This is my last tire thread I swear to God. So, what is the vote, should I go with the stock size 235/50 or the 245/45? How much of a difference will that make on my speedometer?

I'm looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus.

The difference is negligible. Stick with OEM, they fit our cars better. Places like Discount and Tirerack can get expensive. Try here:

Discount will meet any advertised price. You also get the benefit of being able to have a local shop fix any problems that may arise.

True, discount will match but I have bought from them before, no problems and Discount Tire either A) charges shipping or B) charges tax to me since I live in Texas, which is gay. Most tires have free shipping on that site and there is NO tax. Both Discount Tire and Discount Tire Directs website has been really slooow lately, kind of annoying.

And why wouldn't a local shop fix any problems that may arise if I bought my tires from that site? That makes no sense.

I think that a 245/45 will be cheaper because it's a more common size and you'll have a better selection.

I can get tires through TireRack for less than anywhere else (they are headquartered across the street from one of my company's facilities). And yes, the 245s are less expensive.

255? Really? Will that work on the stock 17" rim?

The other thing the 245s have going for them is the Michelins I am looking at have better performance ratings in the 245 size than the 235 size. Which makes sense due to the wider contact patch and slightly shorter sidewalls.

Is this what you have? I'd love to see some pictures or hear from someone who has done this.

Go with the stock size. 245/45's are good but if you have the stock wheels there is no reason to play with tire size at all especially if you are at the stock ride height.


There is no reason at all for a wider tire when you only have such a narrow wheel. It does nothing! Cars that handle better do to the width of tires have wide wheels in general! In the end it hits your wallet and it ruins the tires!
