ncsuengin9 May 4th, 2009, 06:28 PM I have a 2003 LS v8 with about 83,000 miles. I have already had the passenger side VCG fail which happened going up an exit ramp to the high way. Once that was replaced, the CATs went out and had to be replace. Then I have had two separate coil failures, #7, and #8, each when I was going up an exit ramp to the highway. Also been noticing stumbling going up hills on the highway for about a month. So now I am pretty sure I am on my 3rd coil failure. So far the dealership has not been willing to replace the driver's side VCG. My question to everyone is what is the primary cause of the coils going bad, the VCG or just bad coils?

Check my photo gallery, I have a link to a thread I made that covers these cars for 10 years/100,000 miles as far as coils and leaky valve cover gaskets go. Print the pics of the letter I posted there if they give you any sh*t.
Unless of course they're aware of this for your car. Then in that case forget what I said. :D

Just got the call thats is the #6 coil and they are claiming there is no oil in the well, so I guess Ford designed coils that go bad when you drive up hills........
NYC LS8 May 5th, 2009, 09:58 AM No, they designed coils that wear out due to heat from being covered. At least the car will be back in better shape when you get it.

I had four fail on my 04 so far, with no oil leak.
If you have less than 100K miles, you shouldn't be paying for these coil replacements, it covered by Ford/Lincoln.

No, 2003 - 2005 only.
joegr May 5th, 2009, 11:42 AM Has it been extended to 06 models? My letter of May 20,2008 gave coverage only for 2003, 2004, and 2005.
cammerfe May 5th, 2009, 12:34 PM VCGs simply leak when they fail. This has nothing to do DIRECTLY with the way the engine runs. Coil failure is very common, and there's a coil for each cylinder.
