First off I have a 1994 Mark VIII with about 140K. This light has been coming on for awhile now asked on here one time before but still have not got this resolved. The Code is 214 cylinder identification circuit failure! I have replaced the Cam position sensor, Crank position sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, and the IAC ( THAT WAS FUN!!! ). I have Checked the wires from the plugs until they go into the harness they look good. Also the light will not come on when the engine is idling but if you rev it up to 1500 - 2500 rpm the light comes on will go off when it comes to a idle if you rev it to 3500 rpm you get no light. I would like to get this tracked down but will i be hurting the car if i drive it in the meantime?

Did you reset the computer after you installed them?

Ya I have when i did the IAC which was the last thing i put on the bat was unhooked for about a week. So that should have done it.

its been my experiance a good idle and a flash under load is a misfire, have you checked plugs? wires? coil packs?

Ya the wires look like they have been replaced by a previous owner they are motorcraft wires but they are blue so i don't think they are factory. I put plugs in at about 100k you think that its time to change them again? Don't know about the coil packs how would i check these or do i just have to change them. I have tried a different ECM out of a friends 94 mark (he no longer has it) and got the light so that's ruled out could it be the ignition control module?

You probably have a bad wire in the cam sensor harness..it's quite common actually.

CID error is the cam sensor code, but it really doesnt mean the cam sensor is bad..per say, just that no communication with the cam sensor is found.

Could be either the cam sensor or the wire harness..
luckily there are only two wires for the cam sensor, so it shouldn't be "that hard" to track down.

those two wires go from the cam sensor TO the PCM but my guess is the problem exists in the engine harness loom rather than under the dash by the PCM.

Ya that's what i think when the car is running you can unplug the cam sensor and there is no difference in the way the engine runs! but the wires from the plug look ok but there is only about 12in of them showing before they go into a big loom of wires does not look fun. What values should the cam sensor be putting out so i can back probe it?

Has any one had this problem??
