Changing lighting

Ok, I'm a big noob with it comes to DIY jobs, now, i have to replace the license plate lights .. Is that changable from the trunk lid, remove that matting? Or i can do it from the outside? Because one of that lights that is out that protector or w/e its called, that outside of it that clear piece.. Is loose, i think its from my sub in my trunk :p So once and i while i would have to go outside slide it to the right so it can stay in place, thus why im asking if i have to go in the trunk to replace the bulb.

Ok next is the 3rd E Brake light, trunk or pop open that grey cover? I'm also thinking of replacing that factory bulb with a nice set of LEDs. Lookin like this ..

Think i can pull that off? No one on here has done that yet

Thanks.

Remove that covering and you can get them out. You'll have to press IN on one side of the connector and pull it off the bulb at the same time. After that, twist the bulb out. To put the LEDs in is reverse of removal. Kind of hard to explain and kind of a PITA, but you'll see what I mean when you go to do it.

I knew to you where going to be the first person to comment, lmao :)

Thanks, anything on the 3rd brake light? I think i have to ask AutoZone if they make them to fit the 3rd brake light, if not, that blows.

To replace third brake light, push down and pull back on the cover from the interior.

^ +1 and yes you can easily find LEDs like the ones shown in that pic in the size needed for the third light.

Mine is loose! Is it the drivers side or the passenger side?

drivers side

Why is the LS prone to the same exact parts failing? lol!

Like its always the driver side license plate light housing, its always the rear drivers side window regulator.,..etc,..etc...lol!

August 8th, 2008, 11:35 AM
No. I have been thinking about just gluing the thing in but I'm sure that might lead to some issues down the line.

Ok, so i went to AutoZone today and they said they don't carry it for the LS ..

So where can i get that exact size for the 3rd brake light? I don't even know the size of it, i did take out that cover from the 3rd brake light, wasnt bad.

They should:confused: , try Advanced. If you don't have any luck with that just get some off of cheese-bay or superbrightleds.com

damn, i knew i should've stopped by there too, It was right next door to AutoZone, lmao.

But i was like, if autozone doesnt have them, why would advanced, but I'm gonna go now and check it out since i didnt put back the grey cover.

Advanced has lots of little things like that where Autozone dont.

You need load resistors or the message center will give a false bulb out indication and you might end up with hyper flash.

Problem, so my car is off no lights on what so ever, i went to get something in the trunk and the 3rd brake light with the LEDs, have a very dim light to them, you think its because i've been driving all day? because i have .. But I'm going to give it an hour to rest outside in the driveway, since im not going anywhere else tonight, at least i dont plan to, but hopefully it will be completely shut off.

My license plate lights do that too. They go off eventually. Don't worry about it.

Oh alright, NYC i orderd those LEDs for the license plate too, UPS tracking says, It'll be in by Tuesday, can't wait.

the dimming is normal. all my interior lights as stay dimly lit for a while after shut off. the weird part is that my license plate led's do not dim, they turn off completely. go figure...

As simple as it is I love the look of my LED tag lights. Looks so crisp, clear and clean. I remember when I first saw the Lexus' that had them passing me on the Highway one night and just though "hmmmm for some reason that looks cool".

Rick it is very weird. My interior LED's don't dim but one of my bumper lens LED's do. It actually stays on for a while. My tag lights don't dim but stay on but not as long as that one bumper LED.

I forget what it is that does it but I am sure someone here like Owlman knows.
