I usually check www.crutchfield.com and use the "what fits my car" link over on the left. Fill in the fields and it tells you what size speakers for each location.

I would personally buy 5.25" and an adapter to fit in the 5x7 hole.

I used 6x8 speakers in my front doors and had no problems with fitment.

5x7's are the stock size, but you can also use 6x8's.make sure that the speakers are designed for ford/linc/merc specification.it may not be a problem though if they aren't.

5"x7"
don't forget to order http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Iq6xNPLKKk6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=103100&I=12071048 which will plug right into the stock Ford wiring.

Well i currently in the middle of a complete custom audio video solution for my lincoln ls. What i used for front doors are 6.5" component sets and 5.25" components in the back door. not sure the the guy helping out actually had to trim just a little bit or if it went it without it. But he said it went in very easy. I would personally go with the 5.25" speakers to just agree with black03. The sound quality from round speaker better than that of oval's. Not sure that you will be able to notice but when if you compete a lot that microphone can pick up the slightest distortion pretty incredible. lol..

Do I need some sort of adapter for the door with 5.25" or any component set or do they just fit in there and leave gaps?

I had to use adapters when I put 5.25 in the 5x7 hole in my truck. Got them from sounddomain.com for around $10 I think.

ya definately make a template or something. you can order em from anywhere or from you audio store usually. Will definately keep the sound quality with some sort of a baffle there.
