KD00LS January 6th, 2009, 05:41 PM I would do like KD said. The world would be such a better place... for 13 minutes.:D pektel January 13th, 2009, 02:09 PM Hey Kyle, quick question for you. You've use PFW on the makita, right? When I try it with IP, it flashes over almost instantly. Is there a certain prep for a new PFW pad that I'm not doing or something? Also, I can't get an orange pad to not hop around on me. Have you experienced these issues as well? KD00LS January 13th, 2009, 04:44 PM Hey Kyle, quick question for you. You've use PFW on the makita, right? When I try it with IP, it flashes over almost instantly. Is there a certain prep for a new PFW pad that I'm not doing or something? Also, I can't get an orange pad to not hop around on me. Have you experienced these issues as well? Try working the polish at a lower speed than 3 and work up to 3. I just mist the pad with either QD or pad conditioner. As for hopping, I get the same problem with wool as well. I try not to add too much pressure (like you alternatively would on a PC) and it helps. Clean pads help too. pektel January 13th, 2009, 05:04 PM I haven't even brought it all the way up to 3 yet. I'm only at about 1100 RPM max. Just a couple little clicks past 2. I thought maybe I needed to prime the pad, so I put a line of polish about halfway around the pad. Think maybe that was too much for the wool pad? My next order from Phil is coming tomorrow. :D KD00LS January 13th, 2009, 05:44 PM I haven't even brought it all the way up to 3 yet. Do you have the UK backing plate? pektel January 13th, 2009, 05:46 PM I wish. I'll be getting one from Carlos soon hopefully. If you saw on DD that Phil changed to Uber pads, he also mentioned in a thread on DB that he would send a bunch of his old pads to me if I placed another order. How could I pass that up? From what I remember, I'm getting a gallon of Micro Restore, a gallon of ONR, a couple glass mf's, some red ccs euro applicators, and a swissvax wheel brush. I think that's it, but I cant' really remember. I'll find out tomorrow when fedex shows up! KD00LS January 13th, 2009, 07:11 PM Did you get a Swissvax Detail Brush? I'm thinking about picking one up for trim and all that, or I'll just use my Meg's slidelock brush. I've had it for like 3-4 years, found out yesterday that it slides:rolleyes: pektel January 13th, 2009, 07:16 PM I have a brand new meg's slidelock that I plan on dedicating a single use for. I found smaller brushes similar to the SW detail brush for half the price at a craft/fabric store. The SV brush I have now is dedicated to wheels. I bought another one (same size) to dedicate to something else. The slide lock will probably be for trim/emblems/etc. KD00LS January 13th, 2009, 10:03 PM I have a brand new meg's slidelock that I plan on dedicating a single use for. I feel like besides a trim/emblem/crack brush and a wheel brush what else would you be looking for? pektel January 14th, 2009, 09:07 AM Engine bay. I'm not using a brush that got used for degreasing an engine, on wheels. That brush would also be usedto clean out the drain area around the trunk lid. KD00LS January 14th, 2009, 11:16 AM Engine bay. I'm not using a brush that got used for degreasing an engine, on wheels. That brush would also be usedto clean out the drain area around the trunk lid. Good call, I completely forgot about that. A brush with really long bristles would be your best bet I'm assuming. I've tried long bristled brushes, but it seems like I can't apply enough pressure then. The SV wheel brush should also be able to sweep out those drainage areas along the engine compartment and trunk. Plus, you can apply as much pressure as you need to without the bristles really buckling too bad. Maybe the brush isn't the problem, though. I'm using meg's super degreaser at about 4:1 on engine bays. Maybe not cut it so much would break up the grime faster so I wouldn't need to scrub so much. pektel January 14th, 2009, 12:36 PM So, my order just arrived from Phil. The CCS euro applicator pads were backordered, and I was missing the gallon of Micro Restore. I was happy to see the pads he sent me, though. Especially the 2 3M Ultrafina blue pads. I have no idea what the really thick ones are. The second stack from the left all have white velcro instead of the standard LC black. maybe sonus or something? Anyways, here's a pic of what I've received so far. The SV mixing bottles are for smaller bottles of product to keep in the car at all times. The also have a handy dilution guide on the side. :D KD00LS January 14th, 2009, 01:05 PM Did he send you used pads or something for compensation in the mean time, or are your old pads incorporated in there as well? You'll like the Wheel Brush. Takes a little more time but its handy around the edges and in lug nut holes etc. I had a dream that I found a giant tube of P21S Finish Restorer because I added a blemish to a wheel the other day. Professional help...near future. pektel January 14th, 2009, 01:35 PM  I already have 1 SV wheel brush. This was an extra that doesn't have a decided use yet. All those pads are used ones Phil sent me, because he's switching to all Uber pads. There was joking about other members taking the old pads off his hands for him, and he said he would. I pm'ed him, and asked if he was serious about it. He told me to place an order :D Along with my order came these 24 pads. At about 10 bucks each (minimum), that is 240 dollars worth of pads for free. KD00LS January 14th, 2009, 02:18 PM  I already have 1 SV wheel brush. It's been WELL below zero here for a while. The other day it was -37 F when I woke up. It's above zero today, so I'm heading out the door in just a few minutes to go home from work, and ONR wash the car, and hopefully try it again on the other half of the roof. KD00LS January 20th, 2009, 02:07 PM I can has teh sticky back? pektel January 29th, 2009, 01:28 PM This thread was all the way back on page 5. Back to the top! Update: kinks with makita use are GONE. Love this thing. Such great results in WAY less time. I feel bad for my PC though. It doesn't get out much anymore :D New acquisition (not available in the US. Distibutors won't even ship it here). But I was lucky enough to get someone to fly it in under the radar :D JWerner2 January 29th, 2009, 01:39 PM I went to about 3 Car Quests and could not find the Duragloss. Also, my wife took our Highlander to one of those full service wash's where they have about 12 Ecuadorian illegals jumping out and drying your car while I was wasting money on watered down drinks and penny slots in AC. Well when she came back I almost flipped :q:q:q:q! I dont know what the hell happened but all across the damn hood there was these scuffs going from the grille back to the windshield. I went back and tried to act as calm as I could since I was half loaded ( I shouldn't have done it but man was it bad ) and all the little sh*ts did was give me a voucher for a free wash they called "The Whole Enchilada"! They told me it could have happened anywhere in between but there was about 3 people after me with the same problem and more people going through the damn car wash. Now mind you I take this thing on some novice trails and even still, riding on those trails never did as much damage as this POS car wash did in less than 2 minutes! pektel January 29th, 2009, 01:47 PM Were they using a water blade to dry the vehicle? Sounds like that could be the culprit. Those damn squeegees are the devil. pektel January 29th, 2009, 01:50 PM That's weird about the duragloss. If they dont' stock them, they should be able to order them in. I recommend 501, 105, 111, 901, and 951 (not sure about the number 951, but it's Aquawax). I've heard good things about their glass cleaners too. 501 followed by 105 works great on chrome and wheels. 111 is a very nice sealant. 901 is a great car wash. That's all I've tried of their line so far. JWerner2 January 29th, 2009, 01:52 PM No they used those damn rags I assume. You know how they use the same 12 rags all day long? Im thinking it was one of those that had the roller with all the chamois like strips and something was lodged in one. I hope it will come out by hand with some of my Zymol at least but in some spots it is a straight up scratch. I wanna try to contact someone on a higher level but the thing is already scratched here and there I doubt I would get anywhere with it. That's weird about the duragloss. If they dont' stock them, they should be able to order them in. I was just hoping on finding a deal like you did:D KD00LS January 29th, 2009, 02:15 PM No they used those damn rags I assume. Its actually right on the PA/NJ border but in the middle. Dont worry about it man but thanks a million!! Im moving to the middle of no where in PA soon and Im gunna have a nice size garage to work in finally. Whats weird is that there is about 30 or more of these scuffs but they are all in straight lines from grille to wind shield. KD00LS January 29th, 2009, 02:31 PM Did they hand wash it or run it through something. I bet if they ran it through there was grit on those things that hang down from the ceiling. Where are you moving to in PA? JWerner2 January 29th, 2009, 03:10 PM Moving to Germansville. It was a machine they ran it through. It had the two vertical cylinders with the cloth like strips and a horizontal one just like the old school ones but all updated technology if you would, like the brushes weren't those plastic bristles it was cloth like strips. There were a few other things here and there but once I saw the huge horizontal roller I knew it was most likely that. Plus like I said, a few other people showed up as I was leaving with the same problems. I guess there really aint nothing I could have done in the end since my wife left without checking it out first even with the fact other had the same problem. I did enjoy the look on the mangers face when I told him I was going to give the voucher to some bum under the pier to wipe his ass with since I don't see my self driving 2 hours away just to have a bunch of idiots wash my car;) . Me and Pete moved on to Duragloss 105 though. Yes, I use both DG 105 and PB WS on wheels. I still don't have enough experience with either one to tell you which one lasts longer. But I can tell you that DG 105 is a lot easier to apply/remove, and can be done a lot quicker. Eric, what are you looking to purchase? That would depend on where we would reccommend sending you. Then I'd have to buy the wax separate. also, anyone have any coupon codes? pektel March 16th, 2009, 11:49 AM you can use dustudent at detailedimage for 10% off. i think it's db at detailersdomain.com for 10% off I've never used cg's clay bar. But it's worth a shot. My favorite ones are: bilt hamber (hands down the BEST one out there. Only need to use water for lube) but it's illegal in the US, so it's a little tricky getting it. Riccardo Blue - again, this one is illegal in the US. Meg's consumer line - this is the white one, part of the "smooth clay" kit you can buy at walmart. It's actually pretty decent clay. Clay magic blue - if you can find it at Autozone. Check your local Harbor Freight for Collinite 845. The one closest to me stopped selling it, I don't know if other ones did that as well or not. But if they have it, pick up 476 as well. It works well on door jambs, engine bay, etc. EZ Creme glaze is awesome stuff. I bet Kyle would sell you a bottle out of the GALLON that he has. I don't recommend any leather conditioner, as the leather in our cars is pretty nonporous. I don't think it would absorb any conditioner you would try to apply. I would think it would just leave a film that would attract dirt. I could be wrong, though. Eric0508 March 16th, 2009, 03:32 PM Done. Clay bar kit and glaze are on their way via chemicalguys.com. I read on Detail University that you use a green machine to clean carpets. Do you use any special detailing cleaner or do you use the bissell brand cleaning stuff? If you use the detailing stuff doe s it hurt the green machine? I ask because I have one and am thinking about using it to clean the LS. Also for anyone how are the Meguairs detailer products? I've been thinking about buying some. I just want something that works good, decently priced (which the gallon jugs of Meguiars seem to be) and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, because I'm tired of the stuff you buy off the shelfs around here. For the carpet cleaning, I normally just use the Bissell little green machine for extraction. Most times I don't even put the product in it. Just water goes in the machine. I use the carpet cleaner in a spray bottle, mist it on the carpet, wait a little so it starts to soak in, then agitate lightly with a brush. Then I use the LGM to spray plain water onto it, and extract the solution/water from the carpet. This seems to work the best for me, since I don't have to worry about product building up in the hose. Here's a link to the place that is getting rave reviews as of late. They are reasonably priced too. http://www.majesticsolutionsinc.com/ for sure get the enzymatic and extraction carpet cleaners. Then for APC, get their Super Green Stuff. They also have an awesome shampoo, Ultra Gloss. As for meg's gallons, YES. a LOT of them are great products. I have a gallon of Last Touch, and Super Degreaser right now. I will be picking up a gallon of Wheel Brightener and All Season Dressing probably pretty soon too. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know! KD00LS March 30th, 2009, 10:33 PM I wonder how your Bissel stacks up to a pro machine. KD00LS March 31st, 2009, 09:51 AM Pektel, you gotta go back and real our posts from the beginning, we were friggin idiots! Eric0508 April 12th, 2009, 03:55 PM Ah, it feels good to have a clean car! All my products finally came and I am happy with the results. Here's what happened: Interior: 1. Empty trash and vacuum. Rigid 5.5hp shop vac plus some carpet cleaner made easy work of any dirt and salt that escaped the rubber mats. 2. Wipe down everything with damp cloth, then apply 303 Aerospace protectant. Just had the sample size, but i was impressed, i'll be purchasing a larger bottle here shortly. 3. Stoner's invisible glass. I have the spray bottle, and im having some trouble with streaking, maybe i need to try the compressed variety. Exterior: 1: wash car. Two bucket method with MCG. 2: clay bar (chemical guys with luber). First time using a clay bar. It didn't pick up as much as i would have liked it to, i don't know if it was because i used too much lube (i didn't think you could) or if I wasn't pressing hard enough. It definitely made a big difference though 3: Glaze (chemical guys ez creme). Made a huge difference, don't think my LS has ever had that depth of shine. Easy to apply and good smelling too! 4: Wax (Collinite 845). This was surprised me. Not only was it very thin, but seemed oily too. You definitely don't need a lot of this stuff. It took forever to haze, and was very difficult to buff off. But i guess that's what comes with the durability. Overall, very impressed with all the products recommended in this thread. Alas, had a family function on a dirt road before i was able to snap some pics. At least i know it'll wash right off with a little water. Thanks to everyone in this thread! pektel April 13th, 2009, 09:41 AM You don't want to wait long to buff off 845. I apply to the whole vehicle, then remove immediately. It buffs off like butter that way, and you don't lose any durability. Thing with Collinite, it's not a carnauba wax. It's a synthetic wax. You don't need to let it haze. Just FYI for future reference. Oh, and I've never used CG's clay bar. It may have been too fine to pick up everything. If you plan on throwing the clay away after you're done, what you could do is use Stoner's Tarminator on the tough spots, then clay afterwards. Pretty much use the Tarminator as clay lube. It will take off what you want, but the Tarminator disintegrates the claybar, and wrecks it so you can't use it again. But it will remove that stubborn contamination. Where's the pics, man? Wash that dust off & Post em up! pektel April 13th, 2009, 10:48 AM I wonder how your Bissel stacks up to a pro machine. My friends parents own a carpet cleaning company and I have access to one whenever I need. Don't know how i missed this post, but you are a lucky bar steward, man. I mean, the LGM works great for me, and was pretty cheap (a little over 100 bucks). but I'm sure it doesnt' have the power that a professional extractor does. I may even be looking at a Mytee Lite sometime in teh future. We'll see how the pro detailing thing takes off. Pektel, you gotta go back and real our posts from the beginning, we were friggin idiots! Haha, I just read like the first 12 pages. Wow, we sure have come a long way! KD00LS April 23rd, 2009, 02:08 PM Ah, it feels good to have a clean car! Good to hear you got some good recommendations. Try shaking Collinite 845 for a long time to get even consistency. It is supposed to be applied very thin and about as easy off and on of a wax as you can get, including wait time. rsimmons1 May 26th, 2009, 06:05 AM After reading all 23 pages of this... I am dizzy... and still know nothing about detailing... although I may call that guy from Westville, wonder if he'll come to Champaign? How far away are you? pektel June 1st, 2009, 10:26 AM I'm guessing he's referring to Jason @ Deep Gloss. JennsLincolnLS April 18th, 2011, 01:26 AM OK, Hello Everyone.... I see no one has written on this in a while but I have been told to love my car ( I haven't up to now, I'm used to driving beaters that don't require TLC) and as such I need some advice. I don't want to have to wait for an order online, so what can I get from my local auto parts store that would be a decent "kit" to do my very first detail ever. I want to see if I can get my car as shiny as you guys have yours, but I have never detailed a car in my life, so I don't know what I need or how to use it. You guys have given some great advice, but I don't know what half the stuff is that you are referring to. Please remember I am young, female, and not very vehicle savvy, but I am working on changing that last one. LOL ;) Can anyone give me some tips and perhaps a walk through on what I will need and how to use it?? Thanks, Jennifer sbcaprice305 April 18th, 2011, 01:49 AM For a rookie i'd just wash it and apply a coat of wax w/ wax applicators found at wally world or auto part stores. Pick any wax really, some will say get this or that but it's entirely up to you. Meguirs, turtle wax ect ect...For the dash/doors get some armor all protectent and wipe it on. Clean the windows w/ glass cleaner of ur choice, Use some tire shine(i like armor all foam)...Just basic stuff. Once you get a hang of waxing/basic car care you can move up to the more complicated paint revival..Using a da, Swirel removal, clay bar ect ect. .02 Onefreshls February 3rd, 2012, 08:36 AM http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd505/onefreshls/09fc3ded.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd505/onefreshls/be890eb7.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd505/onefreshls/881bb744.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd505/onefreshls/fe46cd3a.jpg | |||||
