Which would win in a drag race

So back before my car broke down i used to spank on stangs all day long. But now one of my friends went and bought a 1997 ford Taurus SHO. We cant decide who would win and i cant afford to fix my car at the moment so any input on who would win the 4.6l V8 dual DOHC w/ rear wheel drive against the 3.4l DOHC V8 w/ front wheel drive

Stock for stock a Mark should take a GenIII SHO. They are typically mid-high 15 sec cars.

Mark wins... the V8 SHOs aren't that quick... and like to break cam sprockets too...

100% of the time the Taurus SHO will kick the living dog crap out of broken Mark 8.

there is no "if my car wasn't broken it would beat your car".

That's like saying "my dad can beat up your dad".

Fix your car, then take them to the track.
That is the only way to answer this question.

the difference between the two cars performance can/will easily be surpassed by a "better driver" in the other car.

"by the numbers" the cars are close to equal
its gonna be "the nut behind the wheel, that makes the difference".

Again, please take it to the track, this dispute could never be honestly settled in a street race with no timers, it could easily be a "PHOTO FINISH".

the actual term that ford uses is "swedging". The cam sprocket is actually pressed onto the cam(interference fit). eventually it will work its way loose. Fords fix for this, is to fill the seam with loctite. A much better fix is to have them spot welded, or pinned. The 3.4liter is actually one of the smoothest engines ford ever built(or should i say yamaha who assembled it, though ford designed it) The third gen sho's also have one of the quickest, smoothest shifting trannies. It be a good race, but im giving the edge to the mark 8. Off the line the sho's geared better, but i think once 50 mph comes the mark will charge past it.(thanks to better gearing, and bigger lungs) i had a 97 sho that i miss, and i own a 98 mark 8.

I miss my 95 SHO nearly every day, but with over 150k the trans was living on borrowed time.

According to the SHO forums, the process used was swaging, whereby the sprocket would be put on, then a metal ball (of slightly larger size than the hollow cam) would be forced through.

i had to change the alt in a v8 sho (lot car) so after i changed that mess i had to test the "high rmp alternator output" :D well needless to say i was very disappointed.....id be willing to bet a 3.0 dohc v6 taurus is faster

No way... the V8 Sho is a mid 15 second car...

IMO, if you have a 1st gen you will win, if you have a 2nd gen it will be close.
