My plan for '80 Town Coupe

First of all, Im thinking to install new vinyl top for '80 Town Coupe. Why not I put "Collector's Series" emblems on the vinyl Top? Or just leave it a blank on the vinyl top? Beacuse this car is already 25 years old, can be become collector.

My plan:

*need new carpet
*need new headliner
*need new weatherstrips for Moonroof
*need to fix the door handle
*need to fix signal switch from steering wheel
*need new engine 351 <---not planning just yet.

That all for now, and will post it more in later time!

Is that a rare car? I don't think I've seen one. Very cool.

A 2-Door Continental from 1980 with a 351 and a moonroof is a pretty rare combo. In mint, it's worth quite a bit

Jason, don't forget to replace the front turn lamp cover on the driver's side!

Yeah, I have two front turn lamps in my bedroom!! Both front turn lamps lens are very nice and way much better than what '80 town coupe's lens (too dirty and have some cracks on lens). That why I will replace them soon.

I have the skinny on this. I've been working on this all week. The folks over at NAHC told me that the Standard Catalog of American Cars states that there were 7,177 Town Coupe's made in 1980.

It is very dificilt to find info on these and I think they were only made in 79 and 80

They were made in 80' and 81'. I have seen very few of them, although a friend of mine collects them and has three of them. One interesting thing is that in the small window in 1980 it says town coupe, in 1981 it says town car.

I have seen 79 Town Coupe before so they were definitly made in 79. The 81 may just be a 2 door Town Car

Interesting ride. I love big 2 door cars. Personally, I'd leave all the badging original. It's actually more collectible with everything correct than if you add badging that the car never had. If someone was looking to buy one purely as a collector, they would probably look up the VIN and determine what the car had from the factory and look for those things.

If you really want to be anal about things, overhaul the existing 351 (assuming its the original engine) that way you have a numbers matching car.

Yeah, I agreed with you, I always wanted to keep everything original coditions of '80 Town Coupe. I will rather leave all the badging original. This car still an original 351 V8. So, I will take time to processing restoration of this car. I dont want rushing too fast processing, just take time.

I love big 2 door car!!

codewize, you are correct, they did make a towncoupe in 79'. However it was the older larger bodystyle of 79'.

So they were made with that body in 80 and 81? That's everything I like about my Towncar as far as body (and front end) style with 2 doors and a real V8. Did I say very cool? I meant DAMN cool. I want one.

If it is a 1980, you definately have a rare piece. 1980 was the only year they made Continental Town Cars in that bodystyle, in 1981, the Continental was eliminated and the Town Car took its place. In 1982 they re added the Continental and they also dropped the Town Coupe in '82. 7177 2-door Continentals were built in '80, who knows how many of those made it out of the plant with Town Coupe treatment. I'd say hold on to it. Its kinda rare.

If 7177 2-door continetals were built in 1980, what else would they be besides Towncoupes?

I think they were just called continental coupes, just the base model. The Town Car was an option package. I could be mistaken.

Yes, that is correct. There have two trim level:

Top of line:

Continental Town Coupe

Base model:

Continental Coupe

Hope that clear to you.
