My 93 stalled.....cranks but no go

The other day I was driving and my ride just stalled like I was out of gas. Had just filled up 10 minutes earlier. Tried to restart, car stumbled and when I hit the gas it died again. Now it doesn't even stumble but still cranks fine. Pulled the codes and the only one that came up was 542. Book says "Fuel pump cicuit was open, EEC processor to motor ground." Not an electrical guy at all. I hope someone can tell me what all this means.........

Loose wire? but most likely your fuel pump failed. I would have some one turn the key on while you put your ear near the gas tank and see if you hear the pump kick on.

check the inertia switch. anything rolling around in the trunk can smack it and trip it.

Well I tried turning the key and when I do I get a knocking sound in the rear. Is that the fuel pump coming on?
