to my knowledge only the v8 came with the shift select system on them, I woundering if it actualy the trans or just the shifter? I can get the shifter for a good price but dont want to get it if it wont work on my trans. the person im getting it from wants $50 plus $15 for shipping is it worth the chance

You can do it, but as there is no USA SST V6 transmission calibration you would permanently lose D4. If you could get a hold of a Canadian V6 calibration and could find a dealer willing to install it, you could get D4 back. There is a V6 with SST on a dealer lot on Minnesota, but that is one of only 3 sport V6s.

IT CAN BE DONE! I am certain you can retain D4. This Member (http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/member.php?u=6355) has done it. Ask him how.

IIRC once you install the shifter all you need is a minor transmission programming reflash and you are set.

That's the rub. There is NO program available. You need a "sport" calibration to make D4 work. Since there wasn't a U.S. V6 sport.....

Like I said, if you don't mind losing D4 it is a direct swap.

Hummm that sucks. I thought for sure LEOV5 had retained all functionality of the shifter. I could be wrong.

Perhaps Torrie or ILLS could work something out with the PCM tune they provide with the Xcal. I dont know for sure.... just spit balling here.

Yes, it will work. It is on my car and running (shifting great). I have still not had the car refashed for the D4 to operate. I have gone to 2 Dealers (1 Lincoln and 1 Ford) and they don't want to do it. In reality, I do miss the D4 function , but when I drive in a school zone or residential from a stop I can count the shifts and then put down into 3rd gear and keep it at 25-28 mph very easily. I say if you want this function then go ahead and change it. You will not be disappointed. I do notice that it seems to shift better when I turn off the Traction Control. Good luck!

Bah, losing D4 is nothing compared to the fun you will get out of selectshift!

I did this on my car a couple of weeks ago and it's 100% worth it.

And that's a great price on the shifter I paid $295 for mine

I paid $25.00 plus $8.00 to ship it.

.

Metropolitan Ford in Eden Prairie Minnesota (http://www.metropolitanford.com/used_search.html)

This is one special LS!!

edit

Apparently you have to select Lincoln and LS from the drop-down menus.

And you can also just shift yourself from 1-4. The only function you will lose is an automatic 1-4 shift.

Any before, during and after pics of the install? Just ordered a new shifter plate for the V-6, but I may have to re-think this.....sounds great.

I remember someone taking pictures while remove and replace on my shifter was going on , but do remember who had done so. I will ask at the Fabulous Ford car show in two weeks, who has the pictures.

Brian may. Or maybe Tony, if they're still around.

Anybody have any long term info on applying the select shift to the V-6 tranny? I want to do the shifter swap, but I guess I don't understand how just the shifter swap will give you select shift without internal modifications? Not familiar with these automatics, just Tremmec 5-speeds. Thanks.

Easy. The trans is electronically controlled by the shifter. There is no difference in the gearing. For all the trans cares, you could shift with buttons.

Does the 04 V6 opening in the console match the V8? My father-in-law's GEN 1 has a totally different look than my 04 V6.
