searched didn't bring up much, someone please tell me some pros and cons of removing the catalytic converters on a gen 1 v8. got one breaking down and needs replacing. also anyone tried any high flow cats for this car.

Don't remove them, thats a bad idea.

I am about to replace both of my cats with carsound hi-flow cats, i'll let you know how it comes out (probably thursday or friday when i have some time off).

Take them out, we need more global warming, its still too cold here in Chicago :D

you'll go from pass to fail on all emissions tests much quicker..

You may also want to consider what caused them to go bad in the first place. I know some folks have posted that bad coils can have cats failing due to unspent fuel.

Just a little precaution before you shell the cash for the cats and then find out they got ruined cuz of something like the coils, etc.

The OEM cats are high flow cats, if you're changing them out just for that reason, not a gain.

thanks everybody, mine was damaged in a concrete block accident. it got dented but i told the adjustor not to worry about it. everythings still working good, just rattles like hell now. muffler shop wants to put a universal cat on for $160, i guess that's what i'll do.

Nope, one of them is bad. Since i already have to replace one of them, i'm just going to do both so i don't have to worry about it again.

I have no cats... runs fine.... However I am dyno tuned for it all soo... and I did feel a difference.

i don't have emissions where i'm at, but i don't want my car to suck the crap out of gas either. i don't want to lose any low end either cuz i don't have enough anyway. and can i turn off the engine light if i get a tuner?

You can reset (clear) a CEL but you can't turn off the CEL.

you will almost always will lose low end when opening your exhaust more it may give you more horsepower but often does it at the expense of torque or it shifts the peak HP/TQ curves higher in the RPM band

I notice a huge shift between top end and bottom with the cutout's opened vs closed. Personally, I like both. For freeway runs it's nice to have that topend, but for the dig, it's nice to have that torque punch. 75 wet shot on the way! Hope in time for dyno day.

how do you think it would run without the dyno tune, and how'd it affect your fuel mileage after removing them. i gotta do something soon, car's starting to act stupid, feels like the coils are acting up.

Im actually running no cats aswell...or mufflers for that matter, just a bassani x pipe...:D

top end i could feel alittle difference...as for the sound it does have its loud moments :D ...ill take some video latter
