Rear Glass Swapped

I had Glass Masters come out and take the glass out of the 93 parts car with near mint rubber and change it out from my 94 with pitted rubber, also mine had the rubber trimmed from the sides but not anymore. Now I have to have the window tinted again. It was a good time to vacuum the rear deck lol

He used a reciprocating saw with a flexible putty knife on the end and a spray bottle with water and a soap solution to cut through the old sealant. On mine, he done it all from the outside because I didn't care about the rubber so he just cut it out without ever getting inside the car once. I took some pics while he done some of this. It will look better when I get it tinted again. Going a little darker next time with the tint too.

Above is the glass from the 93. Top corners is where he had the most problems but he done a good job.

93 glass before he trimmed off all the excess rubber that was left after the cutout.

He didn't know what he had got himself into. :D

Same thing.

This is the bead of rubber sealant he used before installing the 93 glass in mine.

After the install it sprinkled a little bit but this is how it turned out. I now have good rubber all the way around without any pitting.

Just another bigger shot.

and this is what the total come to when he was done. Not too bad for a swap.

The saw was just a cordless one. Had a metal stem about 3 or 4 inches long with a 3" wide putty knife on the end and that's it.

If I had bought new glass and had it installed, the cost for the back window would have been a little over $400. $119 was for labor only because no glass was bought. You have to remember that he removed 2 rear windows and installed one. Not just a single r&r. It was a R&R&R and to me, well worth it. I'll take it to the tint shop this week and piss that guy off again. He really doesn't get mad but he hates my rear window. He done my other one 2 times. 5% the first time (got a ticket), 35% the 2nd time and now for this one, I'm going with 15% and hope they leave me alone because the rest is all 35% and our legal limit here is 32%. The guy does it in one piece and does a very good job but he's been doing it for over 17 years.

It has 3 ripples on the top pass side but the glass man taught me a fix for this. Before I say what it is, I'll try it first and see if it works. I'll take a before and after pic when I do it but he says he's done it and it works.

Your right. I forgot about the r&r in the parts car. I guess that is a pretty good price lol.

I promise he put plenty around the edges. Sides were single bead and top and bottom were double beads. I just didn't stand out there and keep taking pictures of him working. He didn't know wtf I was even out there with a camera for lol. Anyway, leakage is guaranteed to not happen or they will come back and fix it. The glass itself isn't guaranteed because it is used glass, only his labor is under lifetime warranty. It goes back in the garage this week anyway because the 93 is on it's way out.

Dude just remember NOT to roll down your windows IF your gonna take your car out for a spin or else the rear window will try to come off while the glue is still soft, if not future leaks but correct me if im wrong....peace

Sounds like a good deal you got :)
I'm curious as to this fix for the minor ripples as I have a couple starting on mine. I figured if a rock accidentally hit it, I'd get a new one then but rather try something till that happens... ;)

Got the rear window tinted with 15% and it turned out very good, all in one piece. I'll get a pic tomorrow because it's ripple fix time.

Now the total on the rear window + one piece tinting stands at $190 and I'm happy with it. Not going to put the JL Audio stickers back on it like I had before. Tint guy told me all I was doing was attracting the police with something white on a black window and making it more likely to be stopped and questioned about the darkness. Started looking tacky to me anyway.

I'll do the ripple work tomorrow sometime and get a pic or two. I only have 3 to get rid of.

Good deal!

My tint guy has been doing it 20 years and he did my window in one piece too... took him two tries though and he whined about it lol...
