turn_on68 January 3rd, 2005, 12:31 PM Happy New Year all. My car alarm went off twice yesterday without any provacation! One time was at three in the afternoon, car is in Driveway. Second time was at 2AM. Cops came out rang my doorbell. I had to just lock car with the key and not set the alarm. Has anyone else had this happen. It is the same as the emergency button on the key fob. No I didn't accidentally set it off. My keys were on the counter in the bathroom at 2:30AM. Also buttons won't work that far away. My car's alarm has been set since 9AM today and it hasn't gone off once? Maybe it was a fluke has anyone else ever had this? It was embarrasing, especially at 2AM.

On the counter in the bathroom. Maybe you have some kids that like to play games. (Since it hasn't went off today.) Is this the only two times?

driller January 3rd, 2005, 10:51 PM Check the hood switch.
1wykdmk8 January 3rd, 2005, 11:09 PM Not sure about this on the Gen 2's (97-98), but on a Gen 1, the ignition switch can give the exact same problem. I replaced mine on my car that I own now to stop that from happening when I first purchased it....at least the alarm stopped going off when I swapped it......could have just been a fluke too.....LOL. :Beer
Mort January 4th, 2005, 09:09 AM How about your battery? I had interior lights staying on until I replaced the battery. It had, after 10 years, gone dead and I had been charging it. And as I now remember, my wife was out one day and the alarm went off two times while she was sitting in the car in a parking lot. I had not thought about relating it to the bad battery. I had even purchased a new relay to turn off the interior lights after x seconds. Replaced the battery after reading that bad batteries in MARK VIII can cause some weird problems. Same is true of new Cadillac SRX. Weird happenings with defective battery. Door locking by themselves etc. Have the battery checked.
Ours is '94.

Yes the battery could be ready to replace. It is at least 3 yrs old. It didn't do it last night, I also had sprayed some lubricant on the battery terminals, hood latch before all this started happening. Maybe that caused it? It always starts fine, terminals are clean.
1989 Mark 7 January 5th, 2005, 05:00 PM I also own a 98 Lincoln Mk. 8 and mine did that a few years ago (2002 to be exact) finally I took my car to a mechanic, and they said that my battery was on the fritz (meaning, like with the electricity sometimes, how it'll go out and come back real fast). Which would set off my alarm. Had to buy a new battery.
Markviiiedrea January 8th, 2005, 09:06 PM my 94 dose it i just got a better alarm

Rewardjr@hotmail.com January 9th, 2005, 08:08 AM I've had the same problem on my 1996 Mark VIII. I also had the brake lights, turn signals and hazzard lights not work at the same time and am now experiencing problems with the panel buttons above the radio. Maybe a bad battery?
