where is the catch code on 1998 mark vIIIrussofour December 2nd, 2008, 01:35 PM I would like to order a performance chip from licolnmotorsports but I am not sure were the computer is or what nimbers are the catch code can someone help.. thanks Robert kustomizingkid December 2nd, 2008, 02:21 PM Open the drivers side door and kneel down and look under the dash. You should be able to see the computer, its a silver box. Pull it down and the code is by the plug in, should be a combo of numbers and lets 5 digits or so I believe... CMBA0 is mine I think.... vr4 December 2nd, 2008, 04:04 PM with a 98 youll be better off ordering a tuner like an SCT. kustomizingkid December 2nd, 2008, 05:11 PM I would agree with the above 100%... SCT ftw! russofour December 2nd, 2008, 08:09 PM is that the name of the company and how do I find them.Robert russofour December 2nd, 2008, 10:41 PM I have put a cold air tube on it,adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 2.5 inch pipes with magna flow mufflers, 125hp nos kit and serviced everything with lucus full synthetic and was looking for a chip or programmer that would get me more horsepower and make that tranny shift better thats why I thought there chip would be greatbecause they state that it will take the 90% slippage out but I am open to all suggestions.. robert XLRVIII December 3rd, 2008, 10:57 AM I use the SCT pro racer package and an Xcal 2 on my 98 LSC. I didn't take 90% of the slip out of the trans, I took 100% of the slip out. Over the last two weeks I drove 1600 miles, on two seperate trips and got 28MPG on the first leg of the trip and on the downleg trip home I got 29MPG. this is my own custom tune not a canned tune from an online vendor. kustomizingkid December 3rd, 2008, 10:59 AM I would order a tune from one of the mail order SCT tuners. Lonnie (http://www.blueovalchips.com/) Dennis (https://www.reinhartperformance.com/index.htm) Torrie (http://www.fastpartsnetwork.com/) The three above all sell mail order tunes using SCT software and tuners/chips. XLRVIII December 3rd, 2008, 11:00 AM CMBA0 is mine I think.... BTC0 is yours and mine.. CMBA0 isn't a catch code, CMBA0 is the "STRATEGY" that the BTC0 catch code uses. CMBA0 goes with btc0 (last digit is always a number) CMBA1 is the MXL3 catch codes strategy if I remember correctly. I have an xcal with a CMBA1 strategy from dennis reinhart, and I flashed it over my CMBA0 strategy and it ran just fine. I used this for testing, and comparison to my custom tune. I drove the reinhart tune for about a week before flashing back to my custom tune. I like MINE better, but that is a personal preference more than an actual comparison. Rich88LSC December 3rd, 2008, 12:36 PM I agree with getting an Xcal. A dyno tune would serve you better especially with mods. But a mail order tune will help just as much as a mail order chip plus will give you tuning options and is easier to change your tune for gear changes/more mods. russofour December 3rd, 2008, 12:49 PM Hey thanks for all your input and info keep it coming if you have more..Robert kustomizingkid December 3rd, 2008, 01:35 PM BTC0 is yours and mine.. I get those two confused... :D ILLS December 3rd, 2008, 10:00 PM If you have a 19997 Mark VIII your teartag catch code will be one of these: RKK0 RKK6 BLX0 BLX6 GGW0 GGW1 In the RKK and BLX series they go from 0-6 so there is actually RKK1, RKK2, and so on. For purpose of brevity I will only post the first and last codes in a catch code series. I hope this helps anyone who is trying to look for the code on their car but doesn't kow which numbers are which. Sometimes there are multiple alphanumeric codes on a PCM that tend to confuse people newer to tuning. XLRVIII December 4th, 2008, 09:06 AM ILLS, do you still use or have a working copy of 2.9? ONEBADMK8 December 4th, 2008, 11:22 AM Call me up we have the programmer, the Sniper Special Forces. We talked about it on the phone. CHeapest pricing on it in the USA. ILLS December 4th, 2008, 05:24 PM ILLS, do you still use or have a working copy of 2.9? Oh gosh no. I transitioned away from 2.9 a long time ago. Adv 3.0 is much better. XLRVIII December 5th, 2008, 09:20 AM Oh gosh no. I transitioned away from 2.9 a long time ago. Adv 3.0 is much better. I use a combo of both.. I found that sometimes the speedlimiter wont "go away" in 3.0, but in 2.9 it doesnt screw up like it does in 3.0. turning off the rear 02's sometimes doesnt work in 3.0 either, but does work in my 2.9 You dont have a 2nd gen mark 8 2.9 database to compare stock values with do you? any catch code will do.. | |||||
