One year old Wally world tires. I guess you get what you pay for.

Ther's a long string of numbers on the tire, starting with DOT. What are the last 3 or 4 numbers at the end? Even though you bought them a year ago, the tires could be a lot older. Those last ones are the date code.

Oh, and you're lucky it was just that piece. A full tread loss would've most likely resulted in a bad crash.

i had cooper tires years ago and after 3 years the strated coming apart,i got all my money back,and the tires were 70% used up

The "delamination" issue becomes alot more likely in tires that are more than 6 years old. That's why I asked the age. I've seen tires listed as "brand new" on the shelf that were really 12 years old. The way to read the code I descibed is pretty simple. The 3 or 4 digits at the end of that DOT code:

say the code reads "429". That means the tire was made the 42nd week of 1999.

A tire with a code with 4 numbers such as "3104". Means teh 31st week of 2004. Take a look to see how old your's are...

After a little research I found those Goodyears are only sold to Walmart. They dont even list them on the Goodyear site.

Hey now don't go bashing Wal-Mart. Bryan doesn't like that... Neither do some of the others in the Political forum. Wal-Mart is the savior of the American Economy and stands for everything that is good about America.

So Don't bash Wal-Mart. I'm sure the Walton family will gladly replace that tire.

they just opened a 'super' walmart about 5 miles from here and I checked it out yesterday-unbelievable the size of the place, it's like a walmart with a lowe's, circuit city , giant supermarket and speciality stores in one giant location, under one roof. Places like that are obscene, it kills neighboring businesses and people lose their jobs. Too excessive, IMO. And most of what I saw was just Walmart junk, just in a bigger place.

Yeah I come from a small town in North Dakota and there's a town called Jamestown that's about half an hour away from us... They passed a law that they can't build a walmart in our town cause of what it did to Jamestown... I remember when I was little we used to drive there cause there were so many little ma and pa stores... down main street it was like a mall... with everything from clothing to hardware to coin shops everything... they do have a mall that's like three blocks from the walmart... now about 10 years later I believe... there's nothing there... the mall sux... it has a fabric store and a k-mart that barely survives... all the stores on main are closed... the only store down there is a dollar store and a tanning salon... in 3 blocks that's really sad... all the people used to be really nice and know everything they all moved away... the town's pretty much dying now... the only place to find a good job is at Walmart or at a restaurant that's around it... and it's true about the changing of the model numbers... I work at a photography store and we run into that a lot... people bring in a camera from there and we can't find anything on it cause the model # doesn't really exist... Walmart Sux

Rich, you know Manitowoc. But do you know it before Wal-Mart? Really sad what they did to that city too.

Regardless. The tire should not have done that and SHOULD be replaced. Its looks like a re-surfaced tire. They take old tires, peal the tread off and put new on. Its more commonly done than people know. Its done A LOT with truck tires and other specialty tires.

There was a report about this exact issue on ABC's "20/20" this past week...interesting, to say the least. I never knew that tires could be that old, sitting on the shelf waiting to be sold.

really? im not the only one? now picture going into one in "collage town usa" thousands of dumb collage kids just wondering around the store aimlessly. ive gotten into numerous yelling matches in the parking lot about the damn cart return. my favorite was when this dumb chick put a cart in front of my car (with me in it!!!!) also the return was one spot the other way from her car! so i got out and put her cart back behind her car, then she gets out screaming all kinds of crap at me, she even called me a honky lol

I have on michelin bias-ply tires, on a truck. The bed was overloaded (turning lathe -- flat bed) the tread blew right off going down clean highway, and only in a patch.
