Styles February 22nd, 2005, 12:28 PM I'm asking this in the forum just in case somebody else wants to know.
1. I noticed you did a 2" drop is it by springs? and how much of the ride did you loose? I'm not used to as much body roll that my new 2003 sport v8 has (ex WRX owner) but I love the ride right now for cruising, but when it comes down to the turns I would like to stiffen her up a bit with out loosing too much of the luxury ride felling.
2. Also you have a 2.5" exhaust with Flowmasters, how noisy is it? I would like to keep mine as a sleeper but under WOT I want to scare the crap out of people :) Also I'm thinking of 3" instead of 2.5 " because I want to install a supercharger.
3. Have you heard anything new about your supercharger kit yet from boosthead? I found a couple of Eaton m90 on ebay for $200 and I'm sure I can fab out something to make it fit and work, but I'm too familiar with the internals of the 2003 LS (this is my first v8) how much (IYHO) PSI do you think a stock 2003 Sport ls8 head can take safely? I have seen numbers from 3 - 14 PSI ???
Cheers, and thanx for your time,
Eric
P.S. I'm shooting for low 13's to high 12's

The 2" drop wasn't too bad - but w/bodykit it leaves the car less than 4" off the ground - so have to be careful on slopes, speedbumps...
I also added Howe spring rubbers to reduce the roll further - it is very stiff now - harsh stiff - but corners like on rails. (I also run about 1+ degree of negative camber).

The flowmasters are very loud - mustang loud, the V8 sounds pretty mean - but it is a kinda wake your neighbours up loud. If you're looking for something quiter - try Magnaflows or (even quiter) Borla.

Yes - I am Boosthead's ginea pig - infact - an intake and charger casing should be showing up today at my house - I am doing a test fit this weekend to make sure it all fits under the hood before we take the next step. The full kit should be on my car mid-March.
the engine is already running 10.5:1 compression - and you cannot buy stronger internals on the aftermarket - yet. So we are only going to run 4 - 5 psi.
Styles February 22nd, 2005, 01:13 PM Cool thanx man.. Keep us updated on the supercharger ;)

I have done much research though as to how much power this thing is going to add. here is a link. this thing is gonna be sweet.. lol there are actual photos of the supercharger on the vehicle. So all those looking to gain a couple horsepower here ya go..lol

here's some background for you:
- they have been promoting a SuperCharged LS since 2000 - never could get it to work and actually sold one of their Lses without the Supercharger on it. No doubt with the recent unlocking of the PCM - they probably have it working now - but at $5,500 is doesn't sound like big value.
jdsimons February 23rd, 2005, 10:15 AM i was also talking to a couple of wrench heads..lol -- mechanics-- that said they have no idea how it would work with the engine already at a high compression but needless to say i bet this thing does add some pony's.

Is it your thinking that the SC you are working with will be cheaper?

we will all hit the same limit - the engine has stock internals at 10.5:1 compression, the trannie is good for 340hp, the rearend.....

yep - will not have all the pieces put together till the end of the March - but looks to be in the $3,500-$4,000 range - depending on the 'tuning' required / intercooling sytle.

How big is the intercooler so far quickLS do you have it in your hands yet ?
P.S.
Added some blury pics of my new ride :)
Quik LS February 23rd, 2005, 11:54 AM not yet - tonight I should finish with test fitting the chager and manifold.
got to see if my air tube will clear the charger pulley and see if it will all tuck under the hood.
if not we may have to reroute the air tube - which will change the intercooler design/placement.
BTW: car looks good and clean :Beer

Here's some pics.
1) Starting shot - all pretty.
2) Ending shot - stock intake manifold out.
3) mock up Eaton with the 'rough' intake manifold
Next steps are to trial fit, grind, cut, fit, grind, cut, ....etc
JaredLS February 24th, 2005, 11:28 AM can't wait too see it in the engine...:) any idea on how much it will increase the performance?

something like 80-ish...
Styles February 24th, 2005, 11:43 AM Right on QuickLS too bad I live way up North of you or I would be at your house helping. So how well did it fit, how much fab and mod do you think you'll have to do?
JaredLS February 24th, 2005, 11:46 AM NICe! Get the price down to 2000 and I'll buy one today. :Beer

haven't tried to test fit yet - but eyeballing it - looks like quit a bit of fighting for space. The cooling tower, the rad hoses, hydralic fan hose, ....etc
not alot of room.
but it's fun looking at the 100 or so pieces of my car on the garage floor :wrench

Do think if you swaped out heads lets say for a 202 race or Jag E-Type head, would screw with the supercharger even more?
Quik LS February 24th, 2005, 12:00 PM Do think if you swaped out heads lets say for a 202 race or Jag E-Type head, would screw with the supercharger even more?
there would be alot of modding as none of those are direct bolt swaps - the jag started with the same block but that where is ended.
IMHO, the better approach would be to port the current heads and play with the cams
jdsimons February 24th, 2005, 01:36 PM Hey good work quik, thanks for the pictures, man i hate to see it all prettied up then tore down like like.. lol.. You said that you are going to increase the size of the oil cooler as well, figure out if that is even gonna fit..Good luck looks like its coming along just fine. look like you may need to add a hole in the hood too.. lol
GrayGhost1 February 24th, 2005, 02:54 PM ... look like you may need to add a hole in the hood too.. lol
That's why he's test fitting it so that we won't have to cut a hole in the hood. This way it's a complete SLEEPER!
MikeB February 24th, 2005, 03:28 PM On someone elses car it might be a complete sleeper, but not on Quick LS's.
If something that looked like that pulled up next to me, I be chasing it to get a better look.

Where did you get that grill!!!
Quik LS February 24th, 2005, 04:11 PM it's $10 chrome mesh I bought off e-bay and then cut and tie-wrpped to the stock grill....
Styles February 25th, 2005, 11:10 AM I know, I know I'm prob pushy and you have a life Quick but did ya make any progress?
Also when you do get ready to mod and install any chance to document what ya did with pics so when I'm ready or anybody else to get one we'll have some what a guide to follow :) I'll drive down to TX and buy ya couple of rounds :Beer
Cheers,

Nope - sorry - been on nightly conference calls dealing with pending company aquistitions....
But should be able to tackle the rest of the fitting this weekend.
Next step is to drain the rad and remove the cooling tower....
SurfjaxLS February 27th, 2005, 08:00 PM I'm just glad that people like Quik have what it takes to take a $40,000 car and cut holes in it, try new ideas, and well, be a guinea pig for the rest of us. Most people would turn away from a project such as a custom supercharger, I would. Also, paddle shifts from an M3, and the scoop aren't easy mods either.
I applaud you Quik, and keep up the good work.
:gr_hail:
m1i2k9e February 27th, 2005, 08:19 PM Speaking of that paddle shift, I would love to know how that was done and the amount of work that is entailed (I'm sure it's no walk in the park). Did you ever put up a how to on that? As SurfjaxLS said, I give you a lot of credit for undergoing these tremendous projects you have taken on! :yourock:
kleetus February 27th, 2005, 11:18 PM 80 HP? Wow... that would be great, but at 10.55:1, how much boost do you anticipate being able to run without needing aviation fuel to keep you from detonating? It Kinda sucks our compression is so high from this regard...
I was reading some literature from B&M and happened across a chart for compression ratio vs boost and effective output. It wasn't pretty. We're looking at an intake air charge of like 270 degrees, before compression on an average summer day. Throw the compression stroke in there and you're at like 550 degrees... I know you want to intercool it, but but do you think you will be able to take that much heat out of it? What about water injection? Water will take down a lot of heat, and it won't hurt us...
Quik LS February 27th, 2005, 11:21 PM 80 HP? Wow... that would be great, but at 10.55:1, how much boost do you anticipate being able to run without needing aviation fuel to keep you from detonating? It Kinda sucks our compression is so high from this regard...
only looking at 4 - 5 psi.
yep - intercooling will be tough with the limited room to work with. the setup he is using currently is an alcohol/water injection.
Quik LS February 27th, 2005, 11:23 PM I had to remove my cooling tower to finish test fitting the supercharger.
I guess the 03+ have a different setup but here is what mine looks like (before I pulled it off)...
Quik LS February 27th, 2005, 11:23 PM Here's some pics of the supercharger sitting on the intake.....
Quik LS February 27th, 2005, 11:25 PM - so I took a bunch of measurements and pics - then put my LS back together.
- and it started...(whew!)
- so I washed it to applogize for operating on it
- and then drove it around for 20mins - nothing blew-up and nothing fell off!
BDSax February 27th, 2005, 11:53 PM wow......... im glad i found this site. i thought i bought an old man car that would only be stock. but that is bad to the bone. very cool quikls

Hey BDSax... welcome to the LvC... I live over on the Gulf Coast... We have a lot of Fl residents on here so you should feel right at home.
I feel a Florida LS Fest coming on!
SurfjaxLS February 28th, 2005, 05:36 PM I feel a Florida LS Fest coming on!
Definitely, put it somewhere around Orlando so it is somewhat centrally located.

I think it is a great place to gather around for a tire kicking. Autocrossing is pretty big there. I will see if I can find a schedule and find a date that might work for use all.
Too bad can't do it this Saturday. GM is having a big test drive thing out at Epcot. everything from the Cobalt to the Hummers will be onsite for tiring and such.
We can convert a few GM buyers over to the FLM, particulaly the LS, products.
SurfjaxLS February 28th, 2005, 06:09 PM I'm gonna be gone ever weekend in April, and the first and third weekends in March, kinda sucks.
eL eS February 28th, 2005, 06:12 PM where to?
SurfjaxLS February 28th, 2005, 06:16 PM I'll actually be in Sarasota this weekend, Orlando the third week in March. Virginia Tech April 1-3, NC State April 8-10, prom the 16th, and grad night the 23th.

Jeez we will keep missing each other. I am in Orlando this weekend and next weekend. i think we are going to WPB either the third or 4th weekend and Sunrise on the weekend that remains.
Ahh spring is in the air. Jeez March 20th is 1st day of Spring wow... what happened to winter?
SurfjaxLS February 28th, 2005, 06:35 PM This will take forever to coordinate, this many conflicts with just 2 people, just think about all the Florida members we have.
Styles March 31st, 2005, 11:54 AM Quick any progress on the supercharger? I been gone for a bit so I'm not sure if I missed anything
Quik LS March 31st, 2005, 01:12 PM I should be receiving prototype #2 in about a week for another test fit. I'll post pics. The new design drops the mainifold another 1"1/2 and allow us to use a thunderbird SC -like setup so the price of the kit is coming down.

Yeah I was looking really hard for an Impala SS when I stumbled on this hog.
jdsimons March 31st, 2005, 04:01 PM Speaking of impalas... My brother has a 96 impala SS with 7,000 miles on it.. Said he might be interested in selling it.. lol.. But i drove it around and he drove my ls around for awhile.. and well think the impala has just some kick in pants power.. I mean i burned rubber just trying to leave the stop light and it wasn't on purpose like he thought.. eventhough he'll sometimes takes it out a leave city block long tracks all over town.. lol

Man that thing is hardly broken in yet. Is he on house arrest :). j/k Even if I was in the position to buy it I don't know where I would keep it. I'd hate to keep the LS in the drive and I know my wife isnt going to give up here spot. That would be a tough decision.
jdsimons April 1st, 2005, 07:59 AM lol... Ya . he bought it as kind of a collector item.. so he never drives it much, but after i told him i bough an ls he said that he likes the LS a lot and after i let him drive it
I could tell he enjoyed driving it a little more then the impala.. He thought the LS inside looked a lot better and felt more like a performance car and like the size of the car didn't feel like a boat when driving down the highway. but it doesn't have the power of the impala and one of these days i told em we will have to go out to the quarter and race em just to see how much faster it really is.. Still haven't tried it yet but one of these days.. lol

the LS would be a force to be reckoned with if it had more power. I would love to see one in the scca GT class up against the CTSV, Vettes and such.

I'm thinking give it an HONEST 350 RWHP and 350 RWTQ and you'd be talkin. I'd love to see that. Too bad the LS driver demographics aren't more geared towards performance, we might see some actual mods like heads, cams, ect.
eL eS April 1st, 2005, 07:07 PM I think they could pull the crowd their in failure to attempt to pull that crowd is where they have failed. Since they killed the mark and under powered the LS the have gutted themselves by failing to build a titillating product.
I was lured in by its appearance and the prospect of tuning it like the Mark owners have. 5 years later we are still dead in the water but we are starting to make steam.
