new 4.6 1996 complete is it worth itDYNOTEK November 22nd, 2008, 04:47 PM found a new complete fac. 1996 engine guy wants 2200.00 saw motor it is new BAD97LSC November 22nd, 2008, 05:26 PM seems like alot for a 12 year old engine, if its new, its been sitting for 12 years? i'd be worried about all the internals, possible rust from never running, oil not getting pumped thru it, seals all dried up, not worth 2,200 to me but i'm not the one who is interested in it! DYNOTEK November 22nd, 2008, 05:34 PM from what i was told the engine was for a hot rod project and has been stored in race shop no internal rust he is willing to let me use his bore scop to inspect if seals are bad is this a large undertaking to replace sbcaprice305 November 22nd, 2008, 06:06 PM I'd be happier buying a 50k-100k engine than a new one thats been sitting for 12 years. These engines last as long as the 2 valves (200k+. If you ever decide to sell your car you'll NEVER get back what you put in reguarding that motor. You could build a hp 4.6 dohc for that much if you know how to rebuild. The modulers scare me though for some reason. I know how to rebuild many but lack proper tools. DYNOTEK November 22nd, 2008, 06:10 PM thanks for the info will keep looking NateRW21 November 22nd, 2008, 06:37 PM DO NOT buy that engine... you're getting taken to town!! As SBC said... you could do a performance rebuild for that much provided you've got a good starting point (good block/heads). BAD97LSC November 22nd, 2008, 08:00 PM i have a bare block if you want to start from scratch! unity November 22nd, 2008, 08:12 PM Non-use is worse than abuse. Joeychgo November 22nd, 2008, 08:56 PM I would expect that for less than $2200 you could completely rebuild any 4.6 driller November 22nd, 2008, 09:19 PM Depends whether you're talking rebuilding to stock or upgraded and if you're including labor. Having said that, I paid twice that for a 500 cu.in. rebuild many years ago. Roadboss November 23rd, 2008, 12:31 AM Are you really sure it is a "new" 96 engine, and not just a newer engine? topher5150 November 23rd, 2008, 12:56 AM i got a junk yard donation for about $1300 with 30,000 miles.......then there was the price of installation :( sbcaprice305 November 23rd, 2008, 11:49 AM i got a junk yard donation for about $1300 with 30,000 miles.......then there was the price of installation :( ouch, thats alot. DYNOTEK November 23rd, 2008, 03:08 PM so what i get is a junkyard motor is that the best route kustomizingkid November 23rd, 2008, 04:22 PM I would go find a decent motor from a junkyard too... The mod motors don't go bad unless you don't take care of them. I'd have no hesitaion putting a 100k motor in my car... they just keep running and running... lol Staffamerica74 November 23rd, 2008, 08:09 PM I dont think you would go wrong with that new 96 motor.... just make sure its primed before trying to start it. Thats just my opinion tho. For 2500 I think you can get a good deal on a built 4.6 tho kustomizingkid November 23rd, 2008, 08:26 PM I just don't know why you would spend that much when you could buy a motor for $500ish or less if you look around and have a motor good for 100+k. unity November 23rd, 2008, 08:27 PM If I were to even buy a motor I would consider newer options, like an 03/04. Of course that opens a can of worms when it comes to install, sorta. sbcaprice305 November 23rd, 2008, 08:29 PM http://car-part.com/ would be your best bet. i ran a 44094 zip and got tons of engines in your area. I beleive all 93-98 will fit though i only searched for 96. kustomizingkid November 23rd, 2008, 08:30 PM I just thought of something... Is this a complete complete motor IMRC's, fuel rail, injectors, etc...? Or is it a long block, heads down? topher5150 November 23rd, 2008, 09:21 PM ouch, thats alot. they also found a SOHC motor with a Ford Racing twin screw supercharger (500 hp) for about the same price, figured it would cost to convert every thing LOL kustomizingkid November 23rd, 2008, 09:32 PM they also found a SOHC motor with a Ford Racing twin screw supercharger (500 hp) for about the same price, figured it would cost to convert every thing LOL Put an SOHC in a Mark... lol topher5150 November 23rd, 2008, 09:37 PM Put an SOHC in a Mark... lol 500 HP blown SOHC LOL kustomizingkid November 23rd, 2008, 09:43 PM I don't matter... its still a SOHC..... That motor just isn't as refined, doesn't feel the same, and it can never ever sound the same! DYNOTEK November 24th, 2008, 04:20 PM ended up with the motor it is new and perfect complete with harness i will install this weekend he has 1 more and 1 with test time on it 3 hrs he said BAD97LSC November 24th, 2008, 06:56 PM i wish i had your kinda money! kustomizingkid November 24th, 2008, 06:57 PM Woot! I bought 3 Marks for the price of your motor! BAD97LSC November 24th, 2008, 07:11 PM i paid $200 for this one, plus 70 for a tow, broken ball joint was all that was wrong with it! i got my money back in scrap cats and wheels lol! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd281/jamies98lsc/woops001.jpg unity November 24th, 2008, 07:54 PM I am very much amused that you left the blinker lamps in place. :) DYNOTEK November 24th, 2008, 08:13 PM love my car nothing but the best for here unity November 24th, 2008, 08:18 PM I just wish I knew who was cornering the used part market on Washer fluid tanks...... hmmm.... DYNOTEK November 24th, 2008, 09:24 PM if any one is interested same guy has 07 3650 trans new said if we do a group buy he will sell for 650 with hyd tob he has 9 left pm if anyone is interested BAD97LSC November 24th, 2008, 11:29 PM I just wish I knew who was cornering the used part market on Washer fluid tanks...... hmmm.... some day i'll get big bucks for those, they might be worth 10 bucks some day! DYNOTEK November 25th, 2008, 12:51 PM just trying to help if i can do not mean to offend anyone kustomizingkid November 25th, 2008, 03:25 PM I don't think anyone is offended.... Just something to realize around here is that most people who buy these cars aren't rolling in money, hell a lot of people spent less on their Marks than you just did on your new motor.... that kind of stuff isn't in a lot of peoples budgets. turborich November 25th, 2008, 11:48 PM I don't think anyone is offended....
