Thanks to Brad Storey (cudaz101) and his dad for getting them done. They are very professional and I highly recommend them if you're looking to get some wheels.

They rub really bad when I'm in reverse to parallel park. Also at highways speeds on bumps and on tight turns. I dunno what I'm gonna do about that. The car is sitting way too high for my taste, it needs to get lowered but I need to fix the rubbing first. Anyone have any advice?

Have you tried to curl the fenders? that should help with the rubbing. There are lots of owners with even wider set-ups than yours and they dont this issue. Do a search and you will see what I mean.

I always wondered what chrome 03+ cobra wheels would look like on a gen 1. I guess i know now. Looks great. Almost as good as mine;)

According to discount tire company the widest recomended wheel is 8". I told them that others have used wider wheels but the guy just argued with me.

Anyways, your Mark looks amazing! Hopefully you can get the rubbing issue solved.

I took a better look at it, it's the upper control arm that is rubbing. I'm gonna grind it down a little bit.

on my 255 45 they rubbed really badly, I had to roll the fenders, all better now.

I had the same problem with one of my friends cars, I told them to just do what I want them to do or I will take my business elsewhere.
Well guess what, they did it and it worked and they shut thier cakeholes.

did you swap hubs or are they 5x4.25 bolt pattern? Also do you know what the backspacing is?

I have 17x9's on my gen 1 also. 275/40 front and 315/35 back. Ground the spindles down a little (about 3/16") and I haven't had any rubbing.

The grind is pretty easy to do. Don't forget to treat or paint the bare metal when you are done, especially if you are in the snow belt like me.

Please explain with more clarity what exactly is rubbing. The tires themselves or the wheels??

If either are rubbing I would suspect worn susp. parts...

Have not had a single issue with the MarkVIII and these wheels rubbing.

Whats up Brad! Since it took a week before I fixed it they left a nice mark on the spindle for me to know where to put the grinder. I ground about 1/8" down for .5" above the mark and below and hit it with black spray paint. The rubbing *almost* stopped but it still rubs a little when cutting the wheel all the way in reverse so this weekend I'm gonna grind down a little bit more and that should do it.

So its the tire that is rubbing now or the wheel??

The inside of the rim of the wheel, and I know this because I saw wear on it. The tire was also rubbing slightly which is why I ground down .5" above also. As for what is rubbing now even after the grinding, I'm gonna have to guess the rim but I can't be sure until I take the wheel off this weekend.

Anyone who has read this thread should read the paragraph below. The specs of most of our wheels are such that they leave no room for a worn out front-end. If your control arms (Most common problem related to OUR wheels rubbing) have any play in them they need replaced. When you bolt a wheel on your hubs this is a RIGID piece of the suspension. There is NO LATERAL MOVEMENT ALLOWED PERIOD...ZERO MOVEMENT...Clear enough?? So if the wheel clears when you bolt it on. That same exact clearance, with respect to the wheel and the control arm, should be exactly the same in a full lock to lock turn. OBVIOUSLY the deflection of the tire itself is another story. However the tire should also be in the exact same position with respect to the control arm itself. If anyone has any questions please hit me up with them here, PM or email...


There is NO PROBLEM WITH THE FITMENT OF THESE WHEELS!!! You DO NOT NEED TO GRIND YOUR CONTROL ARMS TO MAKE THEM FIT. Anyone who wants to debate that fact is welcome to weigh in on the subject. But you best have your ducks in a row...

also a wheel bearing could allow lateral movement. i agree with brad they rub something is wrong. i had a set of his speedstars on my car for a couple days with no rubbing issues, and they dont rub on the thundermark.
