I would like to replace my 2000 LIncoln LS HU with a 2001/2002 HU which has a built in 6-CD unit. I want to get rid of my CD changer which is not working and I don't want to spend money to fix it.
I assume that I would need to change the wiring harness/connector. Can anyone tell me what wiring harness I would need to change in order to install the 2001/2002 HU ?
I have a 12-speaker system.

You can change the head units out as long as you have the correct set up. You can NOT switch the non-Alpine unit with an Alpine or vice versa. One of them has a built in amp. I don't know which but I tried about 3 years ago to swith my non-Alpine unit with an Alpine unit and it didn't work. The harness is the same on the cassette unit as it is on the CD changer unit. If you have the 12 speaker system then you have the Alpine unit.
Hope that helps.

I currently have the Alpine HU (with tape and CD changer) in my 2000 LS (with 12 speakers). Does this mean that I replace this HU with my other Alpine HU (with built in 6-CD) without any wire harness/connector changes ?
Both are Alpine HUs.
Thanks for your help thus far...

Yes! It's a direct swap.

Speaking of making a swap on head units... I have the same setup as Majdelboy... tempermental 6 dsk changer in the glovebox and so on. My question is, does the '01 in dash changer unit have the same features as my '00? I'm speaking of the RDS, the DSP for the effects and seat priorities? I don't use them that often, but it's a nice touch. Just wondering...

On my Alpine HU with in-dash 6-CD I have the DSP, but no RDS button. This is good enough for me.
I haven't swapped HUs before, can anyone tell me the steps to take out the existing one...tx.

Not hard, pop off air vent cover above HU, and the "U" piece around cig lighter with small screwdriver. Take off screws that hold on cig lighter, and move gearshift into neutral, enough to take it out of the way, and put back into park. Take off the 4 screws that hold on the HU. Remove antenna output and harnesses from back of HU. Reconnect all harnesses and antenna output on new HU, replace screws, cig lighter, and trim pieces.

Yesterday I was able to sucessfully swap out my '00 HU for a '02 HU. In-dash CD is great. It looks like all the features on the '00 HU is available on the '02 HU.
Thanks for all your help...great bunch of guys !
