr,
Yes only when it was cold outside did they act up. Never did this before. Very strange. Why do you ask? Your thoughts? Thanks!

I think that the elements in the seats are pulling apart, but there are other possibilities.

Thanks Joegr,
For the suggestions. When it gets above 32f :) I'll take a look at it. Thanks again!

Dukernc January 18th, 2010, 01:57 PM UPDATE:,
So, it finally got above 32f this past weekend in NC and I checked all of the fuses for the heated seats. I did not find anything wrong with any of the fuses. In fact the other day the wife took the ls to work and the driver's side heater worked. Today it is not working?? I'm confused/lost on this one. Any sugestions? Thanks in advance!

Seat element. It works intermittently so the wires would be making occasional contact and the heat would work.
#1fordfan January 18th, 2010, 02:46 PM maybe you weigh much more than your wife (maybe not) and the added weight is causing a open circuit in the seat. lose some weight and see if the problem goes away.
Dukernc August 22nd, 2010, 10:11 PM :waving:UPDATE: Since changing clock spring the heated seats have been working fine even though it has been 98+ here in NC! Figures. LOL Will see how it goes come winter. Thanks again for all your help/advise. :)
bearsfan39 August 23rd, 2010, 01:16 AM good for you, but mine doesn't work when its hot or cold....
