mrfuzz April 2nd, 2008, 03:52 PM Hello,
last night and this afternoon, I've noticed my 2000 v8 LS to be running a little slower than norm. Its hard to explain. Not so much hesitant, but pickup is slower.
I honesty think its the gas I got, I have been getting bad gas lately, or atleast I think so. Last fill up was a HESS station, and the normal 93. It feels more like regular 89 octane.
Upon pickup it seems slower, not as peppy.
And lately the car hesitates a little bit from 45 - 60. I changed the fuel filter about 900 miles ago, that cleared it up for awhile. When ever I put STP Fuel cleaner in the tank every once ina great while. The car drives VERY smooth, and full of "pep" also take note, I have 75k Miles on the car.
I checked the engine over for oil leaks near the fuel injectors. And I dont see and splotches. Only today I noticed one small splotch on the passenger
side, at very front, Could of been water though. So I wouldnt automatically assume I need new Coils. but could be possible
Any Idea's upon these matters?
NYC LS8 April 2nd, 2008, 03:58 PM Could be a coil on it's way out.
trilkb April 2nd, 2008, 04:54 PM sounds exactly like my situation. 45-60 was horrible near the end. it started out as something i can deal with with my foot, ease off the throttle a bit and the hesitation goes away.
id make sure it keeps continueing. at the end of mine i was so fed up. i got the 150$ coils on ebay, put em in, all problems went away. i had to replace all 8, it was like each of them was equally starting to :q:q:q:q out, so repalcing just 1 didnt work.
mrfuzz April 2nd, 2008, 05:44 PM Sounds like what is going on with me.
Its not all the time though, Its intermittent. Goes on for a day or two, or maybe even a few hours and clears up for awhile.
This will be some project eh?
trilkb April 2nd, 2008, 08:37 PM if your mechanically inclined, its not hard at all to change coils. depending on mileage you may as well do some plugs too.
sounds like what i started out with. Be at a red light....a lil blip in the rpms once or twice a month. felt like a miss. Then the 45-60 thing started. always in final gear. then it got more noticeable under WOT. rpms would go in little incriments under WOT. not a steady increase. I did what someone reccomended on here and gave it 20 minutes of pure hell. gas was either 0% or 100%. got a misfire on cyl 2, replaced the coil and nothing changed.
I reccomend not beating the holy blue blazes out of your car to get a code. once it becomes more noticeable just go ahead and replace all 8 coils. your either going to replace 1 every couple months and not have a well running car, or 8 at once and know that they are all brand new. i suggest the later with my experience
exceptionaLS April 2nd, 2008, 11:41 PM coils, plugs, valve cover gaskets ....happened to me

Thanks for your input :)
I'm pretty good on the car, I dont horse around with it TOO much but I do get on it every once in a while. And I have been lately. Typically its pretty quick and I have noticed a difference in the RPM bands per say they dont shoot up as quick.
I believe the gaskets have already been replaced on this car though to be honest. I CAN be mistaken though. I bought it from a sales guy who worked for Linc/ Merc dealer here in FL.
Regardless, I'll keep my eyes on it. Once I get frustrated enough I'll make the purchase of the coils and toss them in.
For now, I need new brakes!
mrfuzz April 4th, 2008, 10:58 AM I've been looking on ebay for Coils,
From reading previous posts, I know NOT to buy from global auto correct? Simply because they have the extra flang inside the plug.
I took a stop at PEPboys today, they want $56 PER coil so thats $448 for all 8, Quite steep in my opinion.
Id much rather have Motorcraft coils, over cheap aftermarket. Whats your experiences.
mrfuzz April 5th, 2008, 12:04 PM Any other opinions would be appreciated.
LS8 April 5th, 2008, 12:09 PM The ones I bought from Global Auto are working out great so far, they fit my 00 LS V8 perfectly but if you have a newer one or a V6 they may not work.
steagle April 5th, 2008, 12:56 PM global-automotive sells the correct coils for all "A" VIN coded Lincoln LS's. no flanges. it was something like world-autoparts that sells the flanged versions. mrfuzz, i have been experiencing the same thing as you for a loooooong time. it started off as the 40-60mph hesitation/jerking especially going up hill, as long as a year ago. i had no idea it had anything to do with the coils, i actually thought the tranny was messed up. then i started getting the engine shakes and sluggish acceleration on a straight away, and i knew it was the coils. i will be buying that $150 coil pack, the $38 VCG's from teamford, and probably a whole new set of spark plugs (around $100) to do the job right and never have to worry about it again - i suggest you do the same!
mrfuzz April 6th, 2008, 12:51 PM Steagle,
Thanks! I have similar problems. Awhile ago, the car was misfiring bad. I would step on it, to leave a toll booth, and it would have no power! I put some fuel injector cleaner it, and it went away.
Anyways, When I do the coils, I am also replacing the spark plugs. I'm just going to replace them with what ever plugs are in there. I hope I don't need to change the VCG, Wait and see when I strip the car down.
