LS Newbie, Radio Light Question!

I recently bought a 2000 V8 LS and I am loving it. I was driving a dropped mustang gt so the comfort in the LS is great. I am still trying to get familiar with all the features.

Now I dont know if this is a "feature" or a problem, sometimes my lights on the radio wont turn on whenever I turn on the driving lights, but when they do turn on Im able to turn off my car and the radio stays on until I open my door which is pretty cool. Whenever the lights on the radio arent working, the radio turns off as soon as I turn the car off. I was reading the manual and it states something about the radio having "selective lighting", how do I turn this off... or is there something wrong with my electrical?

radios in a lot of ford products suffer a similar issue. The radio has a dc/dc converter that drives the lights and the LEDs for the tuner, volume display and such. I have not personally repaired an LS radio but I have performed the repair on Ford Explorer radios.

Your chouces are live with it, send it to an independent repair shop because Ford does not perform component level repairs or buy and new head unit, HU, either oem or aftermarket.

I wish I had the wiring diagram for this car as i might be able to ID the parts that simply need to be resoldered. rest assured though that it is radio centric and nothing else is busted.
