i think it is coming from the heater core......

when i drive and it gets up to operating tempture (never before), smoke that smells like coolant come from the vents no mater what the setting is on the climate control.

yesterday on my way back from work i looked under the car and it has a small drip from the heater core entrance but could not find exact location..

p.s. 88 tc

anybody have this problem before or know what is going on with this?????

It is the heater core, no doubt in my mind, and they are such a pain in the ass. :Bang

They are indeed a PIA, so to be sure, disconnect the hoses to the heater core and connect them to each other making a loop by-passing the heater core. Drive around awhile and if your leak has stopped you have a heater core to replace. What fun!

Might also want to check around the back of the engine where the lines that feed the heater core are just to see if anything is wet there. Could be a pinhole leak in one of those and the vent system is sucking up the fumes. Its a bit of a long shot but you might get lucky. Do you also have problems with the windows fogging up or is the passenger side floor damp? Those are other signs of a leaky core.
