JWerner2 February 11th, 2009, 01:40 PM Ok so when you cant figure out the problem on your own what two choices do you pick, a dealership or a local family type shop?
Of course I need to take the thing in for service otherwise like I said to another member its just one giant die cast model so I would also like to question why you choose the dealership or the small timer.
SPSully February 11th, 2009, 01:43 PM <-------- this guy!
JWerner2 February 11th, 2009, 01:44 PM Besides yourself:p

02LSE96LSC91SE84TC February 11th, 2009, 01:46 PM you should have put
would burn the car to the ground before I let either touch my car
I would have voted for that

Aquabrit February 11th, 2009, 01:49 PM As 02asdfghjkl said. I'll let her burn!!!
tubbyLS6 February 11th, 2009, 01:50 PM me or a small shop F the dealer rip off
JWerner2 February 11th, 2009, 01:52 PM As 02asdfghjkl said. I'll let her burn!!!
Yeah, I know but Im in no situation to fix this thing myself. I don't have the equipment to even properly diagnose it and I live in a apartment:mad:
Rich88LSC February 11th, 2009, 01:53 PM Stealership but only because it's still under warranty. The Mark I do some things myself if I'm to lazy to get dirty/it's to dam cold outside or it's something I'm not comfortable doing(i.e. gear swap) I have a mechanic I trust.
Angel12 February 11th, 2009, 02:31 PM Well i usually like to read up on the problem and then run to my buddies shop and get the code or let him service it as i am to scared to put my own hands in their might as well let someone with proper training do it. This goes for major things as for small things myself
Aquabrit February 11th, 2009, 02:59 PM Yeah, I know but Im in no situation to fix this thing myself. I don't have the equipment to even properly diagnose it and I live in a apartment:mad:
Im assuming this is the mystery no start issue needing fixed.
Yup, apts. suck for car work
I guess in your case either find a reputable independent shop who is familiar with the LS or find some other (knowledgeable) LS'ers close by that could help by swapping sensors / other parts etc. Keep the dealership in mind as a last resort.
bklene50 February 11th, 2009, 03:04 PM The mechanic that retired from the Lincoln dealership here and does it out of his garage now that lives about 10 minutes away. :)
pagluy February 11th, 2009, 03:15 PM I take mine to the dealership for warranty things. Everything else I have a mechanic who I love and is awesome. And he loves my car, which is a super plus.
2000 LS February 11th, 2009, 03:48 PM Back when I bought it I took it in for anything since it was covered but now that all that is over I have a mechanic that I trust and he knows alot about them. I have been dealing with him for awhile so I trust him more than the dealership that I bought it at, long story.
RollinLS February 11th, 2009, 04:29 PM Dealer. Still under warranty. Dealer for basic manage too. $20 oil changes.
cwhorley February 11th, 2009, 04:29 PM Dealer when it was under warranty but NEVER again. It hasn't happened yet but if I had a problem I couldn't fix I'd take it to this guy that is about 4 miles off of any major road. All my friends use him. Just one example of how this guy works was when my friend took his truck in with broken AC he said it was some kind of simple thing and charged $20. I can't see a dealership coming close to that. Same guy's motor blew recently and he replaced it for $950. Runs great.
97stscaddy February 11th, 2009, 05:02 PM If I can't fix it it don't get fixed. :p
But in the extreme case that there is a problem which I cant figure out and I need a control module tested I think I'd take it to the dealer. If they can't figure it out I tell them, NO pay for you! Next!
JWerner2 February 11th, 2009, 05:05 PM Dealer. Still under warranty. Dealer for basic manage too. $20 oil changes.
What coverage? I had the 75k mile or 7years everything warranty.
NYC LS8 February 11th, 2009, 05:17 PM C - None of the above
Unless it's covered under some kind of extended factory warranty, then A. And even then I buy my own parts and put them in with the help of NickT.
xarruda89x February 11th, 2009, 09:31 PM Dealer - Warrenty for another 3 years.
exceptionaLS February 11th, 2009, 09:51 PM Dealer because I dont really know anybody....any one in the NY NJ area that thinks they could work on my LS for a reasonable fee is welcome to work on my ls. Yeah, thats a real indirect way of asking if anybody would be willing to work on my car....
PetesSweets86 February 11th, 2009, 09:55 PM You get what you pay for...I'd rather have someone who knows my car work on it...if I got a Ex-Ford motors guy in my neighborhood or at a mom/pop shop...I'd let him touch my car...but I am not doing any jiffy lube :q:q:q:q or retards that never knew an LS even existed :P
WhoBeDaPlaya February 11th, 2009, 10:37 PM Me first, then independent mechanic and then a dealership (only as a last resort, eg. for programming fobs and my new FEM).
LEOV5 February 11th, 2009, 11:36 PM For fixes, the dealership, it's still got 20K of warranty. As for servicing, I take to my local mechanic. This guys is great.
The Hotness February 12th, 2009, 06:46 AM WHAT!? Who fixes there cars?
I never have any problems with my LS..
Hahahaha!
Buckets and buckets of problems..
oandtmaster February 12th, 2009, 08:10 AM Dealer because I dont really know anybody....any one in the NY NJ area that thinks they could work on my LS for a reasonable fee is welcome to work on my ls. Yeah, thats a real indirect way of asking if anybody would be willing to work on my car....
or anyone in SE Pennsylvania...
rainjacks February 12th, 2009, 09:45 AM What if you have a buddy that works for a dealership who helps you on the side? Not saying that I do. I'm just saying what if?
JWerner2 February 12th, 2009, 09:51 AM :D What if there was more than two options in the poll?
Im not saying there is, but what if?:D
glanga February 12th, 2009, 11:04 AM Mine was kind of a mix of both. Bought the car from a Philly dealership that I had a friend who was a head mechanic/team supervisor there. The car had body damage and was repainted but I never bothered to check because he ok'd it and I trusted him. Well I found this out when I went to sell it because no one would touch it.
I confronted him and he admitted he knew but said he thought I'd keep the car for a much longer time so that the body damage would sort of cancel out. I ended up keeping it and whatever work I needed he did for free including labor and parts and got me a rental car, even after the warranty expired. I guess he was my small timer at the dealership.
fissel1ls February 12th, 2009, 08:37 PM I am not mechanically inclined to repair the LS on my own.
Luckily, the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in my hometown is a third-generation family-operated organization. They are very fair and reasonable. Probably the only dealership that I would trust taking my car to. They know me by name and I am provided with a nice loaner car while my car is in the shop. Also, the dealership is right down the street from my house, so convenience is a plus.
toomanyfumes February 13th, 2009, 05:37 PM We have a good L/M dealer near my house also. I also know an independent guy who always worked on my T-Bird. He does a lot of work for local used car dealers and he told me he's see a lot of LS's. I've had no problems in the seven months I've had my LS but I'll let him work on it when I need something done.
neo4you February 16th, 2009, 12:58 PM never could not figure out a problem on a car
So could you try to figure out my problem?

lincolnx2 February 16th, 2009, 08:17 PM Dealership does everything.
RollinLS February 17th, 2009, 01:24 AM What coverage? I had the 75k mile or 7years everything warranty.
I purchased an aftermarket warranty right after I bought the LS. 6yrs or 75,000 miles. I will run out of time before I run out of miles. It was bumper to bumper. Covered everything.
The Ford dealer I go to kicks ass. They are the OLNY reason I bought my MKZ. There service department is second to none. They have pushed things through on my warranty that shouldn't have been covered. I had a mass-air flow censor go bad. They told me the KKM intake would have voided out the warranty. The dealer just forgot:rolleyes: to mention it to the warranty company that its was there.:D They get the idea on how to keep a customer and make them want to comeback.

Both a great aftermarket warranty and dealership! Wow how rare!
RollinLS February 17th, 2009, 11:49 PM Auffenberg Ford in Belleville Illinios. They kick ass. As sson as the MKZ is paod off. I am trading in my Durango for a Navigator. Have all Lincolns and one dealer to work on them.
