i was just absently mindedly tappingish on the shifter button while driving, and it popped off....i managed to get it in a position where i can shift, but it will fall out if i dont watch it. Anyone have a problem with this before? Is this somthing i HAVE TO take to my dealer? Im sure they will try to charge me $5000 for it

Buy a used on off ebay. They are usually pretty cheap.

if you take it to the dealer, they will order you a new one, and we all know that wont be cheap...especially if yours isnt black.

To install a new one, you will have to remove the center console, and pop out the small "staple" looking clip that is inserted into the forward face of the shift handle.

The problem is the button is plastic, and after it rubs against the steel of the shifter shaft the plastic gets rubbed away and the button falls out.

You can find one on ebay from time to time, or you can call Max and order a new one......1-800-866-1520 ext. 236. :Beer

Thats for a Gen 2(chrome button), but I believe it will work. The handle itself is a little flatter , and not as "contoured" on a gen 2. But I cannot honestly say for sure if it will work or not.

Anyone?....Bueller?
