smokinlsc July 8th, 2009, 04:26 PM I recently changed the belt on my 98 lsc it was worn and squeaked. The car was quite for a few weeks and out of the blue the squeak is back! This time it only lasts for a few minutes and goes away. Whats wrong? Any thoughts and advice would be great. Thanks.
rayner601 July 8th, 2009, 05:01 PM Maybe the tensioner pulley squeaking?
deadmark8 July 8th, 2009, 05:15 PM did it just get done raining hard, i know mine squeaks after a nice hard rain but it goes away after a bit.

kustomizingkid July 8th, 2009, 05:47 PM Huh?
There is a forward and backwards... trust me... think directional tire...
mespock July 8th, 2009, 06:37 PM Good chance the squeal is one of the idler pulleys. Get them from max and you'll not have to change them again so soon.
Lux July 8th, 2009, 08:06 PM I gotta get one of those belts.
I have a brand new tensioner, brand new pulleys, brand new belt and my car still squeaked/squeaks on the 1-2 shift....much more noticeable now with the tuner on it.
Green Machine July 9th, 2009, 08:39 AM dont pay $60-$65 for a Gatorback belt from Goodyear stores. go to Summit Racing and get em for $22.99 + shipping. #4060980 is the belt we use. i bought new idlers from Max and it helped a little, but it still made noise. i replaced my new napa belt with a Gatorback, and wow, and you can hardly hear the motor running. like new now.
hope i saved you some $$..

kustomizingkid July 9th, 2009, 09:58 PM I still need a Gatorback for my Mark... better order one up!
chicken July 9th, 2009, 10:24 PM ive seen where people put a new belt on and wait to replace the tensioner and it will "glaze" the new belt, then when they change the tensioner it still squeaks. try deglazing the belt with a wire brush (both sides) i usually do it with the car running (READ: ) CAREFULLY
