I've got this '89 mazda 929 and all of a sudden it won't start all the time.

Turn the key to start and it just makes a "click" from down by your feet, everything else works fine. It'll go for days then start doing this, then quit doing it, then start doing it.

Anyone up on japanese starter circuits?

It could just be a bad connection on the terminal. You should see if the battery is strapped down, and make sure there is no corrosion on the terminals. This type of thing happens to me on my Challenger, it's always the battery connection, for me at least.

Or the other end of the cable on the starter. Either way it does sound like a connection problem. I guess it could be the starter itself or a relay but I'd check the cable first.

I'll check thise out, but everything else seems OK, headlights, radio, etc. so it would have to be a connection in the starter circuit.

Do they have relays in odd places?
