Polling Mark VIII Owners
I'd change the questions a little bit:
-year/model
-male or female and age
-miles you drive per day and what type of driving (city/highway)
-what you like best about the MarkVIII
-what you dislike the most about the MarkVIII
-rating of your Mark : use a 5 star * system, 1 being poor (would never buy again), 3 average and 5 best.
'93 and '98: The 2 best years.
Somewhere north of 40.
150miles/day... 20/80 city/highway mix. 28mpg highway

-Suburban driving-30 miles during a school week, and avg in summer is 120 (one day i did over 600 arround town)
-First, its sexy, its a Powerful V8, handles like a god, easy to control, high top speed...and allows confidance to get it up there, the interior is to die for.
- i dislike the problems with the trans, the suspension, the look of the body(parts of it), and the 91 octane it needs
-i give it a 4, but thats just MY car...i WILL buy another mk8 again.

I'd give it a 5. This is my dreamcar- everyone else's nightmare :gr_hail:

- Doesn't get driven much during the week. Maybe 40 miles. Weekends, it depends what's going on.

That Lincolns and Caddies have great preformance!!!
That Lincolns and Caddies are afforable after the old people take good care of them and then get rid of them!!!
Then we get to have fun with them!!!
1wykdmk8 January 20th, 2005, 09:14 AM The older the Mark VIII the cheaper it is. If you spend the same money to modify a Mark VIII, as some of the kids do a Honder or such, you could have a KILLER performing/handling Mark VIII. IMHO that is! :Beer

It's too heavy and the suspension isn't as racing tight as I'd like it to be
I would rate my Mark a 4. High chance of re-purchase if I had an opportunity

Hey lincoln_mk8, what's up? We need more members in the Central Plains chapter (hint hint). Maybe if we get enough members we can plan some kind of regional meet in the future. :Beer
Welcome to the site, Red_Baran!
"not coming with a supercharger and gears stock"
I know what you mean Madmarkman. But if it came like that stock, it'd cost a heck of a lot more to purchase, not to mention the insurance would be a lot higher. So in a sense I'm glad it didn't. I hope to do these upgrades in the future, and the insurance company will never have to know ;). :steering

Thanks, 1wykdmk8,
I forgot to mention that before my current '97 LSC, I owned an Aurora, and prior to that a 1990 LSC that was going strong at 200K when some idiot in a Mercedes ran a light and totaled it.! The Aurora was very nice, but it was definitely NOT an LSC. It had great toys, and the engine was smooth and never gave problems, but just was 50 HP short. And although no car is perfect, and will need SOME repair and upkeep - I think my LSC is as close as you can get, all things considered. On almost ALL of the websites you will see people crying and complaining about repairs, costs, etc., but if you buy a more upscale car, the expense increases as well. With those things factored in, I think my car is AS reliable as anything else on the road and better than most!

-Dude pushing 50 in a few months (can't wait)
-Daily commute is 20 miles, w/occasional weekend crusing in the surrounding hills
-I Enjoy the comfort, style, luxury, rich features, killer stock JBL stereo, it really makes me feel special every time I drive it. Incredible bang for the buck, a real value.
-Not crazy about 91 Oct Fuel at current pricing, but it's not a deal breaker.
-4 1/2 stars, don't like the Tranny shift points when driving slowly, I would definitely consider another Mark8 if I can find another decent example after I hopefully (knock on wood) get 3 solid years out of this one. By then the 98's will be the same age as this one is now, should be doable. Amazing Cars, and ironic that they are so unpopular as to be so affordable for those of us that have "figured it out". http://www.geocities.com/mllhmj/mark8/Lincoln95.jpg

-Daily commute is 80 miles down Texas I-35 to Austin and back!
-I Enjoy the comfort, style, luxury, seats, stock JBL stereo and trunk mounted Sony CD Player.
-I bought mine at 34,000 miles with the balance of the Factory warranty from an individual. Saved me on the heater door, but I had to do my own outside drivers door handle and was that a job.
-I love being able to scan the engine and know what is wrong with it. I had a scan done and I was told the number two cylinder coil was bad, called O'Reillys Auto Supply and $35 and twenty minutes later it was fixed. Now if the computer trouble codes would auto clear, once it is fixed, that would be the cats meow! I just tuned it up with all new plugs, boots and springs. Thank you KBOB for the lead to Rock Auto. $3.99 a boot sure beat the $13.99 a boot at FORD and that was our LVC price. FORD doubled it's prices at the end of the year on parts! :L :L

i will say 4.8 stars i would give it 5 if it came with the 3 piece cobra intake stock. but it still kicks ass.

94 same old green, seems like there is more of them than any other color. This car is a serious drag car!!! 5.2 Sean Hyland stage III motor, twin Turbonetics turbos; power glide; 9 inch Ford rear end with 6.50 gears; Tubbed; 32x16-15 Mickey Thompson ET slicks rear, 26x4.5 front; Kooks stainless custom turbo headers; custom fabricated cold water intercooler; MSD DIS 4; FAST engine management;Dedenbear Command Center 3 delay box; frame connectors; Fabricated 4 link; Competion Enineering wheelie bars; sixteen point chrome molly cage; 97 T-Bird struts with 90/10 coil-overs, QA1 custom coil-over rear; B+M air shifter; Aeromotive 11105 fuel pump, Rail mounted fuel presure regulators; Wilson sheetmetal intake; Accufab Dual 70mm throttle body; Siemens 83 lb/hr injectors and alot more. I'm not going to say this is the fasted Mark VIII around, but if anybody has a faster one it better run under 8 seconds!!! I've run this car 15 times and been scared to death everytime!! I built it for one reason, and thats to win the World Muscle Car Shoot Out in Orlando next summer, by then it should be down in the mid 7's if I don't crash first. See ya down there. You'll know who I am if you make it down. I've got Skid Mark plastered all over it. I give all Mark VIII's *****.

- Mileage depends on the day, roughly 5K/year, 50/50 city/highway (I've had it for 4 years and have put 14K on it.)
- Corners like it's on rails and is able to get out of it's own way. Yet looks sleek and stylish. Also, trunk big enough for two loaded hockey bags and sticks!
- It seems like we have had to replace/fix pretty much everything on here. Blend door was a pain! Glad my husband works for Ford! :) At least we get a discount on parts.
- **** 1/2, not sure about buying another one, but definitely keeping this one.
Overall, LOVE the car!

OldRelayer February 10th, 2006, 04:02 AM There are few things that I am as qualified to comment on than Lincoln’s Mark VII and Mark VIII. I have had two VII's 84(first year or this model) and an 88 Mark VII (This was probably the best overall car I have ever owned). And 3 Mark VIII's 93(First Year of the new model, perfectly horrible car), 95 much improved over the 93 and possibly the second best car and a 98 and everyone knows this was the last year they made them. We still have the 98 and can't see that it will be going anywhere soon. I am 60 and still like a two door car with plenty of power, grew up in the 50's what else. We live in Maine so we don't use it in the Winter, this car is lethal in the snow and ice but that is fine it keeps the miles down for the good driving. I guess we are putting 10k or so a year on it. The 98 has always been a little disappointing in the gas mileage department averaging a little over 22 my 88 with Moly would get a tad under 30 and had much more low end torque with the 302 and it sure sounded better than the tin can resonators that are suppose to make the 4.6 sound like a real engine. But over all the car is quick and has been dependable but for the spark plug coils, I finally just replaced all of them, rather than have them fail one at a time. Every Mark I have owned has had Computer/electronics issues, the latest one is the Check air Suspension which is perfectly fine but sets off too much and is annoying. Mine is an LSC with the great Xenon headlights, monochrome look in Laser red, great looking car and still an 8 although there are a few cosmetics things I would like to get to this year that would bring it back to a 9 plus. It has 108K, more than any other Mark we have had and I suspect it will have well over 200k before its all over. Unlike its reputation I have always found the Mark an inexpensive car to maintain. Pre 100K the only issue has been ball joints but I think that has more to do with our Maine roads than the Lincoln. I can usually get to 100k with minimal repairs if any that cost me. I am not happy with the Chrome wheels that looked great until about 50k when the Chrome started peeling and at 100k they were so porous they couldn't hold air for very long, I just bought a set of Factory 93's that are nearly perfect and they look great. Would be rather confusing for anyone that knows Mark's. We lament the demise of this car and I truly can't find a car that I like as well and therefore we will just keep this one and do whatever it takes to keep it nice. I am not sure I answered all the poll questions. Hmmmm rating that is hard, nothing is perfect, but this car comes close 4 1/2 I guess, but every other car that ever was in its price range gets a 1, 2 or 3 so it is a pretty strong rating from a very long time Mark owner.

Definitely the interior, you feel like you are in a cockpit.
I just bought it in Dec 2005 but the low beam headlights are very dim, the "door ajar" sensor must be bad because it displays as though a door is open but it's not and I think the tranny has been rebuilt because it just doesn't shift as smooth as I think it should.
4 our of 5 stars
I have some work to do on the car to get it where I want it but I'll be spending some time on this site looking for help on...
Headlights - what's best bulb to install and how to replace them without breaking anything.
Door ajar sensor - how do I go about fixing it?
Suspension compressor/bags - mine's noisey, does the compressor need changed or the bags? Or both? If so, what's the best compressor/bags to buy and how do I change them?
I've read about someone having a performance chip, what will it do for my LSC? Will it improve gas mileage?
Will putting flowmasters on my LSC improve gas mileage and performance? Is it worth the $$$?
