unity May 2nd, 2009, 04:56 PM So I was thinking. Some day the door handles will be hard to come by. That may be 10 years from now given all the Marks and Contis out there.
But I was thinking anyway. I wonder how hard it would be to wire in door poppers with a switch so when the door handle is raised the poppers are activated. It would take all the stress off the handles.
Like I said, random thought. Might be a fun project to take up anyway considering the door poppers are not horribly expensive.
Frogman May 2nd, 2009, 04:59 PM I wouldn't think it'd be all that hard, Unity. Microswitches are cheap nowadays.
stang99x May 2nd, 2009, 05:21 PM Just get a shaved door kit and don't take out the handle if you don't want it gone;)
chicken May 2nd, 2009, 05:22 PM lol make mock handles
unity May 2nd, 2009, 05:57 PM lol make mock handles
LOL Ya, fake handles.. LOL :) Not sure why that made me laugh so much.... I need to get outta here and head home!
timothyr May 2nd, 2009, 06:00 PM actually what about corvette c6 stylt handles....membrane microswitch on the inside of the handle, then reinforce and jbweld the underside so it no longer lifts.
I am gonna try this as I need to replace my drivers side handle anyway.
kustomizingkid May 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM Why not just go for the full shaved handle at that point... it's been done!
timothyr May 2nd, 2009, 11:11 PM i am too traditional when it comes to the looks....I still like my chrome
although this idea has me seriously thinking....there is nothing that stops you from modifying the keypad to do the "popping", your limitation would become not being able to open the pass door from outside.
96hotrodlincoln May 2nd, 2009, 11:22 PM I give you exhibit 1 and exhibit 2

kustomizingkid May 2nd, 2009, 11:24 PM Damn I like how that looks....
96hotrodlincoln May 2nd, 2009, 11:25 PM I'm working on an RFID solution for popping my doors as well as remote control. Place the RFID sensor in the quarter window, wave the fob by it, door pops open. Just looking for something a little different.
timothyr May 2nd, 2009, 11:27 PM doesnt do it for me.....i think i am going to make the handles "fake" and go the popper route
96hotrodlincoln May 2nd, 2009, 11:29 PM Shave the handles, airbrush them back on!
timothyr May 2nd, 2009, 11:34 PM let me know if you want help on the rfid solution...I have it in all my cars both for entry and for starting....digging for keys while carrying a kid just doesnt work for me.

If you hit the 5-6 key (IIRC) after entering your code it will unlock the pass door, you could make it work.
timothyr May 2nd, 2009, 11:39 PM that was what i was thinking....but occasionally i like to open the door for my wife...the other thought would be to retrofit it into the pass handle...nissan put pads on both sides....
I like 96's idea of airbrushing them back on....if i could find someone who could make them look damn real I could see doing it when I have the thing repainted
k9t8m May 3rd, 2009, 08:57 AM is that your car adam?
chicken May 3rd, 2009, 09:48 AM If you hit the 5-6 key (IIRC) after entering your code it will unlock the pass door, you could make it work.
4-3 will unlock the other door(s) and 5-6 will pop the trunk, after the code is entered pf course
96hotrodlincoln May 3rd, 2009, 09:50 AM is that your car adam?
Fo sho!
kustomizingkid May 3rd, 2009, 02:28 PM Is it going to be done for the beach party :D
96hotrodlincoln May 3rd, 2009, 06:30 PM No, but I'm not going to make it to the beach party this year either, we're geared up for buying a house, so we're saving as much as we can to go towards a down payment. I had already booked my room and everything, then we made this decision. I need to call and cancel my reservation before I forget.
kustomizingkid May 3rd, 2009, 11:31 PM Are you serious????
It would cost you what $150 to come if you did it frugally, give me a break!

Unfortunately, I don't feel like sleeping on the ground, I'd rather have a bed, AC, and a shower! So it was going to be closer to 500 for the trip. That includes meals, gas, and hotel.
Trust me, I really wanted to come this summer but with everything else that came up, I just don't think it's going to fly. This house is pretty important, I'm tired of throwing money away in rent. Plus, the wedding plans still need to be finalized. There's always next year, unless Rich up and kicks the bucket, he is getting pretty old you know!
kustomizingkid May 4th, 2009, 09:54 AM HAHAHAHAHA..... I understand... I just do things on the cheap. Hell my spring break trip cost me $350 to drive down to Houston!
unity May 4th, 2009, 10:14 AM We should get a charity fund going :)
chicken May 4th, 2009, 09:28 PM ive financed boscobel every year with pocket change, every day i throw it in a drawer and after a year i got enough to pay for gas food hotel and most important BEER! i just never use exact change whether i have it or not, then a day or two before i head north i cash it in and roll
kustomizingkid May 4th, 2009, 09:45 PM Whatever Chicken... you have enough money to go on your epic trip to New Orleans you have enough money to go to Boscobel.
chicken May 5th, 2009, 12:02 AM no new orleans was the tax return
MediumD May 5th, 2009, 02:59 AM You damn midwest/east-coasters...
Oh well, I have a Mark VIII meet at least every week or so, my friend with a 97 LSC and me with my 93 meet up. That's at least 1/3 of the Marks in town.
kustomizingkid May 5th, 2009, 10:30 AM Make the drive up... Wisconsin is the coolest place EVAR!
96hotrodlincoln May 5th, 2009, 12:40 PM If I was a smoker, I'd give it up between now and then, I'd definately have enough money then. But I'm not a smoker so that won't work. I don't go do anything, I don't play the lottery, I don't blow money on anything, so I don't have anywhere to cut corners to save the money.
Maybe I could double the prices on the "Ray Switch" and LVC could then fund the trip, what do you guys think?
kustomizingkid May 5th, 2009, 01:35 PM We don't need to see you that bad....
mespock May 5th, 2009, 03:06 PM It would be nice to get more of you guys at the Beach Party ... also good for those who are making things like the Ray Switch, I know Speed Demon was working on some things he wanted to show off too....
I think I have all my rooms in my house filled now with Pepps, Gil, and Mike ...
poniesviii May 5th, 2009, 03:15 PM Unity, I think it's a maserati I saw in a movie, has some wicked door handles for a cleaned up mark.
Maybe look at '05 and newer masi's, maybe you'll find what I'm talking. .. It's a V shape, V layed on it's side, top of the V is where you grab, so you pull the handle from the rear quarter panel towards the front fender, standard location, maybe a bit further back on the car than our handles would look best. The bottom of the V is curved, and the handle isn't flat but not overdone so it's really aesthetically pleasing. A body man wouldn't need masi parts to build these handles. Sorry about the story, but I'd love to have those if I didn't have other plans. They'd look wicked on a clean mark, they'd flow really well.
