My 2000 LS has the electric self-dimming rear view mirror with no compass. It dims itself fine, but only about half the mirror dims. Is there any way to fix this short of replacing the whole mirror? Does Lincoln make a manual flip-down old-school day/night mirror to replace it? It would be far less likely to break again...

Mine's just dead period... but I dont' see any reason you can't get one from another car and snap it in. As long as the mount is the same, a mirror is a mirror.

common issue - the 'gel' inside seems to loose the conductiveness over time.

Okay I about had a heart attack there. I checked fordparts.com and they have a gin-u-wine Lincoln electrochromatic for $79.21 or you can get a Lincoln old-school day/night mirror for $17.82. Swish!

Bone yards man... you can get all kinds of good stuff if you have some cool people around...
I wouldn't mind having the compass though... I'd just like to see it go nuts once during a spin in the snow!
