i dont agree... im a mustang guy too... i would lose the stock axles if you have the cash.... hard launches will soon eat those up too... put some torque box reinforcements in while your at it.... cheap enough..

I have never seen a mildly modded car, or even a drag radial car destroy a stock axle in any short manner of time.... Hell my friend has been spray a 150 shot on his Crown Vic with a 3700 rpm stall on DR's and has never had an axle problem....

When people put slicks on and run at the track they start having issues... but unless you have huge plans why not stay with stock axles.

if im going to be having any fun with the car i dont want any problems with it...there are a couple of guys that have had a broken axle that i know of...plus i want a better diff and might use the one out of the cobra in the lincoln if i get adventurous....

If I had the money and the rear apart I would upgrade the axles.

go moser on the axels with a ford trac lock with new clutches and the r&p ratio of your choice.

oh yeah and some red thread locker and a tourque wrench. very vital to rear end installations.

ok internet tough guy. Ive been around fox's since I was 14. STFU and stop being a hypocrite. I know 2 people personally who have sheared their stock 8.8 28 spline 4 lug axles and in which I physically in real life.. Not in your internet lala land have witnessed. So know youre roll and shut your mouth..... candy ass..... You're a very ignorant kid. Go jump off a bridge.

Still doesn't give you any defense for you're vague, unknowing comment. Mind you, they were basic bolt on t-5 cars with stock gears.

Two things...

The bolts may have been reused; they are TTY bolts and must be replaced after their initial torque, otherwise they can stretch too much, or break. It would appear they might have stretched a bit and there by loosened up. You should also put a bit of loc-tite on there for good measure. Anyhow, I've seen the exact same results from reusing original bolts on a 95GT.

Axles... if you have any decent power, intend on taking it to the strip regularly... do the axles. Yes, it is likely that the car could go forever without braking an axle. BUT, if it does... you stand the chance of entirely totaling out your car since we're talking C-Clip axles here. Lose a tire/axle and roll the car. That is of course, assuming we're talking about a straight axle cobra. If we're talking IRS... I've only ever heard stories of broken half-shafts; never actually seen it (but I don't doubt their validity and would personally upgrade).

I have a random question but I have to ask. How much do you pay for insurance on your cobra?

well when i was driving it last summer i didnt have any of my other cars in my name so it was the only thing i was insuring and it was 575 for six months....right now its on fire and theft cause its setting in the garage and the lincoln is what im driving when there isnt a bunch of snow on the ground and for both the lincoln and the cobra on strorage it costs me 340... i dunno what its going to cost me this year with both being insured. the mount is in my moms name so they cover that while im in college
