hard jerk when put in drivepressley May 28th, 2008, 10:20 PM hard jerk when you put the car from park to drive. any ideas? all coils were replaced 2 weeks ago. 97stscaddy May 28th, 2008, 10:34 PM When does it do this? Engine cold? How often? bigbody May 28th, 2008, 10:54 PM Does it do it when you go from park to reverse also? tonyd May 28th, 2008, 11:21 PM mine does hard shift into reverse sometimes, usualy cold start. CashmereLS May 29th, 2008, 08:16 AM same problem here, when warm though. R to P I get the hard "pop". eastcoastLS May 29th, 2008, 08:28 AM Updated pcm code or new solenoid. This has been covered before I'm pretty sure. Search should yield an answer. 97stscaddy May 29th, 2008, 11:39 AM I was thinking more along the lines of a worn out engine or transmission mount. steagle May 29th, 2008, 12:18 PM i've had that for quite some time too. the clank and really harsh jolt from P to R and from P to D. it's embarassing when i've got someone in the car and we're taking off from a parking spot. steagle May 29th, 2008, 12:19 PM when this first started happening i immediately took it to a mechanic to get the automatic transmission service done. drained the tranny reservoir, put in the fresh quarts, replaced the torque converter etc. it made my shifting from 1st to 5th gear smoother, but did nothing it improve P to R or P to D. pressley May 29th, 2008, 05:10 PM It doesnt matter wether its cold or warm anytime that start the car and put it in drive from park, i get a kick forward. i dont notice it in reverse. what can this be? 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC May 29th, 2008, 06:25 PM Could be one of the Guibos or the center bearing. Just a thought. 97stscaddy May 29th, 2008, 06:31 PM Guibo? 02LSE96LSC91SE84TC May 29th, 2008, 06:39 PM Guibo=flex coupler. Our driveshaft has one on each end and power is driven through them. chocolat1701 May 29th, 2008, 08:05 PM ohhhh the flex coupler why you couldnt say that..... hmmmmmm mcfly.... 97stscaddy May 29th, 2008, 09:48 PM Ahh ok. Hey, if anyone wants to replace one of those there's the part number. pressley May 29th, 2008, 11:13 PM When I say a hard push i mean before i as soon as i put it in drive it does it without applying on the gas. and im forced to breake hard. The car dont roll, its hard jerk or push, shove bigbody May 29th, 2008, 11:59 PM I can almost asure you that if the car jerks from park to drive or reverse that its the tranny seliniod. The one in my car went bad and it did the same thing you guys are going through. My brother in law is a lincoln mechanic and he told me 9 out of ten times its that. steagle May 30th, 2008, 01:20 PM why isn't the solenoid replacing during a transmission service? i don't get that. is it really that unrelated to the other work involved? tonyd May 30th, 2008, 06:12 PM I can almost asure you that if the car jerks from park to drive or reverse that its the tranny seliniod. The one in my car went bad and it did the same thing you guys are going through. My brother in law is a lincoln mechanic and he told me 9 out of ten times its that. any idea of cost? dealer closed and can't find it online. DIY or shop? cheers bigbody May 30th, 2008, 11:17 PM I know its not cheap parts or labor i would say your best bet is have it done by a mechanic. I will get you a price for the part and labor from my brother in law tommorow. Thank god for warranty. tonyd June 1st, 2008, 08:48 PM what's the worst that can happen if I don't get it fixed? I don't feel like a $500 fix right now. tonyd June 4th, 2008, 11:29 AM well, i'll let you know if the new PCM flash ($50) will sort out the hard shift problem tomorrow. ROCKSTAR June 4th, 2008, 07:49 PM I get this problem when the engine is cold, when you start the car try giving it like 25 seconds to idle down a little bit, you will actually watch the RPMs drop at this point try putting it in gear and see what happens. :] bbrase June 4th, 2008, 08:00 PM I get this problem when the engine is cold, when you start the car try giving it like 25 seconds to idle down a little bit, you will actually watch the RPMs drop at this point try putting it in gear and see what happens. :] Exactly what I do.. The engine goes to what 1500 at start? and 20 some seconds later drops below a grand. I still however find the knock when going from R to P. eastcoastLS June 4th, 2008, 09:11 PM Exactly what I do.. The engine goes to what 1500 at start? and 20 some seconds later drops below a grand. I still however find the knock when going from R to P. Mine does exact same thing. I always wait til the car idles down. I thin k it says to do so in the manual. ROCKSTAR June 4th, 2008, 09:22 PM maybe its just normal diet for the car to settle down before you go tearing up the streets. easy solution: start your car and run your status button, by the time thats through you're all set. otherwise get a remote starter and start the car before you walk out of your house. SEALboytv4 June 5th, 2008, 09:36 AM Yup, mine does the same thing and the dealer hooked it up tot he computer and sait it was a solenoid problem...of course not under warranty (go figure). With parts and labor it was going to be a $900+ repair job. Needless to say I haven't had it fixed yet, I got the part # for what I need so I will take it to a local tranny shop hat I trust and let them do it. I agree, PCM and/or solenoid, the other problems listed here are just too exotic to happen often. tonyd June 5th, 2008, 03:30 PM well, I ended up paying $75 for the PCM upgrade. there were no stored error codes. Car shifts much better/quicker. I'll report back in a week if there is no more hard jerk. LEOV5 June 5th, 2008, 03:58 PM I always wait for the idle to drop down before I select the gear I need, Drive or Reverse. I have been trying to get my Wife to do the same, but She only does it when I'm the passenger in her Mountaineer (thinks my car sits to low to the ground to drive). | |||||
