Headlight power

Anyone know what is legal or not? I've been looking but haven't found anything so far. I see packages that say 100 watts is legal for offroad use only. In SD codified laws all I found is you can't subject someone to headlight glare. I've read of people putting in 80\85 watt replacements and some going to 100 watt on low beam. Seems kinda looking for a ticket. I would like to upgrade my lights and go brighter. I can get 80\85 watt replacements but can't see spending $40-$60 to be a ticket catcher.

I heard going with a higher watt will burn up the computer, unless you upgrade the wiring. . .

In NY state the max wattage is 65. The computer could not be harmed by doing anything to the bulb wattage as no operational current runs through any computer.

The computer is a control device and uses low voltage relays, micro switchs and transistors to operate different functions.

On a side note, I don't think the headlights are controled by the computer at all.
