New member and 1st post. just bought a 98 conti from a friend...low miles, great condition, and a wonderful ride. has decent power for a large car. Always been a GM man though so I know next to nothing about 4.6L engine family - other than there seems to be quite a few versions. this one says DOHC 32V intech, published 260hp. is this a good motor? how does it differ from 4.6L's in Mk8, mustangs, crown vic etc? does anyone do any exhaust mods on these? thx for the help.

Welcome! Most likly you will have to build your own. Or in other words. Get the main peicecs. Muffler(s), Y, X, H - pipe, tips, etc. Bring them peices to a muffler shop. Have them do the rest. . .

Your motor has the same heads and internals as the Mark VIII, Cobra Stang, etc... The Conti block is FWD though. The tranny is AX4N transaxle, which is used on Taurus/Sables. Get a shift kit from Baumman, or B&M to shorten the shifts and prolong the life of the tansaxle. Don't beat the hell out of it too much until you do so...

Move that HP rating up by moding the exhaust and getting a chip. If you've got the $$$, port and polish those heads (Called "B"-heads) and the intake as well. Look around LVC for some tech articles for removing the airbox silencer...

thanks much for the info. exhaust seems the cheapest next step. any recommendations on free flow mufflers that are simple fit and not overly loud?
