manish May 15th, 2008, 11:06 AM I have a 97 base and i'm only getting 13.4 mpg. I was wondering what is everybody else gas mileage is for gen II marks. (I do have a exhuast leak which i'm planning to get the LMS kit from geno when he gets more oval single tip mufflers in.) I think i might need a tune up, so new plugs are in order.
98CobraStarLSC May 15th, 2008, 11:14 AM Driving around the city i usually average 18mpg. Also, i have an exhaust which, obviously make the car louder and sound way better so i am not light on the throttle very often. haha. :gr_devil:
Yeah you may try the tuneup. plugs, air filter. I did a fuel filter and it seemed to help out. Wouldnt think it would but i think it actually did. haha.
Glorywagon May 15th, 2008, 12:02 PM Gen I
I have only used 2 tanks since I bought my 95 first tank was 25 .3 second tank was 28.7 But I do drive slow most of the time. 50 on 2 lanes road and 60 to 65 on interstate.(grampa) you know the type.:)
So that shows it you pay attention you can get as good as mileage as your neighbor ford escort .:)
So if your gas mileage suck it might be your foot.:nxsmile
Battery May 15th, 2008, 12:07 PM Most of my driving is highway and I try to keep it around 60ish and I can still never average over 20mpg.
jamie97lsc May 15th, 2008, 12:15 PM my black 93 is averaging 19 city and my green 93 is around 18.4, highway my black one has been getting up to 28 - 29 the green one never goes on the highway so i dont know!
Smoke and Mirrors May 15th, 2008, 01:05 PM I don't check it during city use. But,i get 21 mpg on the highway, and i drive anywhere between 70 to 80 mph.
tonye96 May 15th, 2008, 01:40 PM I was averaging 25-28 on the hwy pretty consistently until the trans went. I was lucky to get 9 in the city (concrete right foot)....
Sal329 May 15th, 2008, 02:06 PM I avg 300 miles a week, driving to work usually in bumper to bumper for approx 20 out of the 30 miles and 75mph on my way home. I avg 23-25 mpg.
unity May 15th, 2008, 02:41 PM Was getting anywhere from 28 to 32 on the highway depending on driving style. About 20 to 22 in town. Then I replaced my MAF and the car is all over the place, but its lower.
If anyone wants my eco-MAF I will sell it! LOL
AbrahamLincoln May 15th, 2008, 03:13 PM driving like a flesh taco with the cruise on flat road 27-28 - foot to the floor with the bottle open? Significantly less!
AbrahamLincoln May 15th, 2008, 03:15 PM a noticable difference was lms chip and new 02 sensors. I havn't messed with the mafs those things are touchy i wouldnt go sprayin it with stuff. get a bigger one if anything? im assuming cleaning it when its not broken might lead to issues.
Moes8 May 15th, 2008, 03:36 PM i get 18 mpg (17mpg on computer) around home/back roads ,no highhway
and 28-29mpg on highway @ 65-70 mph (27 mpg computer)
MatthewDavid May 15th, 2008, 03:39 PM I have a 97' and I get 14.5 in city... I know I should get better... I did the new plugs and air filter... I'm gonna change the fuel filter next... if you find anything out to get a little more outta it you should PM me :)... what else can you do besides exhaust and tune to get more mileage?
turborich May 15th, 2008, 04:02 PM 1995 mark VIII, City driving - lots of stop & go. I get right about 15 MPH. The display says 16 MPG. That is being easy on the gas too. The highway is a different story though.
They put ethonal in the fuel here & it's oxygenated as well. Not sure if this hurts any?
Hemihed426 May 15th, 2008, 04:29 PM I drive about 350 Hwy miles a week and average 24.8. With premium I get about .8 more mpg. Not bad for a car with this much giddy-up. My Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 six and 180 hp can only manage about 19 mpg-go figure.
manish May 15th, 2008, 04:52 PM can some then give me a absolute list of things i should do,as a tune up?
I mwan should i replace the fuel filter, and clean my maf? and how do i clean them?
Jeffguy11 May 15th, 2008, 05:51 PM My 98 used to get about 15mpg when i first got it. I then did plugs, cleaned maf, air filter, fuel filter, and seafoam, and i immediately jumped to about 20mpg avg. Now i have 4.10s and i seem to average at about 17-18. Def clean the maf it makes a difference- they sell spray cleaners for cleaning them; you basically take out the whole assembly and follow the instructions on the can.
ladenblowfish May 15th, 2008, 09:41 PM My 93 gets 18.5-19 mpg around town and 25-28 mpg on the highway with my 4.10s. Normal driving.:D
shiryu0 May 15th, 2008, 10:14 PM well were i live its pretty much, FLAT......
on the highway.....
@ 60mph in grandma mode :D im getting 30ish....highest steady reading was 33mpg, in dead summer, the car likes the heat i dont know why
@ 70mph about 28......
that what the display says anyway.......
in town....
i dont really know......lol
my average on the display stands around 18 to 20......it mysteriously likes to creep down on the weekends ;)
now i only work 4 days a week, its 46 miles everyday......and i pretty much end up going thru half a tank on those 4 days.......
so im getting some damn good gas mileage considering how big and heavy the boat is :)
THANATOS May 16th, 2008, 12:34 AM i was only geting 13.9 city til i got new tires all around and new wheel hub bearings in the front, now i get 19.3 city
MediumD May 16th, 2008, 02:16 AM My 94 usually got 20-22 city, 29-31 highway. I'm also a mile above sea level (less air = less fuel used.) My friends 97 LSC would do 2 less in the city and 3-4 less on the highway.
dnehthend May 16th, 2008, 03:19 AM 18.6 according to the computer, I haven't reset it in like 5k miles
Moes8 May 16th, 2008, 04:55 AM in dead summer, the car likes the heat i dont know why
All cars running properly will get best mileage at highest air temps, worst horsepower, but best mileage.
Rich88LSC May 16th, 2008, 09:32 PM I get 15.7 according to the car. That is mostly stop and go city driving. New trans and 3500 stall just went in, have to flash it with the xcal and 4.10s are on the way so we will see what that number turns into.
Definitely clean the MAF. I used electrical parts cleaner on a couple of cars and it make a noticeable difference.
manish May 17th, 2008, 12:31 AM is there a how to article onhow to clean my MAF?
unity May 17th, 2008, 10:16 AM Nope, no need. Tis easy! Remove air filter housing, the back half is the exterior housing for the MAF. Look inside for two small bare wires. Spray with NON FILMING electric parts cleaner for a nice long time. Thats all. Just dont touch them with anything!
IllinoisMarkVIII May 17th, 2008, 07:42 PM 18-20 running around here in the corn fields. 26.7 on round trip to AZ a few weeks ago. That was 80mph the whole trip. 98 with 90000 miles and a K&N air filter, new plugs, and Amsoil 5-30.
NWINMarkVIII May 18th, 2008, 08:10 PM Wow, what am I doin wrong here? I am getting 16.5 mpg.
Scorpio1118_2000 May 18th, 2008, 08:38 PM Well Im getting about 16/21 so Im thinking about parking her for a little while until I can get some work done on her. Premium is now up to $3.95 a gallon and I need new suspension, exhaust, and tires, Maybe once those things get fixed the milage will get better.
N.Fauteux May 22nd, 2008, 06:53 PM with an exhaust leak, im averaging about 29 highway at 70mph and about 25 city. i have a 1994 with 100,800 miles. recent tune up included wires, plugs, and oil change. also WOW i wish permium was that cheap here. we are paying well over 4.50
RedHotMark96 May 22nd, 2008, 10:06 PM City (downtown Ann Arbor; lights everywhere 25-30mph limits) 15mpg
Suburban (40-45mph limits) 17-18mpg
Highway 25-28mpg depending on how fast I'm driving. Avg 26.7@75mph
jd95base May 23rd, 2008, 12:36 AM just got back from picking up my daughter from a little vacation back home (ohio) to see famly. 325 miles and 27.8 mpg at about 72 mph! I am happy and a little surprised! check engine light came on a lot, maybe O2 sensor?
