92lsc January 26th, 2005, 09:06 AM I was searching on the web and came across a mark VII convertable. Apparently a company was hired to make 7 or so convertables. I will try to find it and post the pic of it. The person was selling it for something around 17,000. Does anyone have any more info about the mark VII convertables? How many were actually made. I am also looking to find out how make carriage top mark vii's were made. Those are also hard to find. Mike. FL
Jibit January 26th, 2005, 09:18 AM are you sure you don't mean the 8? I never heard of 7 made into a convertible!

katz_blk90se January 26th, 2005, 10:58 AM Every once in a while (like 5 - 6 months), a convertible Mark VII will show up on ebay. The one I remember had a buy it now price of 10,000. The bidding got up to 7,700 without the reserve being met. It had a beautiful black exterior with a red interior. Pretty sharp looking ride. Here is the URL for
a 1984 Mark VII that is for sale. Apparently there were around 20 or so that were done....Katz

katz_blk90se January 26th, 2005, 02:02 PM From 1984 Motor Trend magazine, Lincoln Mark VII Convertible's were produced by Coach Builders Limited of Florida. This was available through Lincoln-Mercury dealers and they also did other cars like the Cadillac, BMW, etc. Still looking for more info and numbers....Katz
92lsc January 26th, 2005, 03:28 PM I am also interested in finding some mark vii's with carriage tops,
Sifrino3 January 26th, 2005, 04:59 PM They are beautiful. . .

...
Katz.
The elderly couple that owned it were apparently bought out by the rug company. I've seen this car advertised for sale three times and the highest was well over $20,000.00 and the lowest was like $13,000.00 and yes ... I was tempted. Bud's asking price will NOT attract me.
Currently, it's a BUYERS' market. My HIGH offer for that car would be eight thousand and that's only if it were mint for it's mileage.
Whenever you come across pictures, call or e-mail me and I'll post them.

OldSchool1 January 30th, 2005, 07:44 PM That is an 88/89 four page brochure. What is it's origin?
katz_blk90se January 30th, 2005, 07:52 PM Its from a series called "Hot Cars". Pretty cool item.
Here is the front and back side.....Katz
OldSchool1 January 30th, 2005, 10:00 PM Thanks for the pictures and the resource. They need to be scanned for your fans :)
What are the comparison cars?
katz_blk90se January 31st, 2005, 09:03 AM The original pictures were way too large to upload. When I reduced their size, it made them fairly illegible as far as fine print. The rival cars were the BMW 635 CSI and the Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe.
OldSchool1 February 4th, 2005, 08:01 PM I've located the pictures of yet another convert. This time fom someone's archives on the net from 2002. Yes ... I want one.

chagan February 16th, 2005, 03:02 PM I am getting my father in laws Mark VII, which has a carriage top. I was wondering- I kinda like the look of the hard tops better, is it a big process to remove the carriage top ie, is it just an add on over a regular hard top? Thanks in advance.

Here's OldSchool1 (http://www.lscclub.org/cars/oldschool1) with her carriage top TEMPORARILY removed:

What you don't see are the 20 or so penetrations in the body that held the top to the car. Also, the tube of adheasive that was used. So if you're an expert at patching holes in body work and then refinishing them then this shouldn't be much of a job for you. Else, do like the rest of us and just PIMP THAT THANG!

chagan February 22nd, 2005, 09:25 AM Thanks OldSchool, I'll be getting the car this weekend and will post some before pics. 2 other quick questions for you, do you have the same problem with your headlights as other Ford/Lincoln/Mercury cars of that era- do the lenses cloud up? I have that problem on my '93 Cougar XR7 which have plastic lenses. I don't know if the VII's lenses are glass or not. Also, who made the driving lights, one of mine is out (had it looked at the last time I had the car, and it is a wiring or switch problem) I will be getting both of them replaced and want to know your recommendations. Thanks!

Test both bulbs for continuity. If you don't know how, ask somebody with a multimeter. It's free. If a bulb tests bad, replace both bulbs with the cheapest ones you can find. Hopefully that will be your only problem. If not and the bulbs blow up then you're only out $5.00 as apposed to the $30.00 blue-star-blind-your-neighbors-make-your-car-look-Japanese ones.
Anything past that, you'll have to ask a real mechanic. I'm just some eccentric guy on the internet.

[QUOTE=OldSchool1]Yes. See my tech article (http://www.lscclub.org/tech/headLightLens.htm) at: http://www.lscclub.org/tech/headLightLens.htm
Great article, I have had great success with using Easy Off oven cleaner as a first step. Just spray on and let sit for a few minutes and you will see the muck sliding off. Repeat 2 or more times before your move on to the wax and buff steps. This also works internally, but you have to rinse out the lens with water to get the Easy Off out and let it dry thoroughly before you reassemble or you will have water drops in the housing for years. I've also heard of people warming the assembly in an oven at about 150-175 degrees for 10 minutes or so until the lens glue loosens and you can pull off the lens from the assembly to get to cleaning and polishing the inside. Haven't tried this myself yet as I'll end up melting the S.O.B.s

The light was tested for continuity and there was no current- that is where we are now. I wasn't looking for trouble shooting techniques, I was just wondering who manufactured the OEM driving lights- Bosch, Hella etc. because they're a bit banged up anyway so I thought on replacing them and then trouble shooting the electrical issue with me Fluke :wrench

Thanks Dude.
Read this article (http://www.techguys.ca/howto/multimeter.html) on continuity at: http://www.techguys.ca/howto/multimeter.html and then test the BULBS out of the vehicle for CONTINUITY.
Then reread my post.

Thanks OldSchool- let me rephrase my response: the light socket was tested for current with no go. And by driving light, I mean the ones under the front bumper, AKA fog lights (althought I always refer to amber ones as fog lights and clear ones as driving lights) Sorry I wasn't clear on that. Thanks again.
OldSchool1 February 23rd, 2005, 05:14 PM Fog lights? hehehehe WhyDidn'tYouSaySo?!?!
There are TONS of posts on Lincoln Mark VII fog lights here. If you have juice at one and not the other then you need only check a short run of wire as they are spliced at the harness (on my 1990 that is).
