Adding a bass blocker to 5x7's ?

I'll be adding my 3 12" type r's with a modded mtx 1501d and need all the high's i can get. The question i have is since the oem amp is internally x-overed for midbass only for the 5x7's ( The 5x7 hole has pioneer rev series 6.5's) if i add a "bass blocker" to the front 6.5's will it then only produce high frequencies.

just curious.

Those are passive crossovers, basically any bass signal below whatever frequency range you pick will be blocked. Your tweeters won't be distorting trying to reproduce bass signals they can't handle. It allows you to run more power to the speakers too. Just pick the correct crossover.

If you are running the REVs ditch the factory amp period. They can hold way more power than it can put out(they have great mid bass with sum power). Also I would put I would put 6x9 REVs in the rear(not hard to do). You can also cut the rear deck and add another pair once you remove the factory amp. I had a similar set up in my 97 Tbird show car. I will try to scan my pics and add them later.

Sounds like it's time for a complete rewire of your system.

ok, so if i run the correct blocker than the factory x-over will be eliminated to that point?

I do like the rev's. I had 6.5's up front and fosgate 3way 6x9's as rear fill in my marquis using a fosgate 800x4 amp. It put out 100rmsx4 @4ohm and 200rms@2ohm. I want to keep this car as clean as possible reguarding wireing and what not cuase i've never had a car that hasn't been torn up from installs every 5 months. If i simply add my mtx and r's And add alittle more highs i think i'll be good. If It ends up sounding like ass than i might go another route.

I'm thinking of cutting out a section of the rear package tray and firing the r's upwards into the cabin. I'll have to relocate the oem amp though. Or i'll just use 2 r's and place them on the sides of the amp facing up. Idk.

You dont have to rerun the wires Just tie into the factory system at the amp easy to do.

Yea i was thinking about that. Though how would you put 8 speaker wires in a 4 ch. Also The tweets are x-overed in the amp. Wound't i need a high pass filter for each one?

bass blockers will not change the factory x-over points. it will only cut base on the already x-overed signal

If you buy a componet set for the front and back it will come with a crossover. All you would have to do is run wires that already exist to the crossover and from the X-over to the speakers. Easy to do

I have a pioneer w/5v preouts that is staying in the marquis unless the lincoln ends up sounding like crap. Have a nice alpine too but thats collecting dust and will probably get sold soon.

I would like to keep the factory cd in this car. I've gone bananas in my marquis along with the rest off my old cars and would like to simplify things in this one. I really don't like how aftermarket units look in the marks with the dd anyways. If i were to get a new h/u i'd go with a 6.5 dd touchscreen so it would mesh better.

all this talk and yet no one has posted that the "woofers" are wired in series on each side and the tweets are all wired individually. so when ever anyone tries to add/change speakers (in the cabin, not subs) the outcome is crap. ford basically made it so in order to upgrade anything you gotta gut it all and start over
